This scene becomes a thousand times better when you take into consideration that Luffy did this not only for the sake of a girl he just met, but a former enemy who was responsible for his friend's childhood of suffering.
Girl he just met?
@@Snipi98 Camie.
Camie
If we go with real time then he had just met her a few days ago
@@Kanerudo he actually just met her that day!
@@awesomeme9093for some of us that is like 600 episodes ago. It is understandable if we forgot a small detail like that.
That punch cost them 2 years of being away from each other but it also made them learn how unready they were to go against the most powerful forces. it's worth it.
At Enies Lobby, Luffy showed he was willing to stand against the world for another's sake.
At Sabaody, Luffy learned what it meant to stand against the world.
At Marineford, Luffy chose to _keep_ standing against the world.
@@kiraina25 this gave me the chills
Pretty much because let’s face it if the Strawhats had gone to the New World as they were they would’ve most likely been decimated.
Perfect example of beta region paradox :)
This one punch caused it all
Punching a celestial dragon to a real dragon. Luffy really came a long way
We are talking about Kaido or the dragon Luffy found at that island where akaino and Aokiji fought?
@@Crossing-Blades Kaido
kaido is actually a fish, he ate Fish-Fish Fruit, Model Azure Dragon
then he will punch dragon (as in Monkey D. Dragon)
@@zolozoro58technically yes but it is considered a dragon
The punch is incredible. But think about this: Luffy is unaffected by bullets. They just bounce off of him. So Luffy not only wanted to punch this dude so hard he'd feel it forever, but he also made the DELIBERATE effort to dodge the bullets just to show the Celestial Dragon how vulnerable he is. It's freaking sick. Definitely on the same level with the Bellamy punch. So satisfying to see Luffy use no powers at all to put someone in their place.
Who couldn't have dodged them because they have sea prism bullets and luffy knew that's why he dodged and not to show off ☠️
@@EkinDCetin either way 100 percent satisfy lol ☠
@@EkinDCetin There are no sea prism bullets. The technology to make something small out of Sea Prism can only be found in Wano.
@@BraveryWing26 them how does the government have sea prism cuffs but no bullets ☠️☠️☠️
@@EkinDCetin That's precisely what I meant. Wano knows how to miniaturize or at least make smaller things like Sea Prism Nails and there are no Bullets so far.
Bigger things are easier to make according to Oda.
Oda can make mistakes. Before he revealed this Wano thing Sea Prism did have a different backstory.
I love how Luffy doesn't use his Devil Fruit to punch him from the bottom of the stairs, or to reflect the bullets. He just walks up to the guy and punches him in the face.
Which makes it better, since It shows ewryone can stand up against the celestial dragon even without haki or devil fruit.
Subtle way of showing he's human in front of a monster
Wanted to let him know this punch came from his soul.
Luffy just wanted to be extra disrespectful. Man wasn't even worth the "Gomu Gomu go f*ck yourself"😂😂😂
No devil fruit use. He’s that strong without it
It’s not just the punch, it’s the forbidden act of attacking a celestial dragon, hachi pleading not to act cos of the consequences despite getting shot, his crew mates not interfering, his competition shocked of what he was about to do, everything adding to that one satisfying punch makes it the most iconic OP moments for me
Also Kid and Law in the aftermath were awesome. Kid was happy that Luffy was legit, and that they weren't rumors, that this guy is that crazy. Even Law was like, you love to see it.
@@3Rayfire true. Aftermath created the worst generation which lives on to this day
Everyone on the crew was there, but none of them tried to stop Luffy.
Just shows that the crew also hated that celestial dragon to the point of not caring about the consequences and just let Luffy do his thing.
@@thetitanhater they had already declared war on the government at this point didn't they? they just didn't attack one of these celestial dragons before because their friends asked them not to, so it was just out of respect for their mates
The moment Luffy looked at him from the bottom of the stairs he should have shot at Luffy but he didn't which seems like a minor plot hole because he definitely wouldn't hesitate to shoot a "kid" like Luffy for something so minor after he tried the same thing on Zoro just for looking at him. I'm guessing the reason the writers/animators didn't have him shoot Luffy right away was because it would make it look like Luffy punched him in self defense rather than out of the sheer anger he felt towards him.
Everyone knows what a relief it is to see that celestial dragon get what he deserves .!
