Havent really done anything on windy days. Onshore winds bring bigger swell and so more dangerous. If you are fishing when they first start blowing it may not be too bad safety wise but it will build up and sometimes very quickly. The wind behind you will flatten the swell out. When you have had some heavy onshore swell and there is lots of church the snapper come in close to feed on anything that's been smashed up so when it's safe straight after a storm it can be really good as long as the water isn't chocolate (milky is ok) so not too close to a river/freshwater source for example....windy days can be better because the surface is disturbed and there's a bit more cover for the fish in close, as long as you're safe.
I like your advise on KY. Too many times I see people just take them off the hook and let them flap around on the rocks for a few minutes before kicking them back into the water. If you're not going to eat it, release it right away. I'm not a fan of KY and will only ever keep them if I know someone who wants one and/or going to use them for bait. Like anything, people need to learn to respect the ocean, including sea life and it's sustainability.

@@johnarrones5396 Of course.... I find the canned stuff easier to use - fish/salmon flavoured works well. Most petfood, whatever the form, will have a positive effect on drawing fish to your location....

Great video to get a beginner into rockfishing!! Do you know of good rock fishing spots near central/east auckland that are easily to get to and easy to fish for a beginner?
Good spots that are easy to get to are difficult to find - if they were good and easy, everyone would be there. Worth walking out to the end of Music Point and fishing over the low in the evening.....there's a big rock you can fish off but only around low tide.... during the day is too much boat traffic but middle of the night is better, don't get caught/cut off with the incoming tide....
Rods - fishing east coast a 7'6"-10'ft rod covers lots of possibilities. I have a t-curve 10-15kg 7'6" with an overhead reel but if you want a rod for a spinning reel, the shimano triton or vortex 10-15kg 10' rock rod is pretty good. I would also rate the Kilwell jelly tips 10-15kg and CD rods rock rod 10-15kg (may have to look for one second hand). Lures - stick baits can be expensive to lose off the rocks but the hitters are quality without being as expensive as the Carpenter's, williamson stickbaits also ok...

+Andres Garcia It does depend on the wind direction, usually if you are rock fishing, it is safer to fish with the wind behind you because it means it isn't pushing the swell up the rocks too forcefully or dangerously. This means the wind pushes your berley further out ratehr than back into you. You may find you have to occssionally pull the berley in again and chuck it out because of the wind coming from the side. I am doing a berley video now, will be out in a week or too that discusses it in more in depth detail.....

Yeah pretty tough - if you wrap the line around the handle of a knife (or handle of the gaff maybe, something smooth and round) 5 or more times and then wrap a towel or cloth on top you should be able to walk backwards without straining the gear and it will break.

Just asking why use leader? I just double mainline. This works really well

One spool had 25lb mono and the other 65lb braid

Usually used baits with no weight, sometimes a 1/4 ounce.....

Yeah when tying braid to mono, the FG knot is a real good one....
