@@connorcampbell144 Dunno where you got that from, maybe in 1972 that would have been true, but not now. Most people who get one now will know what they're going for, because it's probably not going to be their first or second guitar; probably not even their fifth.

I agree that this sounds great but having said that, I really wish they would have done away with the composite plywood body or have at least the option to upgrade which for the money I think it´s rather a bit high

Man im falling in love with this guitar. It sounds incredible. I love the fact that it doesn't weigh a ton. Never thought much about the Danelectro, they always seemed like something out of the 50s,and i never really heard one till now. Great looking and sounding axe for sure. Thanks Darrell for the great video, always love hearing you play.😉

I sold my 56u3 to a friend a couple of years ago for a bargain price. I never used it and he loved it and he plays it most days for practice unplugged as well as gigs. The hollow body throws out some sound unplugged so it’s good for quiet practice.. He pulls it out for slide playing at gigs and it’s sound is awesome.

That guitar is exactly like my first electric guitar that I got back in 1959. Got it, along with the Danelectro 40 watt Centurion amp and Danelectro reverb tank from an older neighbor kid.
In the early 60’s I had a B-5 Bigsby installed on it. Played in in bands until the spring of 1965 when I bought a new Fender Jazzmaster right after high school graduation.
I have some great old photos of me with that Dani guitar.

Sounds really good... nice sweet chime and some great bite with the overdrive. Another strike against the tonewood argument, I'd suggest.
As for looks, I'd choose the Jade... but then - green is my favourite colour and I really like the idea of the Tolex sides. I must say, though, that the cream and chocolate looks nice, too.

I think I'm gonna get one of those. I've become a Dano fanboy after I played one of them for the first time. The quality you get for the price is amazing. I got a Dano Pro and while it's been pretty cheap I didn't have to do any work on it. It still has the original tuners, mechanics and pickups. Danos just play great out of the box. And I love the low weight.

  • @pbasswil
    @pbasswil 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Also worth checking out: Dans with double lipsticks in the bridge, and a full & warm P90-type at the neck. There are a few bodies with that configuration to choose from. You can split the bridge to get that classic Dano chime. Or keep it humbucking for classic rock. To my ears these sound fab, and bring some different tones to the table.

I tried one out today, and I loved it! It felt better than anything(aside from My Tele Ultra, and the Jagstang I tried a while back). I ts over 1k canadian, but if I saw a used one I'd buy that right away.

I really like this guitar. I have just not ever been into a 21 fret neck on any type, model, brand of guitar, not even on an acoustic guitar, but I have had to deal with such from some electric and acoustic guitars over the years. So I get a cutaway acoustic with an extended fretboard on the 1E-2B-3G strings or have the fretboards modified up to 22 to 24 frets as on an Ovation acoustic and on an electric, I change the neck out or modify it up with a 22 to 24 fret neck. Playing Techniques and Articulations can always be compensated for on a 21 fret guitar and works just fine wether shredding or playing in the guitars upper fret register using bends or slide and playing tunes that don't require more than a 21 fret neck. 👍😎 I would like for the neck to body joint/heel to be more ergonomic. Interesting Controls with a really GR8T Tone, Jangly to Clean to Driven. Lipstick Humbuckers with Coil Splits on both pickups would be even better and allow for more Tone Possibilities ! ! ! IMHO 🤔 I can't see why the thumbs down on this Danelectro video DBG ? ? ? 😎🤘🎸👍 DDH 7-1-2020.

I would have to say that apart from the joy of tuning a Telecaster to DADGAD and jamming out Kashmir the Danelectro DC is just spot on."
Also fun fact It's one of the early Pink Floyd sounds as it was also one of Syd Barrett's go to guitars besides the Fender Telecaster. On the 1992 MCA Jimi Hendrix ultimate Experience on the inside pages there's a Picture of a very young teenaged Jimi Hendrix photographed holding a metalic/Bronze w/white pick guard U 1 Danelectro 1958 3012 DC named "Betty Jean" that he also took to the army; on his front lawn.
I owned a Danelectro vintage 58' Convertible, Electric/ Acoustic, one single coil, one volume, one tone, see through Blonde, unfastened bridge w/ tailpiece, DC, no pick guard, aluminum nut. Wish I never would have sold that guitar.
These reissues don't seem so bad this guitar has a beautiful sound. I was in a Sam Ash some time ago playing a fixed bridge like this model and it was a very eye catching red.
Ideally if I could start a guitar collection today I would Love to start with something like this one.
This cream 59 is just Divine.

