Lovely memories, sitting cross legged in front of the TV after school at half past 4 in excited anticipation of children' hour programs - Mom was in the kitchen getting food ready and you knew that she would call out to sit down for Tea as you as soon as the programs started - Sometime there was a problem at the TV station and they played this over and over again till it was fixed :-) Happy Days...

"This is ATV Network, which provides your Monday to Friday programmes on channel 8, broadcasting on the Lichfield transmitter of the Independent Television Authority"
We had a choice of TWW, midlands, or Granada Television, with midlands my brother put a small booter on the Aerial , listening to Programs was improved.....Happy days long gone
I used to sit glued to the telly at 4.45 waiting for Jean More tons dulcit tones...and the end animation sadly missing from this video. The music used was not the commercially available version.
I am sometimes amazed by the number of soundalike versions of this opening music. None but the one i have which is poorer quality because it was recorded from the true original is correct but hey does it matter? Well maybe.
Same with me as well. Pat Astley (no relation of Rick), Jill Bechley, Mike Prince, Jean Morton, Shaw Taylor as well. Some of them announcers now sadly no longer with us.
@kifbowdensmith1 If my memory serves me correctly (I interned at Foley street in the summer of 1960) ATV London would end the startup with the 'elongated' ATV animation; it was a live telecine cue attempting to sync the animation with the music. Not sure whether this was also the case in the Midlands.
But where’s the 'opening eye' sequence where A T V opened down the screen with Associated TeleVision Ltd wording below, it was a splendid sequence in the late 1950's the timing of the 'opening eye' was emphasised by Coates ' Dada Dada Dada' and the whole was very professionally done ... then Pat Ashley (usually) gave the introduction ....
Yeah, deffo that. The whole thing went: This is Pat Astley on behalf of ATV which provides your Monday to Friday programmes on Channel 8, available on the Midlands transmitter of the Independent Television Authority.
Been looking for this for years. I never knew that this was written by Eric Coates of the Dambuster's March fame. For some reason this ident used to freak me out when I was about 4 years old left in the house alone. (That kinda thing was normal in those days). I think it's probably because the music was so loud. I noted that it is a recreation, but I'm sure the actual music was slightly different. I'm sure I recall a different ident screen too. In Nottingham this wasn't the screen I recalled.
If it had not have been for the late & great Desmond Carrington (of Emergency-Ward 10 fame) playing this on his Sunday lunchtime programme on the Beeb's Radio 2 some 25 years ago I wouldn't have known either. The Dambusters March was in fact the flip side of the 1955 Nixa 78 record this first came out on (N 15003). I had the first official info on this track when I first came across a double CD set called the Great British Experience, of which we had a copy all of 25 years ago.
Good quality audio, it's a pity that at 2mins 20 you couldn't manage to get in the original ATV logo (they used to1950s one until colour), and had to replace it with a re-run of the original music. Well done anyway :-)
I've tried to post an interesting comment four times on here so this will have to be a test transmission! When it comes to posting the message 'Error try again' comes up in red text despite there being plenty of characters left in the message space and after re[peated attempts pressing the Post icon. Anyone else had difficulties? I'm getting too demoralised by this to tell the story all over again as the text has been lost each time.

Used to put television on early to warm up as must have had a dodgy valve and took time to get a full screen picture. Happy memories

This is great! Brings back some memories!

That is how I remember the ATV start-ups.

This is called "Sound And Vision" The ATV March
Just as I remember it.
Thank you!
I certainly remember the music although, being like
madmax200769 from Nottingham, I don't remember this test card either.

No - they just make do with the constant advert breaks, each lasting about 6 minutes.

Very good but could you post a start up between 1970 and the end of atv
