Literally withdrawing from an antipsychotic right now and let me tell you, it’s hell. Been through codeine withdrawals, morphine, Ativan, nicotine… none of those compare to the special kind of hell I’m in currently. In my opinion, nobody should take them unless absolutely necessary. The withdrawal of some of them can easily kill a person.
How are you feeling? Symptoms wise
Hope you are ok. 💐
@@renee7271 to be quite frank, pretty bad! I’ve been going in and out of a manic state, vomiting every day for three weeks, barely can get out of bed some days, a strong sense of doom, extreme mood swings, crying a lot, etc. A couple days there I had some brief moments of psychosis, as can happen when going off them, but for the most part I’m just really off, mentally and emotionally and physically. I didn’t initially go on them for psychosis, I was put on them for extreme anxiety and ptsd, so I’m lucky not to have worse psychosis going off of them and also lucky that they aren’t providing relief anymore, so that makes it a lot easier to go off of them than if I had schizophrenia or active psychosis or something.
I am really glad to get off them though, cause once I’m done with the withdrawals I won’t have to deal with all of the side effects anymore which are their own kind of torture.
@@sunnydays2020 thank you ❤️ I am! It’s been very hard but I really am happy to be able to go off them. It’s been a long road to get here!
I just wanted to say that I have tardive dyskensia from taking psych meds and withdrawing from them, and my symptoms are slowly improving with a lot of time. I feel that you are very well intentioned with your message, and, a lot of people who watch your content are hanging on by a thread. Please don't use the word "permanent." My understanding is that we actually have no research to prove permanent damage, and the anecdotal evidence suggests that this NOT true. While my symptoms aren't gone, they are changing, and if that can happen to me, it can happen to anyone and everyone else. Thank you for your consideration!
I agree! Maybe “long term” would be better? Because hey, if people’s cancer can disappear in an instant with no explanation, then we HAVE to believe there’s hope for other things too. The body is incredible at self-healing, when it has the right supports ❤
Yet the only side effect my psych mentioned, over and over and over again, was weight gain.
There are a range of antipsychotic medications. The ones most known for causing weight gain also have the least risk of developing tardive dyskinesia. Still, a good healthcare provider should give you the full rundown of potential risks.
@@connerl5609I work in mental health and a handful of the clients I work with have developed tardive dyskinesia, however, they’re on stronger doses of antipsychotic medications and have been on them for several years. Because I’m more familiar with these meds and their symptoms, I was a little bit surprised when the psychiatrist only noted weight gain. It came across like she had some negative feelings towards folks who weigh more, as I myself am not overweight so gaining a few pounds wouldn’t be a huge deal
SSRI’s are no joke either!! No doctor will ever tell you how hard it is to taper off that crap. Took me months and months and was the worst thing I’ve ever been through.
I think it's safe to say that We All Regret the Day We Ever Walked In To A Psychiatrist's Office. If I had Never Made That Mistake, I probably Would Have Actually Had A Life. I grieve that fact Every Day of My Life...They have caused my entire life to be Destroyed. You will hear that from Almost Every patient who made the same mistake I did. Thank you, Dr. Josef. It's time we stopped this Horror that has been going on for MANY, MANY, DECADES.
🙏🏻
I had a healthcare provider who was always trying to push anti psychotics on me for my anxiety. I always refused, and she seemed angry and said I had to come off my benzo of 20+ years, so I did taper off. But she was always endorsing anti psychotics, thank God I never listened.
So how long did it take to taper of your benzo?
@@marianneellman1139 in total it was 2 years. I reinstated at a lower dose at one point, then tapered off of that, so basically was tapering from August 2021-September 2023. I’ve been off for about 8 months. I still have a z drug to taper, I’m just starting that taper now.
...
FYI tardive dyskinesia is not guaranteed
Yet they hand them out and say it’s good for you…
Yeah. Because if you need them you REALLY need them. And having a functioning brain that isn't lying to you is generally considered to be a higher priority than having hand tremors.
All meds have side effects. The question is if it's worth the risk of side effects to treat the issue it's addressing.
@@BeckySeven with this explanation they still try to alter peoples brain chemistry too much just like they did with lobotomies in the 20s-70s when someone acted in a way they didnt like
@@BeckySExactly; un4tun8ly; psych meds DO NOT ADDRESS NOR RESOLVE THE TRIGGERS that cause mental health conditions (w.g.: abuse, bullying, conflict, disrespect, & harassment committed against an individual by others). All psych meds really do's "pacify" the reactions from the person on the receiving end of the a4mentioned triggers. As if defending urself's so wrong.