Doflamingo wants to know your location friend. ☺
@@brunobarbosa9876
Luffy says "anytime, any place, bub"
@@brunobarbosa9876 trust me I’ll have Luffy ready to fight
relief? bro almost got his whole crew killed 💀
@@bbgplug51 , Luffy would have only gotten all of his Crew killed if Zoro killed Saint Charlos instead, but since Luffy only punched Saint Charlos it’s very obvious that they didn’t die at all since Kizaru was sent to Sabaody instead.
One of the reasons this is cemented as the top punches in anime, this punch costed a lot, those consequences they warned Luffy about, actually happened, but Luffy don't care he paid it anyways because he stands on his word and he''ll do something about it if he doesn't like it.
What consequences? This was before they sent Kuma after them, right?
@@TarotVylan Because of this punch, they sent kizaru who basically was about to wipe out the entire crew until kuma sent them all over the world
@@abdulsattarmohammed3918 Important to point out that luffy did not know about the "sent them away part", so for a time it was a "i got everyone killed vibe"
Actually Luffy heard Sentomaru saying Kuma sent them away@@Nomoon777
This is where the story took a really hard turn.
Only trauma comes after this 😢
It took a tough turn, but it lead to roof piece, one piece build up unmatched
@@the_mse sad thing is how true that statement is in hindsight
@@halo3isawsome321 bro why do mfs say roofpiece like it’s peak of one piece early arcs were so much better than wano beginning of wano was hard Ngl but it fell off at the half point
@@ijustbevibin0425 because we learned a lot of stuff and besides you know... after roofpiece luffy became a yonko... thats just me
There are some people who were never punched in their lives, but deserve to. Luffy just corrected one of those mistakes.
Damn right
fr now can i punch you
@@Kareemle Only if I can punch you later, tough guy, no freebies.
@@rafaelstv fine with me
@@Kareemle Good luck.
I love how Luffy didnt use his powers, it was just normal punch, meaning anyone could have done it, but he was the one that came forward and have the guts to touch a celestial dragon.
Yeah He didnt used any gears Luffy has to destroy maryjoa and Beat up some tenryuubito to Show the world that theyre Not Gods or anything
Luffy has monstrous strength tho not anyone can send an obese dude flying like that
@@the_mse That's kinda irrelevant, the point is that Luffy didn't Stretch his arm or used gears, showing that anyone could have done it in order to rebel against the tenryuubito.
@@psic0pat025 yeah but not anyone can do what he does even without his devil fruit.

“Social media made y’all way to comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it”
-Mike Tyson
This punch got so much better right now after the latest chapter. Gonna rewatch it again and again.
Agree. So much more satisfying
0:30 That’s where the “archenemy of the gods” showed his real face… Goosebumps. Law, who was sitting there completely calm, knew it was inevitable, as we learned later in Dressrosa
i feel this is the moment law recognised luffy as a potential ally for him to use later when he attacked doflamingo.
Luffy: 'Now that I have punched one Celestial Dragon, I will punch all of them!"
Doflamingo: sits up from chair
This moment ages like fine wine
Face it, anyone would do it if they had Luffy’s recklessness and bravery.
Which no one has, that's the point.
That's fundamentally not true in the series
@@TheGreatHohenheim didn’t zoro say he would have sliced him up though?
@@kaboom2926 yea before Bonney stopped him

Still one of the most satisfying punches of all time.
Shout out to everybody here after Kuma's flashback ended
man, kuma piece was best ngl
Honestly, after that i feel like this punch was too little. Everyone in the crew should hva got their licks in and leave him a unrecognizable pile of twitching flesh, still alive just so he can suffer.
That punch luffy gave 700 chapters ago keeps getting more and more satisfying.JUSTICE OF GINNY!
Oda did it. He somehow made this even more satisfying.
I want to see how would Kuma Punch play out
One of the best punches in anime as a whole, only Luffy would willingly shoulder the massive price of punching a Celestial Dragon and it didn't matter which side you were on, Luffy got a +1000 points of respect from the sheer insanity of that move and getting away without losing a crew member.
Chapter 1098 brought me back here because I always feel glad to see a Celestial Dragon get punched, giving an angel it's wings, but wishing Luffy hit him harder to Team Rocket off that island.
Man, was Sabaody goated 🐐. The most satisfying iconic punch ever 🔥. First time seeing this was jaw dropping and so hype!! We all know what comes afterwards though 😭. Now our boy Luffy is fighting actual dragons 😅
And he made a kid dragon his friend ;)
ur everywhere
Who's here after Kuma's punch to Saturn
me🤚
Man, hearing Hachi tearing himself apart from guilt never fails to make me drop a tear or two, my poor man is trying is absolute best to be helpful to Nami and the others, I’m happy Luffy is Luffy because that piece of nothing Carlos deserved that punch and more
People need to appreciate Hachi more he was just in agony in this arc.
