This reminds me of my younger days buying clapped out 90's cars and trying to resurrect them with nothing but a shoestring and a dream. Good times and tons of lessons learned. Decent S-chassis haven't really been affordable or available here in Canada for many years so I'm stoked to see one with a ton of potential in good hands.
I graduated high school in 2002 and had 2 ae86 that I bought for 1000 together and killed them both in the winter 2003 then I got my 1st 240sx sohc it think it was a 1990. Then kill that trying to drift the mountain passes of salt lake county, Utah. It had tein coil overs and welded diff. I got that car for 800 bucks. Alot of us young drivers also just didn't know that the cool jdm cars would disappear from us not respecting what we had.
It’s happened all over the world, only some countries have started to pick up on it but it does suck.. the amount of Jdm cars I’ve seen wrecked is shit
Who doesn’t love Chelsea he is honestly the most honest upfront calls out all the BS Driver/human there is around. You either love him or your an idiot. We need more people like him. The drifting car world would be a better place. Wishing you all the success and happiness in 2023. Happy New Year
I ve been a huge fan of ur content Chelsea, the amount of accurate useful information you provide, combined with funny banter, just awesome, happy new year rooting for you from slovakia! Please keep the uploads up! Much love🇸🇰
If you are missing stuff hit up Jimmy oaks he just went through all of his old parts he might have something you need. Glad you are making content though, you have been my favorite driver for years now and I'm super excited to see what you do outside of fd. Not that I don't want to see that content anymore just nice to see I different side of you. Much love.
I’m here for it. Looks like a pretty good 240. Most of them are busted to hell and back and/or total rust buckets. If you guys do ever paint or wrap it - I’d love to see it back in misty blue. The platinum blue is sick too.
A ecoboost in the hatch when your done getting the parts would be pretty cool I love how your mustang sounds with it and ruby with bright red flake would be neat too
i have a s13 coupe sitting in the driveway. been there for like 3 years. Got it, fixed the rust, got SLIGHTLY rear ended, and its been sitting because building these things are MONEYYY
I have just been trying to upscale some REALLLLLLY old video of my silver S13 taken from an old phone. I then get recommended this in youtube lol. Awesome :)
Chelsea that diff is from a s13 with hicas, they came with abs sensor on diff snout. Also comes with VLSD. And that's a s13 black top sr20det (has the ribs in front of timing cover.)
At this point building any of the cars we enjoy. S chassis, e chassis etc. It is going to be expensive. Today's builds are nothing like what we were building in 2003 and the cars cost 5x to 10x the cost. Regardless good luck with the build.
As far as i know, the 3x2 bolt drive shaft flange is pretty normal for an s13, at least in germany. But no, its not a german diff, because the german s13 recived a diff coller from nissan. The subframe is also s13, because the s13 subframe is the only one, which has 4 rear bolting points for the diff. As far as i know S14/15, r32/33/34, z32/33/34 just have 2 bolting points at the rear.
240's have suffered from the "drift tax" for so long. In my area it is damn near impossible to find any decent ones for a reasonable price and if you want a stock one you will be paying a premium. This happens all the time - e36 bmw's are now suffering from this as well where I am at as are early 2000's vette's, miata's, foxbody mustangs, anything JDM. There is also what I call the youtube tax on certain cars (usually happens when a multi-million sub channel comes out with a video being like -""these are the last cheap, best (insert car) of this out there" then you will see an extremly quick price spike.)
Even all the bare, smashed up, drift shells will probably be restored at some point. I told Aaron Losey he's sitting on a retirement gold mine of chassis'ssss. He thinks it's all scrap, and technically, they are.. but when did that stop anybody 😂