    Dan electro divide opinion !
    Andertons were so snooty
I love the evocative playful designs the pick guards that get so aesthetically pleasing to me...I see confident heraldic gothic art deco hints even pre frickin Raphaelites..and when the pick guard encircled the lipstick neck pick up I didn't quite know where to look!
I don't think it could be easy to create unique patterns...then again I can picture an artist with
sheets of big old paper( A2) and loads of charcoal sticks a la twig and hours of free time to mess about with .
I see someone getting loose ...a free moving relaxed arm ! Turn up the Perry Como! not sure...jazz ..blues MUDDY waters you put a tiger in my tank ..you got my mojo working...That or those designers were lovin it ..charcoal...white chalk boundless energy.
joy in their hearts money in their pockets.

I've got a 12 string '59 Danelectro which is shaped the same as yours, except finished in black (it's a different model, I know). Sadly, as much as I love it, you can only play it in the middle position, unless you're fine with compromising some of the jangliness. So this is the first time I'm really hearing the bridge and neck pickups on their own. Makes me want to pick up a six string Dano as well

Always had a soft spot for Danelctro. My first guitar was a U-2. Always thought I wanted a 59, but the pickups are spaced all wrong after playing the U-2. The ultimate Danelctro would have to be the 59-3. I think they stopped making them right after 2005 for some unwise reason. All three pickups switched on would produce a wall of tone.
And now we have the 66. Chances are they need to mod the Hodad to this standard. Played a 66 and I'm severely torn now between the 59-3 and the 66.
Does beg the question: Danelctro Custom shop? Basically Build-a-bear for what I have in mind. Doubleneck 59-3 12-string top, and a 64 NOS bottom. No trem, graphite nuts, exposed gear tuners, separate controls. And I want a black burst finish.

Both that one and the jade look and sound great, but most importantly, different, so they are a viable option for the guitarist who doesn't use just one guitar. Danelectro have some rather hideous ones in their lineup, but lets leave it at to each his own.
I had the chance to play a 63 Dano in Gold metal flake. That thing stood out and in such a good way too (the red one was also nice). It was far from being the best guitar I ever played, but it had looks AND personality. I want that thing on my wall, such an eye catcher, and despite the fact that it was badly taken care of because it was in a bookstore that had a music department, it was really fun to play. It needed TLC badly... there was even rust on the strings. At less than 600$ CAD, it's one of those guitars that makes you realize how great and fun an affordable instrument can be.

Ever notice some guitars sound good but the shape is just weird? This has a very vintage cool look and beautiful sounds. I want one now

Man, I just love your teeth. Can you tell me where I can buy a set just like your? Then I too could look like a Cheshire cat when I play.

Is it just me or does this one sound even more brighter than 57? I might be imagining because I saw those slanted pickups

I have been saving for a Danelectro 12 string electric for unite some time. This month I finally had the money together, and Musicians Friend had been running a sale on them. I got my paycheck, it was deposited, and I went to MF’s website to place my order. But the Guitar was no longer in inventory. There is a newer version available, but they are more expensive than the older model by a long shot! Can you check into this Darrell?

5.8 lbs? Wow! I have a couple of modern Silvertone Strat clones myself. Not sure what they weigh. One is quite a bit heavier than the other, though. They're decent, inexpensive guitars built by Samick up until 2016.

How do you move the saddles on this bridge to intonate the guitar? The string is right over the screw. Thank you great video

Are these Danos still wired in series? Mine all are and that means the center position is louder than the bridge or neck positions. Love the Divine!

Always been drawn to these guitars. My only issue is; would they fit on a wall mounted guitar hanger?

Lucky enough to have an original 59 dc-2.;) She's been re-wrapped, re-knobbed, re-guarded, and re-tunered? If you could see the neck-wear you would understand why. She's been well played and well loved for over 60 years. Pretty sure that'll still be the case in another 60!;D
I actually like the sustain from the metal nut on the original (and the rosewood bridge.) The concentric knobs were confounding enough without having to add a bump-switch under them.

Great sound. Do the pickups hum?

I first played a Danelectro 59 NOS years ago. I was really blown away. I don’t know why it took me 20 years to finally buy one. My Les Paul and Tele get kinda jealous sometimes. They’re really great guitars. A bit noisy sometimes, but that’s a minor inconvenience.

@@weekendlani9968 the pickups have a bit of hum to them. It’s not really that bad, but it is noticeable with the amp turned up.

Hi Darrell, as per my comment on the 57 vid, what is the neck profile like? Do the profiles differ between the 2 guitars as they would on a Fender or a Gibson of different periods?

It's a cool axe but I really wish Dano (and Fender MIM for that matter) would start using rosewood again on their fretboards. The Pau Ferro boards just give off this nasty upper mid harshness to me across all the tones. Plus they don't feel as nice and soft to play on as rosewood.

What grit sandpaper or sponge do you use for polishing fret ends.
