I don't know which is more impressive, that JR could walk up to such a unique instrument and play an awesome solo with mere seconds of instruction, or that the LinnStrument is designed in such a natural way that it immediately makes sense to a well-versed musician. I wish I could have seen Roger Linn's face during that.
yea its impressive but its also important to remember Jordan rude is also a guitar player which is how the linnstrument is formatted and sorry for the 2 year late response
That must have been gratifying, having an accomplished and curious musician come to investigate a new instrument and instantly knock out an enviable and desirable stream of music, a fantastic advert!
This is actually an awesome composition tool if you are a keyboardist looking for guitar lead lines and you are not all that great a guitarist. We live in a one man band age so this would be an essential tool. Great work Mr. Linn. You are a real thinker.
He picked that up fast! As someone who has embraced the seaboard and continuum I'd be really interested in his analysis of the three. Personally, I think the Linnstrument is the most extendable out of all of the expressive controllers, and fundamentally probably the easiest of the existing expressive controllers to learn. Really looking forward to picking one up!
that person wearing the black hat @ 2:07-2:09 is shaking his head in awe and is at a loss for words just like the rest of us.... neat solo by Jordan Rudess
Jr has been doing it for a long time with his iPad apps. Those apps are just like linnstrument. Yes, jr is a keyboard genius but not because of this linnstrument demo
Geezus fuqqing Krist!! He walked up to it, started poking around on it - and (LITERALLY) mastered that shyt in all of 2 gottdamn minutes!!! People like him, Prince, MJ etc... are BEYOND HUMAN!!
GeoShred actually has presets for the Linnstrument, which is awesome. It actually makes more sense that they’d compliment each other more than compete. One is the sound engine with a decent control interface, the other is a top tier control interface in need of a sound engine…and their control interfaces are pretty similar in ideas…
Cool instrument. I am intrigued. Having to stare at it for lack of physical cues and markers would be a major drawback, but the material/membrane looks pretty tactile. That said, it looks like a design which can stand the test of time.
+Geert Bevin so what was the result? What did he said? Any constructive criticism? Judging by his words in other videos, I doubt he's "only about commerce" w.r.t expressive instruments. Seems like he really cares. I may be wrong.
People taking snaps and vids of Jordan when the star of the show is the instrument. I wish FL had MPE so I could hook it up to Kaivo/Aalto and jam all day lol
well, my understanding is that even the default key layout on LinnStrument is better than on Seaboard, as the latter historically mimics piano. With LinnStrument you don't have to learn lots of different "cases" of the same chord w.r.t each "starting note" (e.g. in one case it's black, but in other it's white and then black etc, so one needs to reposition his/her fingers every time) If you have LinnStrument, you just hold your hand in one chord position, and bang it no matter which note is the "lower note" - the chord will always be the same.
I've seen him play the seaboard, touch screen and several other experimental instruments. I can tell by watching him here that this is more of a frustration than enjoyable experience unlike almost all other videos of Jordan play anything. Confirming what I initially thought when I saw this thing a while back. Roger didn't strike gold this time, that's for sure and it's lofty price will keep this unit very limited in the history books as well.
What video did you watch!? He's never touched a Linnstrument before and within 2 minutes, he's playing amazing stuff. I didn't see any frustration and I think you're projecting your own feelings because of the price.
@Rob Smith, I've seen Jordan on other instruments he's never touched before too... Let's just say this one doesn't look very user friendly and for it's size it's a bit pricey and limited.
@Rob Smith, The Roli Seaboard Block is $299. and the roli Concert Grand is $2,999... Think I'll take the better gear and better price... But you enjoy you Linthinggy lol.
yea... but this is much better for guitar players. The layout is much more intuitive than the Roli if you play guitar or bass. If you're primarily a keyboard player, you should definitely go with the Seaboard over the Linnstrument. But I'm a professional bassist and the Linnstrument is much more logical for me.

It was impressive to see other musicians step up to it also, quite a few could almost instantly make sense out of it. Very rewarding!
yea its impressive but its also important to remember Jordan rude is also a guitar player which is how the linnstrument is formatted and sorry for the 2 year late response
Edgar Moreno Jordan has also spent years developing iPad apps like Geosynth and Geoshred both of which are very similar to Linnstrument. :)
Rudess is also responsible for an App that operates in a very similar way. called : Geo Synth
Nota solo...just riffing.

Or a guitarist who wants to play some synths 😊

Not suprised. I think he played a lot his geosynth app

I spot a wild Simone in the background! The legend behind the interface for Audio Modeling’s SWAM instruments!
Even Hideo Kojima came to have a look
watching a genius at work. awesome
that's a nice dire straits vst instrument
That solo sounded much better than DT's last 3 albums.
I guess some of the people walking around are like “who’s this dude that looks like Merlin”? EXACTLY !!!
uhhh... just can't waiiiit when it is available :)
very cool ---- after researching it this week I have decided to order one on Monday
Ha! the cap guy at the end has the same expression I'd have watching this live.
Geezus fuqqing Krist!! He walked up to it, started poking around on it - and (LITERALLY) mastered that shyt in all of 2 gottdamn minutes!!! People like him, Prince, MJ etc... are BEYOND HUMAN!!
Somebody like Jordan sure can have a field day at NAMM !!
..sure can!!!..😶
Been using Jordan's Geosynth for a while now. Very similar to the linnstrument minus the tactile experience.
Made my fingers hot just watching.
You can imagine him thinking “is this going to make GeoShred obsolete?”

A bit depressing that JR can get such results so quickly. Maybe this device is not for the beginner but the gods :/
Couldn't wait till J. R. touches this !!!!!
Now that's what I call a quick study!
and it appears to have strap buttons for some extra cool live gig action
I wish I could play 1/10000000000000000000000th as well as JR can...
Jordan played that thing like it was nothing

0:04 Javanese TRIBE petatonic
Am I the only one who saw Jordan puking on the thumbnail?
Derek Smalls at 0:33!
@Harold the Barrel
LOL!! He and that Zelig guy keep popping up everywhere!
he could play airguitar and it would sound amazing
Cool What is that Instument?
Where and how can I get one?
Rudess could play a toilet paper roll and make it sound great
After the video stopped, Jordan Rudess gave the creator a lesson on how to use it.
does that black guy have a proton pack
JR: 'How much will you pay me to shill for this thing?'
Gideon Waxfarb got to pay the bills! 😂
GeoShred but it is hardware

It's like a low budget Seaboard, that's actually for sale already.

"low budget" lol. It's still a €1600 controller...
lol it’s more expensive than both seaboard rise-tf you saying

And by the way, $999 for a Linnstrument 128 isn't an unreasonable price at all.
