The bike's owner Adem Lakeman, who is a mechanic at Cycles UK, said he was visiting a friend and stopping off at Tesco when his bike was stolen from the busy shopping centre.
When he returned to collect his bike, he found it had gone and spoke to a passerby, who had already called the police and showed him the videos he took of the theft.
Adem said he had owned his electric bike for just more than a year and was using it to get to work as he is recovering from two herniated discs in his lower back.
He continued: 'I felt sick after seeing my bike stolen. Suffering from anxiety it's the only way I feel comfortable getting around.

This is why you don't buy D locks and definitely never buy cable locks!, always get chain linked locks, they cannot get a good cut on the chains because they don't hold still and ping around too much.
Always get a hardened steel chain-link, also make sure the lock is either a discus lock or a regular padlock but make sure the shackle is short and thick.
longer shackles can be easily pulled open and they're easier to cut with a saw, shorter shackles are harder for tools to fit in and ping around a lot from a saw.
Nothing is impossible to unlock.

chain linked locks are actually worse than lots of D lock from kryptonite. Having your bike registered with ur local police and have an hidden gps locator in it will help greatly too.
There's actually a D-lock that has anti buzz saw coating. I saw a video where this guy was testing the strength and he went through 10 buzz saws and an angle grinder. He finally got it off by bringing a generator and a huge saw.

Good advice, but you have to also remember your chain is only as strong as what you fasten it around, most street furniture and bike parks are made out of mild steel so it cuts like butter.

there are 2 things you can do to mitigate the loss of your bike if you're not allowed to take it in the buisness your parked in front of.
1 remove the battery, so they'll have to peddle that shit and run the risk of getting caught.
2 put a tracking device inside of the bike somewhere so when they think their riding off in the sunset the cops will find them with no problem.
Another pro tip, don't buy a bike if they do not allow you to remove the battery, plain & simple it prevents you from replacing the battery yourself which is a shady business practice and also as I said before if you cannot remove the battery for safe keeping it makes it way easier for a thief to make off like a bandit with your bike.
If your e-bike is heavy like mines they won't get far peddling that thing without the support of the battery.

Except there's no guarantee that they would have actually stopped these guys. Studies on stop and search show they're not effective. They just harm regular people and put them in danger.

Agreed but I have to everyday to go to work in Boulder Colorado, don’t have a car, I track mine with an AirTag and somedays hide a gps cellular device in the seat holder so I can find it if stolen and have protection against theft on warranty on my ebike at least

Only 1 lock? I always use 3 chains with 3 different kind of padlocks for my foldie. Better make it harder for the thieves.
Why just stand there filming them. Maybe if people didn't have mobile phones they would stop them like they would in the old days. If you grabbed him and skimmed him across the floor and said thats my bike they are not going to carry on they would leg it.

That’s why I never leave me my scooter chained up anywhere it’s always by my side wherever I go!! You just can’t leave something like that out of sight especially if it costs thousands of dollars!!
Bought a nice bike once and asked the shop owner what lock to use. His response was don’t lock your bike and leave it or you’ll be coming back to buy another one. The bike went wherever I went. In the store, a restaurant, wherever.

Cops in the USA will say "happens all the time kiss it goodbye"(IOW, admitting to the fact that here most cops are wastes of space that would prefer to arrest you on false charges than to be told what to do) I had a very rare bike as a kid, a Redline RL640, only ever heard or seen the one I owned until one day while in 8th grade I saw a kid with the same bike!!!! His father was a SERGEANT and DETECTIVE. And of course that was my freaking bike. I worked as a paper boy for 4 years to buy it. I knew the VIN by heart. And because I made a fuss and NEVER DID get bike back, my family and I was harassed by cops until we gave up and moved a year later. FORCED to move. Interestingly enough, the harassment didn't stop. One county over was not far enough.
This is the reason I WILL NOT spend my hard earned cash on buying a bike.

DO NOT get a nice bike if you are going to lock/chain it outside.
You can get a perfectly decent used mountain bike for a few hundred dollars that you could easily commute 20+ mi a day, maybe not as easily as a $5,000 ebike, but I wouldnt dream.of locking one of those up outside... for this very reason
