I find this Song and Scene Very Emotional…From the Producers Initial Dismissal of this Effort to being Totally Entranced Witnessing a Very Special and Magical Moment…A Scene that Literally makes Me Cry Every time I watch….A Truly Wonderful Film….
Such a brilliant scene. I’ve watched this scene at least 20 times after I originally saw the film. For anyone who hasn’t seen “Once”, do yourself a favor and give it a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Love the moment at 1:40 or so...when the sound technician, who has been bored to tears up to that point, realizes that this band is actually great! And he can no longer coast at the mixing board, but should start actually doing some work! Fun moment.
The best part is at the end when the sound technician asks Glen if he wrote the song. Glen replies with an emphatic but simple "Yeah." That one word speaks volumes.
Absolute favorite memory of this song: June 2008, The Swell Season (Glen & Mar's band, offshoot of The Frames) are out on their U.S. tour, and my wife and I somehow manage to get onboard selling merch for them in Madison, WI. We show up early to be shown around where we'll be working, and then the person says, "They're doing a sound check, wanna go in?" Obviously the answer was yes. 😊 Empty hall except for the tech crew, and this is the song they just started running through. Probably played it 100,000 times by that point, and it still sounded just as incredible as in the movie. (And yes, Glen and Marketa were just as nice and personable as they appeared in the film, amazing people.)

I love how the producer doesnt really care at first, but then when he hears them killing it, he gets really into it. The look on his face is priceless

I saw the tour in Atlanta. One of my best times. First song he did, alone, in front of the mic, unplugged, to a full house. “Grand.”