@@BeckyS Wrong; psych meds actually INCREASE the physical symptoms. Who supplied u the erroneous info; the mental health system? Furthermore; psych meds DO NOT ADDRESS NOR RESOLVE THE TRIGGERS that cause mental health conditions (e.g.: abuse bullying, conflict, disrespect, the harassment, & mistreatment by others). They r simply "chemical pacifiers" (i.e.: designed 2 silence u when getting abused, bullied, & harassed by others).
@@BeckyS hand tremors... you're downplaying the issue quite a bit, it's actually very disabling to have all sorts of involuntary movements. Plus antipsychotics are prescribed off-label pretty freely to people who have never had psychosis, without any of benefit but with a lot of harm
They don't even know all the side effects lol
Of anti-psychotics
Gotta stay positive and sweat/detox all this garbage out.
@@user-kw1ig4yu6iThe "lol" is uncalled 4.

What are we supposed to do though, if we have bipolar? Are there any other options??
I'm on Quetiapine 100mg, and my first day on it, when I was on 75mg, my hand were so shaky I had to ask another patient to scribe for me so I could write in my diary. But on day 2 I was fine.
It restored my ability to concentrate pretty dramatically, and it's made sure I can sleep at night. If I don't take it, I can't sleep and as much as I hate to admit it, the way my brain goes haywire at night now, if I wasn't taking anything, even with the ability to sleep without meds, my sleep routine would be all over the place. The meds force my brain to calm down.
Night is the worst time for body dysmorphia, and dark thoughts, so sleeping at night really helps my mental health.
Ativan caused me tardive dyskinesia among hundreds other symptoms. Its the only prescription i took daily for 9 years prescribed by a family doctor not psychiatry.
❤ thank you sir.. Facts
Bro told you to name one and you immediately named a fucking category
Haldol
Gow113; Don't make a "mountain out of a molehill".
Antipsychotics are absolute hell to be on. Oddly enough meth reverses the side effects of this medication which can cause uncontrollable muscle movements which I started experiencing in 2017 or maybe 2016 and they still have me on antipsychotics and if I didn't have something to counteract the side effects I wouldn't even be here today but my mental health team or the hospital never seemed to care about the absolute nightmare I went through because of these medications. They weren't concerned at all.
Did you have tongue protusion? Lingual tardive dyskinesia?
went on a "new" medication, Vraylar, highly recommended for bi polar. 2 months in I started shaking so bad I had to give up my passion of motorcycle riding. sold the bike immediately as my nervous system was going haywire too. ended up on a new med that has literally put me on the path to make me feel normal again. thinking of going off as I had to have a parkinsons test because I was shaking so bad that I can hardly eat.
I have Bipolar II and Autism and was on antipsychotics for much of my childhood and teen years. They gave me some really annoying and visible facial twitches and they made me so depressed and unmotivated. I'm on a different class of mood stabilizer (Lamictal, an anticonvulsant that's also used in Bipolar II cases) and it's so much better than Ability/Respirifone was
And here I am, the rare case where Lamictal gave me tardive dyskinesia. It was the first medication tried after being diagnosed with epilepsy so when the weird movements started I thought it was a new seizure type.
What to do with insomnia when we start to wean off?
Would zyprexa be an antipsychotic med?
Newsome Sunlight; Zyprexa/Olanzapine IS an antipsychotic.
Yes
What do you think about Joey Marino's story? ❤
Go for atypical antipyschotics like quetiapine
I'm really scared of SSRIs too.
I got TD from olanzapine and fluoxetine.
These drugs destroy lifes.
My daughter took Ziprazadone for years, and she said that she didn't have any weirder stuff happening in her brain or body. I took paxil for about a year, and I had horrible withdrawal from that. Paxil is supposed to be just an antidepressant but it hits harder than alcohol withdrawal, and that was killer.
I got TD & Dystonia when the Dr gave me an injection of Anti-nausea medication called Metoclopramide (aka Reglan & Maxalon)😢
This medication has a black box warning for under ten year old.
It was given to me during my last 2 of 4 pregnancies and I believe now, that this is why those two children have tourettes.
I am thinking at this stage, the that serotonin and dopamine suppressing drugs are not good for the developing foetus, contributing to the rise in many movement disorders🧐
If you're on these strong medications , it's always a good idea to take them on time! Always wean off them slowly and and never go cold turkey, or run out.🙏
I was given Reglan I’d say ohhhhhhh… at least one hundred times under the age of ten. It used to make me freak out, not be able to stop moving in my hospital bed. I much preferred Phenagrin.. of course now I would refuse it knowing the warnings. God awful.
@mollyram2997 heck, that's awful! I'm sorry your younger self went through that! Do you have any tingles, twitches, tics or spasms as an adult??
