When you do what you love, every day is a vacation. I loved playing music. Was fortunate to make a decent living doing so. Used to chuckle a bit at those who "needed a boat to get away for the week end". My boat was my Fender or Rickenbacker bass, or my DX7 or my Wurlitzer piano or.......... You two seem to enjoy your work and life in general. I always tell any young folk that are listening, tho it also works for those that have the nerve to take the plunge later in life, find something you love to do and get good at it. The rest will take care of itself most of the time. But of course, that might mean not having a "Cadillac". But I can assure you, there are lots of people driving a Cadillac that aren't happy. And in the end, would you rather be happy, or drive a Cadillac? Often times tho, doing what you love you will excel at it and you might even eventually drive whatever you want to. But unless you are born wealthy which most of us aren't, you don't get everything all at once. You two are good examples of that. I have seen you grow immensely since I've been watching you for the last few years. I enjoy your channel. By the way, I wrote this before I realized you would meet someone with a boat so a quick edit. I meant no disrespect to those that love boating, it was just a way to make my point. For that matter I like boats too, just never needed one to get away in. But for those that love boating, I'm for you on that as well! I'm for everyone finding happiness in their lives, whatever that involves. We should be able to swing our bats any way we want to as long as we don't hit someone with it lol!
There's plenty of Asian invasives species here in Virginia. I can imagine what we have here, ya'll have in WV too. There's the Tree of Heaven ( It's anything but ), Winged Eunonymous bushes, Of course Kudzu vines, Japanese Stiltgrass, Japanese Barberry, Multiflora Rose ( thornbushes), Japanese Honeysuckle, Mock Strawberry, Mother-of-Thousands among others. While some are beneficial and even have some medicinal properties, most block the sun in getting the native seeds to sprout. Most of these invasives are ground coverers and shade makers and take over the native forests and plant food for the wild animals. Beutiful property though. I love it.
If you have bears roaming the property you need to find out what you can do if he/she gets too interested in you. If legal, you might want to consider carrying a .44cal handgun or some M-80's or other noisy flash-bangs to scare them away. If hunting them is legal, a bear skin rug would be nice in front of a fireplace. Just a suggestion for you to consider - - Richard. (love all your vids especially W,VA. Beautiful area, you got lucky finding it)
I lost my wife of 45 years, 3.5 years ago. We dated 2 years in high school. We were inseparable. 3 beautiful daughters, 3 awesome son in laws and 7 wonderful grandkids. I welded for 20 years and built custom homes for 25 + years. She was a stay home mom and then a property manager for 26 years. Before she past away we were planning on purchasing around 40 acres in the county. She wasn’t real keen on it as she would always talk about being away from doctors and hospitals. As time went by she got sick and took her life. I was devastated. I recently sold our beautiful home and bought 90 acres and am planning on building a 60’x100’ Barndominum. As I work on the property I often think and tell my girls that mom and l were supposed to do this together. Well, God had a different plan. Not sure what it is but I’m having a had time getting excited about building anything. That said, I enjoy watching all your videos and seeing the closeness of your family. Keep doing what y’all do. God has blessed y’all and I hope He continues. Y’all are too cool!!!🥰
I've had good success using the "Wagner Paint n' Roll Plus 9 in. Manual Roller" from Home Depot for putting down stain on decks very quickly. For $18 it might be worth a try with your white pine boards. Hope this helps. Keep up the great work.
Good evening all! Spent the morning on a soccer field watching our granddaughter play their first two games of a tournament over a little closer to Raleigh. Good outcomes; good times. Hot though. Boy you do have some visibility down those rows of pines! Pick your spot right and have a quarter mile split among left, right, and straightaway. Were they regularly planted to the point that other angles open up too? Nice!