Mind you this was animated during a time when the one piece’s animation wasn’t all too great, and never really went above passable quality. So the fact that this scene was given this much detail and fluidity, means the animators couldn’t wait to animate this.
Huh you talking smack this was good animation
@@randomplayer9025 that’s what he literally said though?
@@randomplayer9025 may be good by one piece standards but this is average animation
Dude, the arcs were animated a decade and a half ago before this. Saying t is poor animation for a long running series is showing how young you are or how you are just blinded by newer animation.
@@roguejacket and? It's bad animation nonetheless. Long running animes always have bad animation in comparison with short animes
So many years later and this punch still makes me smile
Huh that golden gleam in Luffy's eye at 0:46 is pretty interesting. Could be Oda foreshadowing hundreds of episodes in advance or maybe I'm reading into it too much. Great punch though I love it.
Foreshadowing what though? I don't think you're thinking too much about it. It is Oda, after all lol.
Anyone else is here after seeing Kuma's memories
Had to come here after 1098, this scene truly gets better the further you get into the series.
Dragon hears about it - smiling that smiling that smile he had at Loguetown: "What a reckless idiot my son is..........wish I could have been there to see it......."
"Have you ever been punched so hard the colour left the panel you were drawn on?"
MUGIGOOF REFERENCE, ya love to see it!
Luffy needs to do this to CD after chapter 1098. Poor Kuma
Then all hell breaks loose after he does this
Agreed. The only way it could have gotten worse for everyone was if Sengoku had let Akainu off his leash to deal with the Straw hats instead of sending Kizaru.
One Celestial dragon provocation could set off an all out war.
True... but it was most definitely worth it.
@@tiawheeler1153if it wasn't for Rayleigh and kuma, the straw hats would have been dead by admiral kizaru.
When they animate 1104, this is how they have to do it 1:11
YESSS!!!
Just watched this scene for the first time last night and I was blown away with how incredible it was
I suddenly felt that I needed to comeback and see a Celestial Dragon being punched.
I've come after reading the 1098 chapter to calm down
The one promise Luffy broke and it was so badass.
Catharsis for those whose blood is boiling while reading 1098
This scene is 1000x better after chapter 1098…
This punch means more after Kuma's backstory.
Saturn gonna get punched by Kuma the sameee way
Na luffy is laughing and jumping like bugs bunny now.
Coming back to this after 1098 to feel a little bit better. I hope Luffy gets to punch every single Celestial Dragon in the face at least once.
Man, 10 years later and this is still one of the most satisfying punches in the entire series
Naruto: let's try to understand where they coming from maybe they have a sad past.
Luffy:
to me this is the defining moment for luffy punching out a celestial dragon in the op world sets you apart from every single person on that planet i dont even think roger would have did it
He's the incarnation of Nika of course he wouldn't stand for it.
I love how this single punch changed the rest of their lives
No matter how many times I see this moment it’s always epic
Livin up to that legacy long before any of us knew what it was
Kid and Law might not have respected Luffy as deeply in Wano if not for this moment
I remember watching this on TV live. Was literally on the door to go to church with the family but I wanted to see the end of the episode first. Such an amazing moment in the entire series.
Had to come back after Chapter 1098. Just gonna go ahead and replay this a couple hundred times to recover...
This is easily one of the most iconic moments of One Piece.
And now Kuma is doing the same.
That kuma pannel bring tears to my eyes as it's a callback to this Luffy punch. One piece is just a masterpiece
I had to come watch this after chapter 1098 😢
You know things are serious when an anime character doesn't name their attacks out of rage and anger
Something about Luffy really looks like Dragon in this scene.... Especially the look after the punch.
Probably the most satisfying punch in animation. I can't think of a character who totally deserved getting his lips split more than Charlos.
Every week this punch feels more and more satisfying to watch.
To think the crew is about to fight Kizaru again…
We are most likely going to see a very different ending this time around..
Alright who came back to this after chapter 1104?
This has be the most satisfying punch in anime
One of the most satisfying punches in anime. Hands down.
Here after todays chapter. I want vengeance.
1103 spoilers
I really hope they use the same style to animate Kuma punching Saturn
There’s no way he could punch a whole planet
This scene is the definition of catharsis. You know it brought no good to the Straw Hats, they know it, both Law and Kid knew it. But they all wanted to see it happen because the Celestial Dragons are another level of evil.