The visiting Dr gave me a 20m injection 4 years ago and the dystonia and tardive dyskinesia came on & enhanced within 24 hours. I has a 30 year relationship with reglan, but I'm shite scared of serotonin and dopamine meds now! I understand exactly where you're coming from with that fear!🗝🙏
My nephew who has autism has been permanently dekcuf by antipsychotic and all the other crap the pseudoscience of psychiatrist prescribed him, as a child he seemed a little hyper active at times would focus on his trains but not engage with people I'm sure that this happened after the jabs but once your mob got their hands on him they totally dekcuf him up with Tourette's movement disorders and other obsession, big pharma and medical quackery are pathetic piece of crap.
The first one that came to mind for me was seroquel, so I agree
Thank you Sir
What do you think about dna testing for drugs like antidepressants? I did gene sight testing and it took out all the trial and error to find the right antidepressant for me.
How do you do that?
@@snowps1Your doctor has to write the order. Its called Genesight I recall. Just google about it.
@@snowps1 Just ask your primary care doctor about Gene Sight Testing or google it. It was free with my state insurance at the time. It’s also a simple mouth swab. So nothing crazy.

@@beccaturner24 oh nice
What med was it??? Also what are some common anti psychotics???
Haldol
Risperdal, Zyprexa/olanzapine, and aripripazole/abilify. List is longer but there are some examples.
Most bad to me was Risperidone, then Valproic acid
So what would you do with a fully blown psychosis in someone? Since you hate on every single pill, I would like to know, how would you treat schizophrenia patients for example?
Massive amounts of linseed or flax oil!!
Bro, i don't think hes against the idea you have to eat antipsychotics when you have a psychotic episode. The problem is some doctors will convince you to be on the meds for years on end without reason.
Sammy B.; most psych meds do cause/aggrav8 psychosis. There4; u must believe in the "chemical imbalance" philosophy RE: mental health conditions.
Antipsychotis only use in emergency for some days! But not for months or years. I was forced to take antipsycotics against my will for 22 years and it get worse than hell! I got colon Cancer 4 years ago! And all the time i got medicamentinduced withdrawlpsychosis! It ruined my life!😢
What do you think about tetrabenazine?
Does it help TD or will cause more problems?
Neuroleptics.
Ms. Tujague; Neuroleptics r also a form of antipsychotics. Not only that; neuroleptics also act similar 2 benzodiazapines (e.g.: Zyprexa; a.k.a.: OlanZAPINE; rhymes w/benzodiaZAPINE).
Bet it’s Trazodone. That stuff will Zombify you.
My uncle was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and he had td in his face. My uncle creeped me out like he killed people or something
Cymbalta how to taper
Hell yea they are blunting
*sometimes permanent
With all respect to you,Doctor, there are Psychiatric Medications that have saved lives
Not everyone has negative reactions
Your opinion is far too sweeping
Destroyed so many lives
Antidepressants are just little better than placebo.
Sorry.
He’s just showing all angles. The other side that we never EVER hear about, so that the patient can make their own decisions or at least know and be aware of the risks.
Kein Arzt klärt einen auf .Ich bin von seroquel schwer geschädigt worden. 😢
The problem with this is, you are coming from a place where the potential side effects seem huge because you don't have an actual psychiatric problem.
For people going through hell just existing every day, the potential side effects are nothing in comparison to what they are already living with.
I tried SSRIs it made me blunted. I had my blood work done and turns out I’m iron and b12 deficient that’s causing me to become depressed.
Seizures!
The hand out actual poison and call it medicine 😡
cant be psychotic if youre asleep 🤪 - seroquel
Ramsey Zev; GET REAL RE: "Can't be psychotic if you're asleep". Seroquel ain't no fuckin' different.
Seroquel actually forced me to stay awake. I'd end up unable to move at night, lying there awake, listening to the voices and seeing things that weren't there. No matter how much they increased the dose, I was stuck in hell almost every night for 2 years. It's so weird how the same pill can affect people so differently.
@@marissacolvin5969 Marissa; I feel ya. Though I was nvr on Seroquel; ALL PSYCH MEDS r "chemical pacifiers" (i.e.: designed 2 silence u when getting abused, bullied, & harassed by others). A natural self-defense mechanism is deemed "inappropriate" by society. That equivalent 2 saying that sexual assai(i.e: rape) is acceptable. Basically; we PUNISH those on the receiving of such abuse by drugging them w/no means of providing them alternative coping mechanisms.
Medicine is difficult and imperfect. But this jackass is not helping anyone. Unfortunately there is no mechanism that keeps doctors from being an attetion seeking tool.