@Chelsea DeNofa exactly. Thankfully builds are becoming much higher quality now that the drift missile craze is over so now the remaining ones skyrocketed in price so ppl will hopefully treat them better
Love the troll on 240s.. should have went there with the “fb marketplace values on every little piece u found in the vehicle” 😂 Love it can’t wait for more, and I wanna see a 3.5 ecoboost in the notch but heard they don’t like high rpm dumps.. that true?
They look cool. They're fun to work on. INSANE aftermarket support. They're lightweight. They're easy to swap. Their heritage runs deep. They dominated the OG drift scene in the early 90's. They dominated the professional drift scene in the early 2000's. Any fan of JDM cars remembers 100 legendary builds. In stock form they're junk, which gives them that lovable underdog charm. They have an endless parts interchange with RB-powered cars. I could go on but won't because I know you've got to be trolling.
@@RearWheelZeal Not trolling at all. I knew several people that owned these cars back in the 90s. You said it yourself. These cars are pretty junky and nearly all of the were turned further into trash by misguided young people. I'm sure there are some nice examples out there somewhere but I swear every single one of them in the PNW is just hammered dog shit. I am not a JDM guy at all and never have been. Well except for that one time I had a mint non trashed Integra GSR. I will say that you have reminded me once again by mildly calling me out that I do need to be more positive about all aspects and kinds of automotive enthusiasts because many of todays youth don't give a crap about cars and before too long there's a good chance cool cars will die off and everyone will be forced to drive an appliance.
First car back in 2013 was an S14 Zenki all stock with a clutch welded diff and coils for $1700. I went on to own 4 more S13's all running and driving and didn't pay a dime over $2200 for any of them. Wish I stashed one away so I could've built it over time but I had other priorities. I love these cars but they're pieces of shit and the market has been way out of hand for so long now.
thats a vlsd diff cover. the drain is in the bottom and has cooling fins and a little more capacity. open diff cover has the drain the middle of the cover and makes a mess. driveshafts are specific to abs and non abs diffs
I just sold mine for 4k and bought it for 6, put almost 4 into it. Don't buy an s chassis unless it's super clean and has very little issues, no rust, no frame damage, nothing. They are money pits just like the ae86.
I WANT THIS CAR! It's only a little molested and has a heart of gold! That's just my type. One weekend I would have her cleaned up and feeling good about herself. Three months later she will be out of my league but hopefully still love me!
Also it’s not 100% but more than likely that’s a Black top SR. It’s got the vertical casting marks on the front of the head just below the valve cover. That’s a late model SR thing. It’s not for sure because there was some cross over but more than likely it’s a blacktop
Man I can't wait to build my first drift car. I crashed my other car and split it into 2 somehow lived 😄 glad I did because 6 months from now I can work again and ima save money and hope I can save enough for a build
Always disliked the hatches but I also just randomly came across a complete bone stock 89 hidden away here in Texas I will likely buy. Really crazy to think how things have changed in terms of cost and availability of clean stock examples.
Dang makes me miss my hatch that was platinum blue metallic, feel so bad because it was such a clean car when I got it and then I did all the dumb drift things, threw black over fenders on the front, rolled the fenders and of course buckled the the quarter panel. Who wants to trade a hatch for my Kouki S14?
I appreciate the content, I genuinely wanted to see you two build a 240. But what I get is 90% of a video pointed at your face instead of the car. I don't watch videos about 240's to look at your head, show the bloody car!
4:42 thats a j30 vlsd with a s13 cover

