Good evening from the Uk. In the Uk I do spend a little more on my dear Russian wife, but to be honest the cost is not really important it’s the way the gift is giving and the thought that goes with the present that is most important. A good smile and a hug is worth a great deal more.

Many Americans go crazy at Christmas time. Perfumes, gold jewelry, cameras, computers, TV's, you name it, and we buy it. Here in our country $97 dollars may cover the cost of just one gift. Love your videos and thanks for sharing.

I usually give my two grown sons money or gift cards. Sometimes both. It’s hard to choose. I give them warm winter wear as well. My daughter I give money and cosmetics. My son Ryan is married and they have a daughter. I gave them this year a projector. You can show movies indoors or outdoors. We give Christmas presents. We don’t give New Year presents. I love your videos. I enjoy learning about Russia. Thank you.

I love watching your videos you are an honest down-to-earth person we like that we in America been way too much money at Christmas I would say we generally spend more money on small children than the adults but every year it's always a lot you have a good New Year thank you

Thank you Ksenia. Our family gives one gift for adults because my family believes that Christmas presents should only be for children, the magic of Christmas. Some years we draw names and put a limit on spending for exmple, we can't spend more than $250 for the name we drew (adult names only) we still buy many gifts for the children.

Loved going shopping with you. In the U.S. we give gifts to our family and friends on Christmas Day, or Christmas Eve, if it’s your family’s tradition. It looks just like New Years in Russia😁 But, we celebrate it in December. We give gifts of soaps, shampoos, creams, etc, but we call it “ stocking stuffers.” Everyone gets a Christmas stocking filled with small gifts and treats. Then, depending on what the person has been wanting, we buy, clothing, jackets, tech stuff, whatever we can afford. When we visit friends and neighbors, we take them candies, cookies, homemade breads. Our New Years is big football games on TV, and food. And sleeping off the hangover we got partying the night before lol 😝

Having a birthday close to Christmas in the UK is not necessarily a Good Thing. As a child, you usually got a combined present on Christmas Day and zilch on the birthday. This means, as the years roll on, you tended to downgrade the importance of birthdays and, as an adult, almost ignore them. Then later in life you marry and expect your other half to have the same view. After missing her birthday for two years I soon learned to change that view :)

For women's gifts I often buy candles, soaps, and costume jewely made by local artisans selling in small town shops. For men I buy a tshirt with a theme they like, such as a car, boating, fishing, or space. This year I also commissioned a company to put a photo or photos of my choosing on pillows, coffee mugs and small blankets. I added chocolates to each package of gifts too. My sons are adults now, but when they were growing up of course they received all sorts of toys, bicycles, books, and clothing.

Hello here in Australia Gift prices range from the very simple to the more expensive. I buy for everybody in my family which is about 16 people and then I buy for my closest friends, a couple of work colleagues, my hairdresser, beautician and for some people that I know that don't have anybody to give them anything at Christmas. I spend more on my mum and then around $50 for each other person which maybe sometimes a little bit cheaper for the kids. I do my Christmas shopping throughout the whole year and it usually starts with the sales straight after Christmas and New year. This year most of my presents are from The body Shop which is where you went to also! I even bought myself a couple little gifts out of their catalogue for the Christmas season this year. As always I really enjoy your video and wish you and your family a very very happy New year. I also work full-time and live alone so I do look forward to your videos and some others that I have found on TH-cam. Blessings for peace and happiness to you and your family.

Amazon is the only place I shop...crowds are not a good idea anymore ..nor malls..to much crime...Pick gifts out on Amazon, and they wrap & ship it..Done and done...Loved your video as always ...Really nice mall and gifts...Jesus is the reason for the season...Jesus the precious baby who became a man to save the world and give eternal life..AMEN..Greatest GIFT OF ALL.. I was born in 1955 and my raising was the same way.. you don't going to someone's house for a holiday with empty hands.. actually anytime someone invites you over you always take something.. whether it be a flower or a bushel of flowers or a plant or candy..cookies homemade .. or something.. that's proper manners... for New Year we used to get together and watch the ball drop in New York but that was years ago when they had good decent bands ..now it's all of the young people and their music....not enjoyable..but I'm usually asleep before the new year comes in ..we don't really gather with anyone here for New Years.. it's more of a Thanksgiving and Christmas gathering..🎉🎉🎄🎄🧑‍🎄🤶🎅

In our family any gifts to adults are small like premium chocolate or wine. Of course spouses give and get more generous gifts. My grandkids that are still in school get cash even though I don't like to do that. I prefer to give memorable items. For expensive gifts, I usually do not give those as Christmas gifts but privately at another time. I love the Christmas season spent with my extended family. We decorate our houses inside and outside. Your city decorations are quite beautiful too. Happy New Year!

In Canada we traditionally say " MERRY CHRISTMAS" this time of year
    - my family doesn't buy big presents for Christmas, as an example this year I bought my grown child some pyjamas, an echo dot and specialty flavoured oil. Then some stuff to fill their stocking.
So nice you are able to buy those generous gifts for your family

Excellent video, I loved the lights. In New Zealand we gift sweets, and small gifts just the same as you have shown. We celebrate with food and family so we all bring sweet treats to share. Our son who is 15y is getting new shoes (NIKE) expensive but 1 big gift and small stuff like sox, underware, his favourite treats. We as a family have brought flights to travel to see distant family in Feburary so a small family holiday away then. We have pets so they get a special Xmas treat as well. Its summer here so a day around the BBQ playing at the beach is how we will spend our holiday period. Merry Christmas and Happy new Year to you X (Sue Schofield)

For Christmas I exchange small gifts with my friends. My sisters and I don’t buy anything for one another any more, but I do often make a small homemade treat for them ( this year I made them each a package of some different flavoured hot chocolate bombs). For my Nieces and nephews I give them money. Now that they’re teenagers that’s what they want. It’s not as fun as buying them something but it’s easier. Now my husband I usually spoil with lots of different gifts, it’s so much fun! Happy New Year to you and your family.

