(2024) Great Harbour N37 Liveaboard Trawler Yacht - Hull #25

  • I have been fortunate to be able to review several Great Harbour trawlers since starting my TH-cam channel, but this was the first time I was able to get onboard their N37 model. This particular example is their latest new build to touch water, and is currently under final commissioning. Very few boats around 38ft in the length can pull of twin diesel, generator, bow thruster, flybridge, 4 berths in 2 cabins plus saloon, household appliances in the galley, walk in engine room, and 1800 mile range!! This boat is simply perfect for the Great Loop, or for island hoping your way around the Caribbean.
    Great Harbour Trawlers are all semi-custom, meaning you can work with them to change minor design features, fabrics, materials, colors, and specifications. This is hull number 25 and I doubt there are 2 Great Harbour N37's the same!
    You can also view more details regarding the construction and layout of the boat on the manufacturers site at www.greatharbou....
    I hope you enjoy this video!

    I seriously cannot believe that all this is on a 37 foot boat. That is mind blowing to me. That galley is fantastic. A lovely simple boat.

      Not many times could I picture myself living in a boat under 40ft, but I could easily do it on this one! 😎

    For a 37' boat, that engine room is awesome. No need for engine room yoga to do maintenance; which means that regular maintenance will more likely get done. This is a fantastic boat for the Great Loop. I also love that GH puts full size refrigerators on their boats. GH is really moving up my list of liveaboard trawlers.

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      I had back surgery last year and I'm not as flexible as I once was. The fact I could get access to everything mechanical without issue really highlighted how well thought out this design is. I'd love to do the loop in something like this if I had the time and money.

      I agree 100%. I will go one further and also say I love the team at GH. They are so down to earth, extremely knowledgeable, and very little is set in stone. They go out their way to help accommodate people whenever they can. Some of the boat manufacturers and brokers I've been around have a my way or the highway mentality, but not GH 😉

    This was the first time I have watched one of these videos and was totally amazed with the vessel, looks relatively small as you approach it but the interior looks so very big, having not one but the two cabins and so much storage areas and the kitchen area looks more like a small apartment kitchen and not a galley on a boat, great set up and even greater with not only the washer/dryer combo, or I think you said it was, but to also have a dishwasher in there too, outstanding and thanks for giving us the walkthrough

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's very few boats I can think of that's such a great liveaboard under 40ft. If you were to tackle the Great Loop, it typically takes 1 year to complete. I'd have no issues spending a year onboard this one with a different change of scenery every morning 🤠

    It would make a great live aboard for island hopping. I would outfit the fly bridge with a hard top and have it to where you enclose it for bad weather. Plus you you would have to have a grill on the aft deck for grilling up your catch.

Such a comfortable and purpose built trawler for long distance trips. I can’t wait to get back onboard. Thanks for sharing this updated modern beauty. The N37 looks incredible. I'm 6ft 2 and had plenty of room, but I feel your pain in not being able to say that for all boats. As to range, the default configuration is for 1500 miles at 7 knots. You can do a few tweaks like less water and more fuel onboard if you prefer.

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I love this one too Erik. Only thing is, the Yanmar fuel economy and range is a big part of this yachts appeal. Those Cummins I'm sure would drink more than the Yanmars, and with the hill design, you probably won't get much more speed.

    • @erikjohnson1482
      @erikjohnson1482 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GarnockReviews could always get the 5.9 de tuned. I have a 8.3L 250 hp 6c Cummins in my 50’ commercial schooner and I’m barely using 3.5gph doing 8.5kts@2100 rpm. All comes down to gear ratios and prop pitch, I think on the low end the 6b is offered at 210hp, then again I’d opt for a single screw, not as easy to maneuver, but then again there are so many thruster options on the market now. My biggest beef with marine engines is that if you read the data tags, they are generally listed as recreational engines, and not rated for constant duty ie long distance passage making. I prefer engines with an industrial heritage meant for the long haul. Throw in a keel cooler and a dry stack exhaust and you will never again have to mess with a heat exchanger or raw water pump/impeller.
      At least they aren’t Volvos!!!!

    • @GarnockReviews
      @GarnockReviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. Price is hard to say, as no 2 examples are the same. It all boils down to your specification and time of ordering etc. Very rough figures, you are looking somewhere in the low $600's for an entry level spec, to the mid $700s for a top of the line example. Great Harbour would be your best option to work with for more accurate pricing.
      As to solar, plenty of room on this one to mount solar panels to keep your ancillaries onboard topped up without needing to run the engines or generators. Again, Great Harbour can assist with this install and planning.

      Great Harbours are, literally, "go anywhere" boats. They are based on a Pacific workboat hull design - you know, the "Deadliest Catch" boats that go into the Bering sea in atrocious conditions. I have over 20,000 cruising miles on these boats in all kinds of offshore conditions. Safe and stable without external stabilizers. Contact Captain Joe Senn at Great Harbour Trawlers (he actually lives aboard his own N37!) for more info and to answer any questions you might have about stability and offshore capabilities.

      Thank you for the prompt replies. I just worry about that profile in strong wind conditions. There is a lot of boat above the waterline, but testimonials from people who actually own and sail these boats obviously counts for a lot. The pluses of that great volume are indeed important for liveaboards.

    • @erickraft7079
      @erickraft7079 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sailor5026 Yes, there is some windage, however, this is a 48,000 lb. displacement yacht. Even though shallow draft, there is a whole lot of hull in the water. As hull designer Lou Codega says, "We take the displacement OUT rather than down." VERY stable in all conditions.