Imagine if cash for clunkers never happened. There'd probably be a lot more 80-90s cars still around for parts and whatever

I only got interested in cars maybe 5/6 years ago I really regret not getting into cars when I was younger and in high school back in the 00s
Back in the ‘90 my dad as to make a choice : a brand new e36 323i or a brand new S13 with the CA18DET
He witnessed rust holes in a 1 year old S13 so…
10:42 the shift knob jiggling when it starts cracked me up
Definitely a clean example of a 240. Please tell me there is gonna be a build series on it, like yall did with the fox
clean 😅🤣
@@icedoutshef have you seen northern examples? It's straight and has a floor. That's good enough

love seeing and finding old 240 builds! 240sx archeology
Hope there’s a full build series on this. N you roll it down the road to the compound n Chelshe paints it in Adams paint booth.
Seeing Chelsea turn the wobbly wheel made me lol.

Its a redtop SR20det you can tell cause it doesnt have VTC

That differential most likely came from a HICAS s13. They came with both ABS and high capacity cover.
Step in right direction for the channel bro I’ll be watching the build series for sure, your humour is relatable haha makes for a good watch, cheers 🎉
The trueno trying to rest at the end then watching a dilapidated 240 roll closer and closer: 👁👄👁
Inside of this is how every S-chassis I've ever bought LOL
LOVING IT!!!!

Happy wife happy life, oh and happy new year happy people. There you happy?
I wonder if anyone will want to restore these in the future the same way they do old muscle cars
I think we’re already living some of that
Yeah there's literally an oem+ resto thread on zilvia. there's a lot of guys that own them and keep them stock.
Even all the bare, smashed up, drift shells will probably be restored at some point. I told Aaron Losey he's sitting on a retirement gold mine of chassis'ssss. He thinks it's all scrap, and technically, they are.. but when did that stop anybody 😂
I’m starting my job next week at a hot rod/auto body shop and old jdm cars becoming more rare is the exact reason I want to learn.

Love your dog, she is very wise

Sharp cars. Fun cars. Could be better but that's any 80s and 90s cars. I say this as an owner of 4 80s cars and 1 90s truck.

Damn that sounds rough. Ok I gotta go to work now.
This reminds me of buying an s13 back in the day for 500 bucks that "ran like shit" dude had plug wires backwards and ran MINT 😂
10:34 Adjustable steering wheel. 😬
Strong aubrey plaza vibes from lady chelsea. 10:45
Looks like a pretty good one
this content is going be fire please give us a wee car tour see old school mustang in the corner
That thing is sick tho
You should build a coyote s chasis
no

As a good husband you NEED to totally fix this car to the max for your wife. 😉👍
thats a 3x2 4 bolt rear cover subframe pretty sure its out of a r32 cause chasis 2 bolt correct if wrong
I believe that diff is a factory S13 HICAS diff it’s VLSD
Always good to build an S chassis. Hit me up brother if you need a hydro mount for it. Would be happy to send you all one for the build.
As someone just trying to BUY an s13 for 2023 and build a stage rally car, I want to prove thumbnail Pup wrong.
If you need a sr maf I have a few and local 😂
That car is a survivor

You didn't even mention the dual battery set up already in place in the trunk for when you throw out that SR for the diesel swap
Wait until you see Stanza'a going across Barrett...
11:50 Now that's some #240shit
I don’t care what you paid for that, it was worth it since it came with that genuine Nardi.
Those are S15 diffs and axles I believe
Hey I'm restoring my wife's s13 hatch right now as well. It's been sitting for the past 13 years. I might need some parts from your donor.
like a rotary machine
10:31 lmao how do people break steering wheels like that
Love her Style...!
when are you drifting the classic stang Chelsea
So this is gonna sound weird lol but thats my buddys old 240 and you also bought my other buddies cummins swapped obs ford awhile ago
That is crazy haha
It’s a small world sometimes.
Damn I'm jelly... A nice 240 was my dream car growing up, and they seem just as unattainable now that I'm near 40.
Great video.
zilvia was fixed last time i checked so much 240 info on there
epic video
I also got stock rolled fenders isn’t unbelievable 😂
So what kinda LS are you gonna swap into it?👀
That’s a pretty nice 240 speaking on the cash for clunkers my buddy James sold a super nice red 240
dang i have the exact same chilton manual for 75-81 lol

Who wants to trade a hatch for my Kouki S14?
1 into 2 SKIIIIRT 🤣
The crazy thing is someone would buy that shell and put on parts from a crashed car on it.
Yea that’s why we will sell it as a roller for someone to have a clean car to build