You talked about being able to explore your forty acres for weeks and still not see everything. Well Mike, I have seventy acres that I have owned for FIFTEEN YEARS and still have not seen everything there is to see on my property!!! And it is not because I am not interested, but I am usually SO BUSY that I just don't get the time. It also does not help that at sixty six years of age and bad knees, it makes the walking more difficult. But I love finding new things on the farm! And speaking of walking, just HOW did Melissa keep up with you on the tractor at the 20:20 mark?!!!
Ferns at WV property appear to grow taller than the Japanese grass... will that help prevent it from spreading? What an amazing property you've acquired... good thing, too... you might just run out of new things to do at PA homestead!
Your not alone Melissa, my wife Evelyn does the crocheting in the car as we travel too. But when she drives I build model cars and airplanes 🤣🤣🤣 not really; I sleep. She makes baby blankets, pot holders, wash clothes, placemats, etc.
Just an extra tip. You can spray disinfect cleaner like Clorox bleach spray or have it in a gallon pump spray. Spray it underneath mower decks, tires, loader bucks and etc. I learn this practice from my landscaping class in college. Landscaping companies can transfering seeds and plant disease by not cleaning there tools from one lawn to the other. But good job on washing out the deck and tractor. It's an extra step that lots of us don't take.
Now only if we can get folks to power wash their small boats & canoes before going into a new lake to stop invasive vegetation from spreading! My guess while looking at the open rows, that they were put in there originally for either logging or fire trucks to be able to have access if there were ever a forest fire, so it would be a good idea to keep them clear through out your land. They will also make a nice dirt bike, mountain bike and 4 wheeler paths as well as walking paths. Any issues with Deer tics in that area...if so make sure you check yourself each time you go on the property & wear white socks and tuck your pant ends into the socks. Also use tic repellent...
"We're not getting a boat", FAMOUS LAST WORDS!!! LOL At the 23:40 mark where Melissa asked an excellent question regarding loading the BX on the trailer, and Mike mentioned using the emergency brakes to prevent the truck from rolling due to the LIFT of the truck, it is BEST to CHOCK both the FRONT WHEELS OF THE TRUCK and the TRAILER to prevent a "run away"! When the rear end of the vehicle is lifted, the emergency brakes are not nearly as secure since it is the REAR wheels that are locked. Then you only have the front tires of which there are no emergency brakes. Good question Melissa!!!
Mike the former farm situation is due partly because for more than 200 years farmers did not rotate crops when they used up the nutrients in the soil the planted trees and moved the farm did that all the way into the 40s our grandparents and further back gave nothing back to the soil with the exception of hot horse manure which burns plants up anyway have a degree in horticulture as well as taught for 6 months till teacher recovered from a heart attack no part of conservation was started before the 1910s so a lot was lost
Every time you mention something like the boat Mike is very quick to say no but just look at everything that he has bought for himself. You must be a great woman
Happy Saturday Levi....watching your video next on the WV property. Beautiful property. Stay healthy, stay safe Morgan family. Thanks for another great video. Steve in Calgary
Install some jacks on the back corners of the trailer to put down when loading & unloading will stop the trailer from lifting the back end of the truck up. Setting the parking/emergency brake isn't going to stop the truck from taking off, the parking/emergency brake is only on the back wheels, so you lift up the back end and away you go....if your truck or SUV is 4WD, engage the 4WD, that'll lock the front and rear axles together mechanically which will help keep the vehicle from rolling, but some wheel chocks, and jacks on the back corners of the trailer are going to be what's needed. My car trailer is 18' long, plenty long enough for what I need to do, but it makes the back end of my Explorer a bit light when loading and unloading. I have a couple wood blocks I cut to sit under the back corners of the trailer, that seems to help a lot. Trailer isn't paid off yet, so I am not doing any modifications to it until its paid for, but the plan is some swing away jacks at each corner eventually, as well as adding a winch. Usually when I need a car trailer, the vehicle I'm hauling is dead, so a winch is a must have. They put the spare tire carrier in a horrible place so it'll have to be relocated off the trailer tongue, so I can install a tool box up there. I was after a 16' trailer but by the time I got to the dealer they'd already sold it....so they had the 18' in stock so I snatched it. Probably a good thing as its long enough to have the tractor, and all my attachments/implements, and a brush hog if I ever need to haul everything at once.
