Thank you for posting this! I’m going to start restoring my dad’s WWII machete soon and this will really help! I might have some problems with fitting the knife in vinegar but it should be fine.
Good job on cleaning the blade. While vinegar is NOT for stag, those scales could be removed and the tang cleaned and oiled as well. You'd need new brass pins to refix the handle, but that extra effort would be worthwhile in the long run. (You don't know what's under those scales if you don't look.)

@@TryThisDIYFix Yeah. Reason I found this video is cause I was looking for a guide, then was shocked to see my knife haha. Mine does differ slightly, though on the guard bit. Need to buy a knife sharpener cause it's so blunt and has plenty of kinks in it. Then will use your tutorial. 😁
@@TryThisDIYFix I managed to tidy it up it a bit using just sandpaper. Nice and shiny (mostly) now. gonna be honest with you, not much of a restoration. (hear me out now) removing rust from the blade is a great first step but did you re-sharpen it or oil it to protect it further afterwards? is the handle up to par and sitting on tight? little things like this is what i specialize in so sorry for the nitpicking but i can't help myself. ive got an old knife that is very similar to this one but in much worse shape, im currently fully restoring it meaning i had to pick it apart down to the knife blank, tons of rust and bad epoxy work has to go in addition to it having a 20 degree warp in the tang from aging in humidity. as a closing statement i really enjoyed the video and am planning to stick around for future content.. saying "sticking around for future content" while commenting on a year old video sounds strange dont it? recommendations am i right lol also great video:) i like your style
Thanks for watching! And yes I understand what you are saying. I did add some oil later to the blade. The handle is ok, it’s a little loose but still ok. Thanks for the comment!
@@TryThisDIYFix thanks for the reply, if the handle gets too loose for your liking remember that epoxy fixes everything (as long as you have a file set and some sandpaper)
