    As a luthier I can say this is bad advice. Firstly, you should never put the bridge up when the sound post is missing. It warps the top and gives a false reading on string height. Secondly, you need to put all 4 strings on with full tension to split the cello legs when making the final bridge height adjustment. You can't just lay the strings lightly like you can on a violin. Thirdly, invest in a proper knife. The boxcutter gets blunt extremely easily making it a safety hazard when cutting into quality maple. Fourthly, There is no such thing as a correct setup for a student cello. All cello should be set up the same way regardless of quality.

      @@CC-hv9ei With an Electric Bowed instrument no need to worry about that sound post cause you plug in and play, the bridge sits on that contact mic.

      @@CC-hv9ei Your teacher has to change that to where you have easier action, Electric Cellos solve that problem with their flatter body.

    My Cello is a 5 String Acoustic-Electric in Blue made by Yinfente which really works. All I need to do is attach that sound post. I know that the bridge goes on the Piezo Pickup (aka Contact Mic) and it's marked to show you how it goes, the Yinfente logo points towards the tailpiece.

    I enjoyed most of your video but about half way through it I didn't understand what you said about the measurement of strings from finger board....How far should the strings be from the finger board....?

      The 5 String Cello has a High E String which is an Octave below the same String on the Violin. It's ideal for playing Violin pieces on the Cello.

    Bridge adjustment: yes, Sound post adjustment: yes, reaming out the pegs and filing the nut when new: the sign of a bad cello. Those things will need adjusting down the line, but needing to do this when new is worrying.

    Which higher of the strings should I use to make a good string action? And, where can I take that measure (at the bottom of the fingerboard)?

    Please you could someone give me a hint on how to take off the ebony scale glued from Cello arm. Luthiery'm learning by myself, because I live far from the large urban centers of my country. I intend to form a first musical group with stringed instruments in my municipality. I am very grateful.

    No nonsense responses, please. You wouldn't accept them from any customer. The synthetic 'cello' sound is ugly on *any* sound system, including my excellent Hi-Fi sound card with my ditto Hi-Fi speakers, thank you very much. Besides, the problem is not that you have no professional recording studio, but that you made a terrible choice regarding the 'cello music' that accompanies your otherwise very well made video. Particularly because Bach's cello suites are among the best loved cello pieces!

    Sound varies dependent on people's sound systems. On home computers this is rarely very good. Plus, we set up cellos, we don't have a professional recording studio - the music is an accompaniment, not the object of the video.

    How can you chose such ugly synthetic cello sounds to accompany your video? It totally undermines your goal of convincing us that you are after the best natural sound possible for the cello's you sell.

  • @OmegaMusicUK
    @OmegaMusicUK  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whatever the music is like isn't the point of the video. It isn't a music video.

    • @kjetilschjanderluhr581
      @kjetilschjanderluhr581 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh, but it is! 1. You choose to have music playing in the background. 2. The video is about a quality setup of the instrument featured in said music. 3. That thing we hear should be a cello. It isn't. 4. People start to wonder about your commitment to quality. 5. The devil is in the details, as they say. 6. Next time, even an iPhone recording would do.