First video I have watched of your WV property , as I am new to your channel. Very nice area.. looking forward to following your progress ! And I bought the same foam cannon and soap this spring..love it and no longer wash our vehicles at the automated car wash 👍👍😊😊
Mike n Melissa I was thinking before you left home that you need a mini cabin at WV property then you mentioned in video Sad that Japanese Grass is already there as well We have honeysuckle n Bradford pears as invasive plants here in Mo I’ve been watching Levi and Kate’s channel and also Tyler and Hannah’s channel both are informative enjoy watching all of you Yes also watch Melissa’s channel as well Enjoy Eva’s input and Hunter as well I’ve been watching 4yrs now and look forward to next video Me being in wheelchair have lots of time have lots in common with what you do have cut wood for years until 4yrs ago So keep them coming ty
You could make a billion dollars on a side hustle there. Unless you flooded and overloaded the market. I've seen them in pots for 6 or 8 bucks, and you have a zillion or two of them. So enjoy your new wealth.... Oh! yeah, it's all those Christmas ferns. I'm sure they have another name. You could maybe transplant and sell maybe one or two hundred thousand whenever you go down there, kinda keep the market wanting more! Yeah, I know, I'm unbelievable!! That's what all my friends say, too, all the time! Hmmmm...Anyway;, enjoy your good fortune!
I'm from preston county originally and I'm very familiar with the Terra Alta area. Nice peaceful are. Enjoy. I still live in west virginia just a little farther east
It is beautiful there in WV. Hows your Mum liking the new Shed? Maybe next time you leave the BX in the woods, Melissa will have it loaded and driving down to WV to see how long you search for it! God Bless
So if it's a nice clearing and you prefer white pine to red pine, I think you found your spot for the cabin/house?? You can cut them down and take them back for saw logs and build something out of them. Yes/No ?
Bad things can happen when you load a trailer on almost any incline. I watched a guy load a D17 Allis on his home made tilt bed trailer once. The truck and trailer were almost level(not quite) and he didn't have the E brake on. That doesn't really help anyway, if you lift up on the back end of the truck much, as the wheels can slide. Anyway, when the trailer tilted back level, it came down fairly quick, hit the flat and sheared the park pin off in the truck. The truck started to roll, and by the time he got to the door, it was rolling down a waterway , into the corn field. Nothing was torn up except the park pin on the truck, and a couple stalks of corn, but it could have been way worse, if the slope had been any steeper. Wheel chokes, and or someone standing on the brakes is much safer.
Melissa, here's a little wisdom my father passed on to me many years ago. The definition of boat is: A large hole in the water that you throw money into.
Normally a boat is a lost cause as far as money goes. But I bought a 14 foot fishing boat, brand new, almost 30 years ago....it’s kept in a barn, used every year, and is still in great condition. Funny thing is, with the pandemic, it is now worth more than what I paid for it? Go figure
That's very true, Derek Smith !! I was the Manager of one of the largest Marinas in San Diego and I can confirm that, totally. Apart from Dock fees, there is top and bottom cleaning, licensing, general maintenance and other fees !! Boats are NOT cheap !!
Most people with boats are rich and don't worry about money. I live by Kentucky lake and you can't believe the 50ft house boats, docked all winter and used briefly in the summer, owned by northern rich doctors, lawyers etc.
Had to laugh when you referred to your truck as the grocery getter. My first car whe I got my license was a 78 Ford Fairmount station wagon. Now thet was truly a grocery getter! Lol I hated that car!