This was a life-changing moment for me. I remember consciously making the mental shift to give people what they deserve and not be timid or weak/defenseless anymore. I got into a lot of fights, and started a bunch of fights protecting people in school and it cost me class trips and even the ability to walk the graduation stage. But I wouldn't regret any of it. Thanks, Oda.
Needed to watch this after chapter 1098
Damm, Luffy punched him so hard he didn't reappear for 2+ years!
The first time in hundreds of years someone dared to attack a Celestial Dragon. This moment was when Kuma knew he could have faith that Luffy was the one who will save the world.
How does Oda keep making these classic scenes SO MUCH BETTER?! 😭
When you’re fighting in your dream and *finally* get a solid punch in.
Who's here after reading chapter 1098?
Yo
The punch that costed 2 years. The best and most satisfying punch in anime
After reading the new One Piece chapters (Kuma, Ginny, and Bonney's backstory) I needed to rewatch this to cleanse my palette.
The thing I like about this was that it was the morally right thing to do but the consequences were bad. Few anime would have a moment of the character being morally good punished so severely
After recent chapters , this moment shoots up to probably top 2 greatest moments in anime history . If not 1
Naoki Tate animation on this scene was phenomenal. Insane cut! 🔝
To think kuma was watching
you ever want to talk about a defining moment in one piece, this is it, its not just the well deserved punch, its not luffy meeting Law and Kidd for the first time
its finding out that Hachi hates what he did..... Hachi takes responsibility for all his actions when he was with Arlong, not once does he downplay it, he hates himself for what he put nami through and straight up believes any and all misfortune he goes through is well deserved
he begs luffy not to attack the celestial dragon because he doesn't want luffy and nami to suffer because of him, he'd rather be shot 1000 times then let them go through that
so when people ask me what moment breaks my heart the most? this is top 3 simply because Hachi like Bon-chan would rather suffer then let harm come to the strawhats, Hachi would rather suffer the most painful death if it meant he could make it up to Nami for all he put her through
Dude don’t even, I always cry ugly tears when I hear him absolutely tearing himself apart from guilt.
What makes the punch even more satisfying is that there was nothing Charlos could do. Just utterly defenseless against a devil fruit. Cuz when u think about he is just a guy who got punched VERY hard. So hard it re arranges his jaw.
Crazy how a warlord was watching the aftermath...
I cannot wait till the straw hats go their stupid little castle
Had to drop in here after chapter 1098
Whos after 1104 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kuma’s punch to gorosei better be something like this imo
he used observation haki without the haki sound XD
Luffy’s unnamed rage punches are my favorite. He did the same thing with Bellamy
Every time i reach an episode with a celestial dragon i just return to this
im here cause of cp 1098
The greatest thing about this is that these guys thought no one would've been stupid or crazy enough to do that. And boy did Luffy seriously prove them wrong
One of my absolute favorite scenes in in whole series. The punch felt all over the One Piece world 🤛
Its crazy how much this one punch changed the trajectory of one piece forever
Watching this after chapter 1098 just trying to feel better
Justice for ginny , these scumbags need to go
Bellamy: Dont worry pal the pain goes away in a couple days but the memories last a lifetime
Here After Reading the Kuma Backstory Flashback I'm just Here cause I needed to see A Celestial Dragon punched after that Heart breaking chapter
I feel like people fail to feel the full weight of this punch. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s one of the most hyped scenes in the series. But THIS is what changed everything when you think about it on a deeper level. This single decision showed Luffy that the world isn’t so simple. Really just goes to show the influence of the Celestial Dragons.
Still was one of luffys bad decisions that worked out awesome
Considering the backstory we get right after this, I'd argue that Luffy probably already knew the situation with the Celestial Dragons specifically better than we knew at that point.
This wasnt the first time they'd hurt, or even the first time they'd shot someone close to him. He'd seen what they were like already, even when we'd only just caught a glimpse.
Part of this scene and why he doesnt use his powers here is probably an explicit statement that, even if last time it happened he couldnt do anything about it, any normal person could hurt these guys, no matter how much better they believe themselves to be.
Luffy's got that class consciousness baby!
Friendly reminder that the first time, chronologically, Luffy heard of/saw a Celestial Dragon was when one seemingly killed Sabo.
And when another one has shot someone he called friend in front of him? Was there any other possible response?
very possible
