      It's nice to see the Battle of Britain portrayed with early model Spitfires and Hurricanes that aren't available in the IL-2 Great Battles simulator. It's too bad Cliffs of Dover doesn't simulate the rocket cables (and barrage balloons?) - that would be something to see. The Chain Home Radar towers looked good. I love seeing the vintage photos compared with the animation. The maps are helpful but the aircraft icons seem oversized and their 180° snap turns look odd. Your narration was informative. Very entertaining. Nice job.

    Absolutely stunning presentation! My father was serving in the RAF, stationed at Biggin Hill during this time. In common with most servicemen, he hardly ever spoke about it. Your video has brought out in a vivid way what he and countless other men and women suffered. He was an LAC, and served as ground crew, at one time digging out an air raid shelter that had suffered a direct hit from a bomb. As his son, I salute all members of the armed forces who saved our country in the Second World War.....

    Really, really well put together - a scholarly matching of original photographs to the high-end recreations. Excellent stuff. I think it was later on this day that a bf110 on its way back from Croydon was brought down in our tiny Sussex hamlet- one of our original neighbours was the old retired miller, who still had various cockpit instruments and belt ammunition he and his brother had managed to "liberate" before the Home Guard showed up!

    Yeah, it's really good (I gave it a thumbs up) but anyone watching this absolutely must read Alfred Price's book _'The Hardest Day'._ I think it was Price who coined the name. The book was written in the late 1970s and is full of interviews with people now long gone. Good as this is, you must read the book. It's some of the best narrative history I've ever read.

    • @fightersweep

      Agreed. Fantastic book that I must have read seven or eight times. It was the first book I read on the battle aged 12/13 and it still remains my favourite. A few years ago, I picked up a hardback copy that had been signed by Harry Newton and Gunther Unger on their return to Kenley in 1978.

    • @timonsolus
      @timonsolus หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. The narrator didn't mention that Oblt. Schroeder ordered his Gruppe to stay up high, while he attacked the unsuspecting Hurricane squadron completely alone - correctly calculating that a single 109 was much less likely to be spotted approaching the British formation from behind.
      Schroeder attacked the last Hurricane in formation, shooting it down before the pilot could warn his squadron over the radio. He then repeated the process another 3 times before the remaining British pilots realised what was happening and broke in all directions, prompting the other 109s to pounce on them. Incredible!

    The recreations were well done, and the historical images were a nice touch.
    Looking forward to the next instalment.
    The only thing that annoyed me a little bit, was how you called the BF-110 a "one-one-zero".
    Why not just say "one-ten"?
    It rolls off the tongue better.
    I mean, we pretty much all call the 109 a "one-o-nine", not a "one-zero-nine".
    Anyway that aside, great work! 😉👍

    A very interesting, informative and absorbing video, the combination of simulation and historical photos makes all the difference from other videos of a similar nature but without the photographs it doesn’t come to life or give any real context to the story. Having said that I must take issue with the German Pilots claim that they approached the target at 5 (five) meters above the ground, that is only in the region of 16 (sixteen) feet, either the Luftwaffe were using a top secret Terrain Following Radar (T.F.R) that we never knew about, their altimeters were wrong, Nazi propaganda machine at work or the newspaper got it wrong, tbh if they had said 50 (fifty) meters I would have been very impressed as that is only around 80 (eighty) feet high, I suspect that the “fog of war” probably had a hand in the mistaken perception of altitude. Still an excellent video, thank you. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇦🇮🇱
