      The home versions, usually with a statue of a lady inside, and maybe 3 feet in length, are currently going for at least $400 . The interest has absolutely skyrocketed in the last few years!

    Cadillac Dealerships of the fifties and sixties were incredible palaces of art deco grandeur.

    • @mulemule
      @mulemule ปีที่แล้ว

      Except then it'd lean more toward Mid-century Modern (since Art Deco's embodied by a 1920's - 30's aesthetic).✌

      @@mulemule they were literally Art Deco. Stop trying to sound smart, it's backfiring.

      @@Robert-Christian Their dominant design aesthetic was (literally) not Art Deco. As noted by Britannica: "Art Deco is a popular design style of the *1920s and ’30s* ..." And echoed by Webster's, "a popular design style of the *1920s and 1930s* ..." And affirmed by the auction house, Rosebery's, "The Art Deco Movement encompasses the *1920's and 30’s,* or the period between the [World Wars]." I know a few Caddy Dealers who are also car collectors...with huge storage facilities for their antiques and one of them comes to mind and I bet he'd bid as much as it takes to win this piece... 3-5k is nothing when it comes to the Man Cave.

      I love it, I could watch it for hours lol. The only thing is, with all that oil running down the lamp, I wonder if crap gets stuck to it all the time, like dust and stuff. I wonder if there's a filter somewhere in there for gunk and stuff. It was the 60s so probably not. lol

      @@dubbie17 they're awesome to look at. But they are notorious for getting filthy after a while. Especially if the person who owns it smokes cigarettes. My aunt had one with the Venus statue in it and the mineral oil was so dirty it dripped out slowly and had an amber tinge to it an smelled like an ash tray

      Only soilax would work, but they don't make it anymore!

    • @anxiousmofo6673
      @anxiousmofo6673 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 you can replace the oil pretty easily. There's usually 3 screws that hold the bottom in place. Remove those and the whole bottom comes off. (Put a bowl or something down to catch the excess oil. Dispose the old oil, rinse the bottom out and put back on the lamp. Then just pour the new oil in. But turn on the lamp as you add the oil untill it starts dripping down the strings. If it makes a gurgling sound just add a little more oil til it stops.
