    We have one cloudberries puzzle and the paper peels off the top of ours too very easily. We bought the puzzle brand new and put it together twice. I find the pieces get stuck very easily in false or incorrect fits and when we undo the piece we connected, the paper peeling gets damaged. Both times we put the puzzle together, I think I had to repair 10-15 pieces with glue.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh no!!! That's really disappointing and a significant number of pieces needing to be repaired. I puzzle should be able to be assembled several times before falling apart. My vintage Springbok is still in pristine condition! I guess they just don't make them like they use to...

    I also have some issues with cloudberries. The texture of the pieces makes the puzzle dust stick to them and so they look dirty and it’s hard to clean them. Also yes, lots of 2ins 2outs and there are lots of false fits. The pieces aren’t very unique shaped. Their images can be great, the gradient is one of my faves but lots of trouble with the above problems. Too expensive to buy very many unless on major sale.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was lucky that I didn't have any puzzle dust - most likely because it was secondhand and had already been done. I agree - I would not be paying full price for any more but do love many of their images. 💜🧩

      I'm sad to read you have had the same issue but also glad that it wasn't just me. I always worry when I give a critique on something that it might just be a one-off and not truly valid across the brand. But from all the comments here, many have had problems. A few haven't though which is good. But I have to agree, I won't be paying full price for them and am not in any rush to go out and buy more, at least not at this time. 💜🧩

      That is from Ravensburger, 5000 pieces and is titled Antique World Map. I have the front and back glued with a few coats of Matte Mod Podge (yellow bottle), and then framed (no glass). It's really quite light - glass would have added too much weight. 💜🧩

    I love Cloudberries puzzles 🤩. They have some of my favorite pieces, I just like the way they feel and the way they snap together 😁.
    I have NEVER experienced the pieces pealing like that 😮. I have heard other people having problems with false fits, including in the comments here, but it's never been an issue I have experienced with Cloudberries 🤔. I keep being fascinated by how different experiences we all can have with the same brands 😉. I must admit that I hate the full size posters in Cloudberries puzzles... I love a good poster, but full size is just to much and way to impractical! I have nowere to put it while doing the puzzle, so I end up not using it at all 😔.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so pleased to read you have not had any issues and have done many of their puzzles. I do worry that the dampness we have here in NZ is not a great thing for anything made of paper. For example, puzzles stored in a damp warehouse for a period of time before going to store and being sold. I agree that the poster ended up being way too big. I didn't use it either apart from sorting the colours out on it. 💜🧩

    Thank you for your honest review of the brand. I only own 3 and I have not being able to build one yet. They are pricey in the States too. I tend to like brands that have radom pieces better with busier images. One of the Clouberries I own is the 500 pieces gradient, Oh boy! The other 2 puzzles have busier images in collage style. Sorry to hear about the false fits, it can be frustrating, especially because Cloudberries are so expensive to get in New Zealand.

    I loved it! So good that you did it square by square 🤩👌🏻 Also thank you for teaching me a new word - two prong pieces. I never know what to say so I always end up with 'two ins and two outs' 😂🙈 Such a shame on the quality tho! I wish I could help, but I don't get Cloudberries here 😬

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use "two prong standard" for the most common piece that we all know and "two prong adjacent" for the other one. For the rest, I call them "no prong", "one prong", "three prong or castle" and finally "four prong". Not sure why but I've always called them this. Thanks for the idea for the challenge. 💜🧩

    It's a beautiful image but disappointing about the false fits and piece quality - I hate false fits! I hope the second Cloudberries puzzle is better!

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles

      I think the smell I had was from the plastic resealable bags. Now that they've been opened and aired out, I can't really smell anything anymore. Let 2023 bring us NO MORE FALSE FITS! hehehehe 💜🧩

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I now think the smell was from those plastic bags that the first owner gave with the puzzle. The smell pretty much has all dissipated. I love their images but was disappointed with the issues I had. I do wonder if the way it was stored had an empty - NZ can be quite damp and moisture is not good for paper. Glad you have never had any issues. I’m still excited to do my second one. 💜🧩

  • @Kotuku
    @Kotuku ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was really interesting. That's a real shame about the splitting. I heard a trick: that fine medical tape they use to hold stitches together can be used to tape lifted layers down. Works great. Also, if they come scented then I never, ever will buy one from that brand. But I doubt it. The previous owner was just a perfume wearer.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I have confirmed that they don't come scented. I asked the previous owner and they hadn't smelled anything. I think it was a sweet smell from the plastic resealable bags that they included - which don't come with the new puzzle. I enjoyed the smell though but now it's pretty much gone. 💜🧩

  • @MathIsMagical
    @MathIsMagical ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t have any cloudberries puzzles but the splitting could be caused by the environment they were stored in by their previous owners and not the brand. Like if it was super dry or very humid environment. Just a thought no real way to tell.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว

