There is something to be learned from going second. When going second, you try to do things to not fall behind even further. But, by doing such things as coining out big tempo plays, or making high risk plays, you still lose. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you will still lose. This understanding extends to all things.
But Kripp, flip a coin, it's balanced.

Kripp, as a Warlock, went second 7 times consecutively in an Arena run. He went 4-3. But in his next run as Warlock he went first and won the opponent Warlock. You're welcome.

I'd like to argue that kripp losing more when going second is mainly because of his playstyle. While it is true that going first statistically increase your chance of winning, not utilizing the coin effectively (like using coin on t6) does not help to control the board early. If one wants to seize early board contron going second, one should draft more 2 cost cards and play 2 drop on t1 and t2 / or 4 drop on t3 and t4. This gives player going second early tempo advantage, which is enough to increase the chance of winning.

What if: First player gets to go first AND gets the coin. Second player starts with 2 mana and goes up normally from there. That way, 2nd player has an 8 turn mana advantage (never has a 1 mana turn), 1st player gets to go first and has a 1 mana ramp/spell. Thoughts?
A total of 6 legendaries were played. 1 by Kripp and 5 by his opponents.

I'm pretty sure he had at least one more direct damage source in hand. And even if he didn't have one besides the Bane of Doom, then he had Jeweled Scarab to look for Drain Life, Wolfrider or Argent Horserider.

I know this has nothing to do with the video but I got my first 12 wins in arena today! It was 12 - 0 as well!
Suggestion : Give the Second play 3 coins. on turn 1, 4, and 7. 3 chances to catch up on tempo. If Blizzard is willing to experiment, they might give that a try for 1 month or 2 and see if things get more balanced.

GO Second and GO First should be a Pattern on arena. For example: If you went Second. then you will go first and play against "a Second player match".
That should solve The problem.

I like what other card games do, shadoverse just makes you draw 2 cards no coin needed. My favorite which is the Elder Scrolls card game gives you a coin but with 3 uses. I think that's something Hearthstone could benefit from.
About 2 months ago, I started tracking when going first or second (the month before that, I always had the feeling that I was going second far more often than going first).
2 months and approximately 600 games later, I tracked that 84% of the games I play (no matter which mode), I go second ... well, I guess that somebody has to go second. ;/
Kripp showed his Arena statistics a day ago and guess what he was going 6 times more first than second, so this is fair, it might be even again.

3 Bane of Doom and 1 DOOM? He deserved to win
this one is a legitimate complaint, the difference in chances of winning between going second is too wide. Though i do feel like the idea of having to draw and play resource is an antiquated idea, i also feel like it was what organically made magic more balanced for whether you are going first or second.
I had some food and it tasted pretty bland, but Kripp's salt made it a lot better.
What if the player that goes Second has 2 Mulligans? Or if he can mulligan 1 card after the first mulligan

They should really add a feature to hearthstone arena where if you go first your first game you would be forced to go second for your next game and then you go first for your third game.
they could simply fix this problem by just make sure you will be the first player IF YOU HAVE PLAYED TWO GAMES AS SECOND PLAYER. so one in three game you will have a fighting back chance

To me fair in the last game if Kripp didn't draw the shattered sun cleric he would be in a much worse position. Opponent could have cleared the minion on board and saved a ton of damage. At least bought himself another turn or two and then who knows

My Always Salty Arena
The spells are real.... played a shaman at 1-1 and he had lava burst, lightning storm, 2 stormcrack, 2 lightning bolt, and a hex. And that was only in the first 15-20 cards.
If that last bane of doom would have spawned illidan or fearsome doomguard that would have been the best troll from the rng EVER
I never go first, for some reason i find myself second turn 10 without any minions, hopefully blizzard will fix.

The chances of going second(Or first for that matter) twelve times in a single arena run is 0.02%. So it'd be really hard to have all coin flips land on second/first. Plus, that's not taking into account going second/first and losing the game. Either way, it's fairly likely that you won't ever have a game like that, so that's fun.

Kripp idk if the going second stats are valid because I did a warlock arena run last night and ended 8-3. I started off 7-0 going second 6 of those 7 games, and then my last 4 games i went first 3-4 times and lost all 3 games I went first in. maybe I got lucky but I have been winning a large number of times going second as well as going first.
PandaPwnage you are not guaranteed to win if you go first but you are more likely to. kripp plays a lot and his stats clearly show that
Klaidas B-vas I never said I was guaranteed to win going first. I was just kind of saying that I think his stats could be a little off because I have played quite a bit of arena recently and i don't see that coin toss problem. idk if it's just me but I don't have an issue going first or second.

Austen Kruse The only thing I ask is Blizzard to come out with official stats of this if they haven't already. If this is such a big problem I feel Blizzard would've already addressed it and made attempts to fix it. Standard arena just kind of removed a lot of broken cards to maoe it more fair for everyone. Blizzard hasn't made an attempt to really fix this issue and i feel there is a reason why.
We are only hearing views from Kripp and some otherbig Hearthstone players, but if it was such a huge issue like they are saying I feel Blizzard would have already known and made attempts to fix it. That is my opinion on the situation.
at 11:57 missed lethal. 18 damage on board. felfire potion 5 damage for 6 mana and hellfire 3 damage for 4 mana = 8

a week ago i drafted 7 legendaries in arena , i actually choose them, didnt get them from any card, and i got more legendaries from discover cards

I usually go like 8 out of 11 games second so I got used to.
man going second shouldn't be as bad as it is, but it genuinely feels lime going second is losing a vital coin flip... it's so depressing because it seems like 70% of the time I and I'm sure many other people feel like we lose what should be a 50-50 coin flip... going second 5 times in a row in arena is just straight up unfair, I think in arena it should be regulated

Siebje How about an extra mana crystal. Coin was balanced at first, but now the turn 5 game over blizzard has created, coin isn't enough.
He goes 7 games in a row without getting 1st, and the game after that run finishes, he gets 1st. Seems about right.
So it seems pretty unlucky to go 2nd 7 times in a row but it's actually just 1/128, right? In Kripp's My Gadgetzan Arena Stats video, released Jan 8th 2017, Kripp had played 57 runs since release of MSoG, which was December 1st 2016. Let's cut out say the 7 runs to give us an even 50 in one month. So 50 runs a month, with an average winrate of 7.86 wins per run. (All stats from Blizz website that he shared on that video)
So every 3 months Kripp does 150 runs. So we can expect Kripp to go second EVERY game of an arena run once every 3 months!!!
Kripp has been playing Hearth since Beta, but I doubt he played as much as he does now, so let's just look at the past 1.5 years, that's 18 months. This should have happened to Kripp SIX TIMES in the past year and a half alone, but I don't recall it ever happening.

Not that hard to put a safety hard cap like after 3 games of pure 1st/2nd switch it up and re-randomize the next game. Only issue to account would be DC's.

You can fix it by changing the matchmaking so you can't go second multiple games in a row i guess, but i'm no expert.

Why don't they just make it less rng with going first by doing a 50/50 flip on your first game and then alternate after that? So first game you roll that you got first next game you'll go 2nd, then first again and so on..