We enjoyed your video once again, thank you for that, we are really interested in visiting S Petersburg but my wife says maybe not in winter . We are a family of immigrants living in California. To mexicans, Dic 24 is way more important than Christmas because that’s when most of the gathering is done, when the presents are exchanged and food and drinks flow in abundance. The 25th is just to recover from it all. Toys for the grandkids, gift cards for our sons and wives and for my wife headphones for her cell phone. Our best wishes to you and your family in this holiday season.

Sometimes if you have a really big family and you all get together for Christmas , we draw names. We put all of the men's names in a hat and put women's names in another hat. Men draw from the men's hat and women draw from womens hat. The kids do the same by age group. This helps to not break your wallet. We draw names at Thanksgiving. But it's also a secret. You don't know who got your name till Christmas when you open your gift. But other than that alot of Americans give gift certificates to favorite stores of restaurants.

Thanks for a great video and taking us shopping with you! I live in Minnesota, US and we have a little Russian store and bakery nearby. Watching your video gave me a good idea to go there and buy some of their candies and maybe something from their bakery. I've gotten candies from there before and my family that I will be with really liked them. Interestingly a lot of the chocolates had liqueur in them! They tasted amazing, but I don't drink alcohol, so really didn't want to eat too many. My adult kids will enjoy them, so I am glad I was reminded of those candies by watching you.

In the States, I give different gifts… money and gift cards to my children… some costume jewelry and clothing. For a dear friend, I chose a notebook and lip product. I gave my aunts books. Just a variety.
I’m a bit worried about you after some things I’ve seen on the news, especially close to Belarus. Could you do a video and explain if you and your family are safe or being impacted? Prayers for your safety!

Ksenia, seems like St P(Russia) has many malls ready to take rubles from people for winter holiday(just like the west).
I did not know Halva was popular outside Europe,(Spain seems to produce huge blocks in December, very tasty and inexpensive), kudos to you mother for good taste or is it just a sweet tooth?
Brothers are a pain to buy for at any time.
Your use of the idiom is improving, do you interpret on the fly or research?
Have a good end of year festival and best wishes to you and your family for 2022.

Here in Italy we usually buy the same gifts you showed us and you bought for your relatives, such as sweets, perfumery products, toys for children but also money. For example I have a 19 y.o. niece and I will give him some money, so that he can buy what he likes best. You are really a nice girl who takes care of her family and I think you have chosen the right presents for your family. Thank you for this great video. I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas (even if in Russia is less important than the 31st) and a Happy New Year

Thank you for another great video. In America we celebrate Christmas more than New year's. I live in Texas and I try to find something to give as presents that the person will love. The price isn't a factor on my decision. I try to put a lot of thought into what I'm giving. My wife is getting a robot vacuum and her favorite perfume and my two boys are getting tools. They are pushing 20 so they don't want toy's. Tool's and welding supplies.

We usually don’t give big gifts since we give each other all year. Small gift cards if anything at all.

Can you show a video of your family on Christmas Day celebrating?

    • @Natashanjka

Russians don't celebrate Christmas, it's only a church holiday. People can go to the church on that day, but they don't celebrate it it too actively at their homes.

Hi Ksenia! I’m a subscriber of yours foe a longtime and enjoy watching all your videos. I don’t comment a lot but I watch all of your videos. I enjoy learning about the Russian culture from you. Thanks for all your videos and keep up the great work. Btw what does kaka mean? I saw a store sign in your video where the second word was Kaka, which is funny to me because in German kaka means poo poo 😅

    • @Natashanjka
      @Natashanjka 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Seriously? In Russian, Kaka is a word for children. We use it to let a child know that something is bad and dirty as a poop. And I can't imagine something here that could be named Kaka

I buy my mum a calendar, this year my dad wanted a new cover for his phone & I got my brother a concert ticket. Nothing very expensive, just small things they want/need. My mum's birthday is January 1st, so I have a card & present for her birthday too

Hi Ksenia! We celebrate Christmas eve in Lithuania more than Christmas day. With traditional foods and gifts. I mostly buy things for my family what they need. Don't matter about costs. It might be some small cosmetics or some kitchen appliances. By the way I love Natura Siberica cosmetics. We have this store in my country too. And you can find some products in Ireland as well. But its very overpriced. I often send them to me from home.
Very pleasant to watch busy and decorated city in your video. And have a nice Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

This year I bought an air fryer for my mom, and a tracksuit for my dad. I sent an ebook to my best friend, who moved away a few months ago. As he hasn't an official address yet, going electronic was the best option, lol. His gift for me was a t-shirt with a yakuza cat on it. Not exactly my style, but it's a cool illustration. I think I'll frame it instead of wearing it. All in all I reckon I spent about 110 bucks, so a pretty cheap Christmas. When I was a kid I can guarantee that my parents spent a lot more for me 😆.