      That could definitely be an issue here in NZ as we have a lot of dampness. I can imagine that a puzzle or anything made of paper would have issues if stored in a damp house or storage for a period of time. I can only imagine the warehouse storage areas for many retailers are perhaps not the best temperature and moisture controlled. 💜🧩

    Nobody talks about how awful the Cloudberries puzzle cut is. The false fits are legion. In a picture with a lot of variety, its not as bad, but for instance their puzzle “Fossil” is a frustrating nightmare. And you had a nice seller - the pieces come in one bag and they don’t smell like anything.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't able to find an image online of their "Fossil" puzzle - but I can imagine just hoe tricky it would be and the potential for many false fits. I'm hoping that my second one "Epicurean" won't be as bad. I know that I'll still enjoy doing it but at least now my expectations won't be as high. • @nonreactionary
    @nonreactionary ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i also have found the piece quality and fit to be sub-par with Cloudberries. it’s such a shame because the packaging and images are absolutely top notch. i knew i was in for trouble when literally hundreds of the pieces would be stuck in pairs just from the box randomly moving around while digging for pieces. if two pieces can fit together without my hands even touching them the false fits are guaranteed. and once they are together i dreaded pulling each one apart because half of them would de-laminate and i would spend time gluing so many tabs back together. such a shame. so probably no more cloudberries for me unless they somehow figure that problem out. their images are to die for but i won’t be investing any more money into it.
    loved the video! that specific puzzle was very difficult for me but so beautiful.

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Delaminate" that's the word I was looking for!!! I knew there was a better way to express what I was experiencing and kept saying "split" and "separate" But they were in fact delaminating. I'm sorry to read you have not had the best experience either. Thinking back now, I also had a lot of piece stick together in the box and had a difficult time separate many - which also caused delamination. I do love so many of their images though just like you, but don't want to pay full price - especially as they are quite expensive here in NZ. I'm sure I'll still enjoy doing the Epicurean - at least I hope so. 💜🧩

    I love how you laid all of the sorted pieces out on their matching image on the poster.
    Thanks for being honest about your cloudberries experience.
    My first Cloudberries was Feast and then 1000 gradient. I’m pretty sure I didn’t have any major problems with feast, 1000 gradient however did throw me the disappointment due to the false fits and peeling. TBH it wasn’t horrendous, and none peeled as badly as yours have, but noticeable enough to be annoying and make me doubt the brands higher end of the puzzle market position, (if you get what I mean!). I then did 2000 gradient which was similar to 1000 in quality/fit etc, but I kind of knew what to expect.
    I then moved on to do Symmetry, (1000) and Reflection, (2000), and the puzzling experience was so much fun that I didn’t really feel disappointed or notice any major issues. I know there was some false fits but not as bad as the gradients.
    Things I love - artwork, originality and finish, (the way the pieces fit together and look really flat, if that makes sense!)
    Things that annoy me - lack of more interesting piece shapes, false fits and peeling more noticeable than other brands, especially in gradient images.
    I have only bought brand new, so can’t really say about trying them second hand. Due to them being more pricey, (and I’m fortunate to live in the uk), I only buy a few at once when they have offers, and make sure they qualify for free shipping, to justify their cost. I bought 2 In Nov and got to pick a third for free. Which I thought was a pretty good deal!
    It will be interesting to see how Epicurean turns out.
    😊❤

      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate your comment and sharing your experience. I couldn't agree with you more. I have a feeling the Epicurean won't have many false fits just do to the image and not needing to try the same piece in multiple possible locations - like in the gradient one. I always worry that if I have something negative to say about a brand that it may just be my one-off experience. But from the comments, seems like a lot of people have had similar experiences. I definitely won't be rushing out to buy a lot, especially not at full price. Do love the artwork though which bums me out a bit as I want to want to buy more. (Hope that makes sense.) 💜🧩

    Lovely puzzle even though you had problems with the pale colours. 🧩 No they do not come scented, that may have been something to do with where the puzzles had previously been. New puzzles do not come with a resealable bag, just the normal that you have to break. I have done three 500 and ten 1000 Cloudberries so quite a few. The piece quality is usually very good, it may be that the one you did had been done a few times already. It's usually obvious if the piece doesn't go where you think it does. I agree they do tend to have a lot of the standard two in/two out pieces but as you said, you can tell which way they go. One good thing about new Cloudberries is that the dust is virtually non-existent. I've enjoyed all the ones I have done but some are trickier than others to do. With the Egyptology one I did, I left the outside until the end, it's very tricky. Have a look for an image of that and you will see what I mean. Look forward to your next video. 😊😊

    • @fortheloveofpuzzles
      @fortheloveofpuzzles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering about puzzle dust as there wasn't a single speck of it in my puzzle. But I couldn't tell if that was standard or due to the fact that it was a secondhand puzzle - already been assemble. I just looked up the "Egyptology" puzzle and yes, that edge/border would be the trickiest to do!! Definitely would need to do last. I'm glad you have had such good experience with the brand. I'm hoping my separating pieces were a one-off. I'll still enjoy doing the second one that I have from them. 💜🧩
