      You can add an ep brush and tie the snook muddler, tarpon toad, or add some rooster hackle and tie the foxy deceiver. I definitely understand your dilemma. I have amassed quite a bit of material as well. The snook and tarpon will smash those flies!

    Jesse,
    Thank you for teaching at last night's Tailwater Outfitters fly tying. Meant to ask, what brand and size baby tarpon fly do you fish?
    Thanks again

    • @BackwaterFlyFishing
      @BackwaterFlyFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was my pleasure to be there and great to see so many people come out. Flies are very dependent on water conditions and locations that fish feed. If the fish are up top, on the bottom, or mid column then different tactics need to be used. But a small 2" white rabbit tail or 2" EP minnow typically gets all the fish in the 5-30lb range. If the water is super dark then a dark color like black or purple can work as well.

      @@BackwaterFlyFishingThanks for the reply. What hook(s) should I use?

    • @BackwaterFlyFishing
      @BackwaterFlyFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrystalmurray5535 My favorite baby tarpon hooks for 5-15lb tarpon are the 1/0SC15 or 1/0SL12. If you are fishing near mangroves or docks where you will need to be putting plenty of pressure on the fish then go with the 1/0 SL12 as it is stronger than the SC15.

    Perfect fly, simple, quick to tie and looks effective. Will be tying a few of these for my planned visit to Florida (covid 19 permitting) from the UK. May I enquire as to the size of hook you used? thanks.

      @@BackwaterFlyFishing ok,thanks! Going to tie some soon. Seems like most tarpon flies are tied with bead chain instead of dumbells. Any particular reason besides fishing depth?

    • @BackwaterFlyFishing
      @BackwaterFlyFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brody Stiarwalt in most cases tarpon feed upwards so there is no need to sink they fly very deep...in most cases. However if you are fishing them in passes or deep canals I have had the need for lead eyes when you are getting strikes from fish deeper in the water column.