Tilt bed trailers work a lot better for transporting equipment it won’t lift the back end of your truck plus they work well for transporting mini excavator’s to
Hi Folks! Forty six years ago I lost my mom and three years ago we lost our youngest son on August 27! Seeing the two of you enjoying your new property was very pleasing to me. It took my mind off of my sorrows. My sons two girls are coming to spend the day with us. We will visit his grave and my parents as well. So joyful to see your progress on your camp. Can’t wait to see the cabin you build on site. Anxiously waiting to see your new sawmill. I shared with you that I use to own an LT40HD. You will really appreciate the new sawmill. Thanks for your channel. I truly look forward to watching each episode. God bless you and your family.
Lovely property,I have only 3.5 a.,but I have permission to hike, bike 4wheeler,100 of private acres, surrounding my house and I'm only 1 mile from Sebago lake in MAINE,I love the outdoors being from the COUNTY,northern Maine,VB...enjoy OUTDOOR WITH THE MORGANS
I am 2 hours north of you and we have the stilt grass too. Not too bad on my property, and it got mowed again today...so I hope it doesn't spread further.
My concern with my bucket over the front of the trailer is a hard stop so i like to keep my bucket down low inside the trailer. I am a worry wort, but even after chain down with the backhoe and bucket its 2000# if it goes it will slice through the aluminum ford like butter and that is why i drive a Ram 3500. My 1025R is the weight of a small car so it would crush the aluminum truck if it came forward.
I wondered about the stilt grass contaminating W V too. Think of all the new invasive species we have in our country from international trading. I noticed that you need to explain some of the things you do, because of us viewers. Thanks for letting me play along. I like the new property, it's so flat. Red tool house homestead lives in W V his area has steep hills
You can add two stands at the back of your trailer to help keep it from lifting up your tongue of the trailer and rear of truck. I put them on mine 16' trailer for that reason. Just a suggestion. Love the videos as always. Happy the two of you are able to travel and enjoy the new property.
Mike, like your WV videos. They bridge a gap between your latest videos in PA compared to your early video and toolset you had to work with back then. Now depending where you are at you give the channel videos more in the realm of making trees and building paths like your early videos, to using skid loader and excavators on a larger scale for those users who have that type of equipment. I am using smaller equipment and small trailers and chain saws. I watch all your videos, like the variety much better now.
Just an Idea- 50 years ago my dad took us on a fishing trip with a camping club. The club had about 20 trailers. The camp was on a circle and the club rented the area for a weekend. Starting from the left the trailers were placed one at a time and vehicle removed. Next trailer was parked in front of the last parked trailer. A drive was maintained to the center of the circle and camp fire was in the center. Awnings were inward and a tarp was placed between the campers. Being early fall it was cool out. the awning and tarps provided wind protection. A grill/stove was in the center and tables were set up for everyone to eat off of. We caught trout on the first day of trout season. Just a great time.
Mike I’ll bet those red pines are all planted in abandoned fields. It is my understanding the government paid to plant red pines in the late forties early fifties. We had about 4000 of them on our property after we removed them all we reclaimed the fields here which was once part of a 600 acre sheep farm.
Just watched the live show on the 28th. Just an opinion. I looked up the Google stats for your site. It says that you make 247, 000 a year from the site at about 2100 per vid. I noticed folks were actually donating on the Live feed. Not envious by no means, but is it hard pressed to accept donations knowing what you make off of the site? I mean I couldn't do it. Kinda like living in a high rise and taking 10 dollar donations from 70 year old retired folks. Don't dislike you all but with all the toys that you have buildings and almost 6 dollars a gallon for diesel didn't put a dent in your budget. My guess is Mike you are a real hustler bud. Could sell sand from one beach to another if you knew you could make a profit off of it. Do you actually own all this stuff? Just curious. The average cost of your weekend drives to WV, and the fuel charges would bankrupt most folks. Just curious. What gives?

Goats love to eat stilt grasses. Might be worth buying a few breading pair to have them help maintain some of the growth.

With the layout of those pines, you should build a tree house
Nice property - surprised by how little rock there is on it. I have over 70 acres in Hampshire county (WV) welcome to the state.
