Good God! This is a great example of how NOT to lay bricks or use a Flemish bond. This is absolutely NOT a Flemish bond. I've seen apprentice brick layers on the job for three days that do much better than this. Unbelievable.
With that mortar and the volume used, there is no adhesion between any surface of those bricks. I know it is only a demonstration where the bricks will be later dismantled, but perhaps in teaching a subject one should not cut out and miss out or mislead about any of the important ingredients in the full recipe.
Thanks for the comment. The video does clearly state @1:27 that you should mix the mortar exactly as instructed on its packaging, and as specified in the mix design. There is no attempt or intent to cut out or mislead as your comment states. Further, Sikana's videos are designed to be short and based on one specific technique or topic. Here, it is strictly about the full brick wall in a flemish bond, so the mortar composition is not the focal point of the video. Our short videos are then structured into easy-to-follow programs. The Introduction to Masonry program has 45 videos and can be found in full here: bit.ly/2w6Pefx In it, you'll find more detailed videos regarding mortar and everything else related to masonry, hope that helps, Carmel!
@@SikanaEnglish The flemish bond layout is right but the video may not be as helpful as you intended because the bricklaying technique is so off. The mortar should be compressed in each bed and head joint. In real life, it wouldn't matter if you got the pattern right. If you set bricks on top of stiff mortar (instead of compressing them into it) and fill in head joints later, that wall will not be sound.
I didn't watch the video, I just couldn't tbh. But I think by the picture, I'd get fired if I did this to a brick wall. I can't even see the bricks through that sloppy mess. I had to read the comments. I don't like being a hater on the internet... I am sorry but thumbs down.
Can't they afford lime/plasticer the mortar's got less life in it than a cemetery, what pattern is that trowel and why's he wearing a mask. so many questions?????? Music is soothing though might order a take away haven't made my mind up yet.
Thanks for commenting Allan, we'll bear it in mind- as for the mask, you can never be too careful! Glad you like the music, and hope you enjoyed your takeaway. Have you checked out any of the other videos in this series? th-cam.com/play/PLWgKm7kgxzCtBQroz4rGzfphlBQD6wZGZ.html
@@SikanaEnglish If you want to make bricklaying videos you need to hire a mason that knows how to construct a brick wall. what you have shown is the work of a rank beginner.
Imagine Gupta turning up on site one morning and laying bricks like this :D
