Good video! Don't see very many about these blades...😢 Mine is from 1974, with its original dangler sheath....In agreement, they are all you say they are & more...thanks!😊

I saw one of these at a garage sale the other day not nearly as nice as yours but still very nice. Some guy got there right before me and bought it. I am 100% buying one on ebay. It was love at first sight!! This was like 3 days ago and I have been thinking about it everyday since lol

Nice! I have a Western Bowie too. Searched ebay for a long time until one came by at the right price. I know how you feel about it.

The J on your Bowie is a date code. Starting in 1977 with A, Western stamped all but the West Mark series with a letter indicating what year the knife was built. Your Bowie was made in 1986.

I recently found my passion for knives again and never thought I would own any Bowie knives. The first one I bought is the Coldsteel 1917 Frontier Bowie. I liked it so much I ordered another one then followed by the Wild West Bowie. I actually prefer that blade shape the most and I really like the Western 49 that it’s modeled after.

Funny I've been carrying a Spyderco dlc coated fully serrated police since 89. I love my western 49 from the early 70's also. Nice pics, 🗡️👍🔪

What a beaut. There aren't many I've seen in that condition. As a pup I remember seeing that knife in the Western Display case and being in awe of it. I've added a good many Westerns to the collection since. None draw as much attention as a W49. Classic.

I do love that knife. I passed by that W49 many times before I got my hands on it. Simpler times. Would love to see your Westerns. As always, thank you brother!

i just bought this exact western bowie at a gun and knife show last weekend it has the same j stamp too. an absolute beauty, but some jackwagon put a super steep edge angle on it. so i have to reprofile the edge.

Very nice 49. Mine is an "M". Bought off eBay several years ago, it was extremely neglected but not used & abused. Blade was almost all corroded black with peppered streaks of mirror, brass was green & red oxidized, rosewood scales looked nice though. After extensive stage sanding & polishing it is restored nearly 100%, some traces of spotting just too deep, but it's hardly noticeable. I've even used my Western w49 for splitting firewood, even though I have a lot of knives, Bowies particularly. I had to try it out to see & it's awesome, went through those logs easily with almost no edge sharpness lost. Only problem is the scratches to the blade mirroring, but I'm used to that from my other Bowies I've mirrored & it's just more polishing again. I have a Timber Rattler Western Outlaw I customized & mirror polished that generally gets those brutal jobs, it's a bulletproof 2+pound beast that does not give a f#@k! Lol Thx for showing your favorite it's a beautiful classic.