Good afternoon Hunter 👋👋😸😺 and family and friends 😸😺
It'd be cool to cut like 8-10 of those Red Pines maybe eight feet up and make a stilt house of them. Like a big tree house for adults. Lol.
Lost in the forest……….. beautiful!
That’s a beautiful place you have there. God Bless you and your family
Mike on the quit farming to planting the red pines???? They turned it into a tree farm!! Lotta standing cash right there!

At the 23:40 mark where Melissa asked an excellent question regarding loading the BX on the trailer, and Mike mentioned using the emergency brakes to prevent the truck from rolling due to the LIFT of the truck, it is BEST to CHOCK both the FRONT WHEELS OF THE TRUCK and the TRAILER to prevent a "run away"!
When the rear end of the vehicle is lifted, the emergency brakes are not nearly as secure since it is the REAR wheels that are locked. Then you only have the front tires of which there are no emergency brakes.

Put jack stands under the back corners of the trailer so it will not drop down but a couple of inches as you back off the trailer.

Cows goats or sheep may eat that grass of course its only gonna spread in thear manure but one or the other may keep it under control good luck mike
Melissa, If you don’t get a pool 🏊♀️ then you should get a boat 🚤. LOL
Mike you took care not to carry any seeds from PA to WV, but what are some of the species you don't want to carry from WV back to PA?
Google historic aerials and you'll see ur property from aerial photos taken over the years.
Love ur channel.
Are you like me when you brush hog a trail, all the stuff on the edges fall into the open area.
Yea sometimes lol
I havent heard of it here in vermont. Knock on wood, but like you said probably a matter of time 😔
I think u guys got the only flat property in wv lol
Melissa, here's a little wisdom my father passed on to me many years ago. The definition of boat is: A large hole in the water that you throw money into.
BOAT is actually an acronym for “Break Out Another Thousand”…
@@jramsdenbb So my dad was right again (as usual). Smartest man I know. 🤣🤣🤣
Mike, the happiest day in a man's life is when he gets a new boat. The second happiest day in a man's life is the day he sells the boat!
Looking good and it is not too far to travel, if you spend a lot of time driving it gets a bit tiresome.
Had to laugh when you referred to your truck as the grocery getter. My first car whe I got my license was a 78 Ford Fairmount station wagon. Now thet was truly a grocery getter! Lol I hated that car!
Hi Mike Richard here are guys going to fence around your property and how are you guys and is my mate hunter going
Tilt bed trailers work a lot better for transporting equipment it won’t lift the back end of your truck plus they work well for transporting mini excavator’s to
Why not use a boomless sprayer and roundup all the stilt grass?
Hey Mike, share with Melissa the U-Haul safe trailering video on TH-cam. Great demonstration on weight placement.
Are the trees planted in rows?
Lovely property,I have only 3.5 a.,but I have permission to hike, bike 4wheeler,100 of private acres, surrounding my house and I'm only 1 mile from Sebago lake in MAINE,I love the outdoors being from the COUNTY,northern Maine,VB...enjoy OUTDOOR WITH THE MORGANS
I am one of 1000, turbi nozzle is arriving Monday.
Check out speed binders for you tractor tie downs
⚠Question??? What type of plant, fern, tree is that @12:16 ? It's very unique looking. 👍
we have stilt grass every were in west Va as well. every parcel we have has it for the most part. same her in Va.
Great video!
Round Up will kill Stilt Grass.
Man...I hope your carrying while there. Stay safe
It's amazing, those pine are arrow straight - thousands of them.

We have that crap grass even in Fairbanks alaska!
Mike I live in harpers ferry wv and we have a problem with the Japanese stiltgrass also.
Mike what horse power is your tractor ..??? It does lots of work...your back ground in equipment operator is Buenos !!!
Hey buddy I like your channel I just start watching it a couple hours ago and very interested and very relaxing
Would you ever want to grow some chestnut trees? I could hook you up with seeds
What gives?
