Tell of 303rd, Fighter pilots from Poland in the Battle of Britain, guarding the skies if the isle... Great animation, thank you for honoring these heroes!
My late Mother served with 303 Squadron as a WAAF in WW2. She told me they were the Maddest & Most Committed 'Gentlemen'. Any 303 Squadron follower should read the book 'For Your Freedom And Ours'.
I met one of the pilots in the 1990's. He was working as a gardener on occasion for my partners Dad in Forres Scotland. My partner had told me he'd been in the RAF. So, I walked up to him saying 'I heard you were in the RAF in the War.' 'Yes a fighter pilot.' I did the only thing I could think of.....stood up straight properly saluted him, shook his hand then said THANK-YOU. We had a little chat, but when Edith and me went to drive off he came around the house to wave goodbye........I wondered if anyone else had ever thanked him.
For the first time I get to be the person with a personal connection to one of these sorts of videos. My grand father was a Medical Officer in 303 Squadron having moved to England from Poland early in the war. Sadly he passed when I was very young so I never had an opportunity to get to know him and ask about his experiences.
Poland again through tenacity, Valor, heroism, and sheer guts saves the day. As they did in 1683 and beyond. Poles have stood as the anchor of a free Europe and have never flinched. Yarnhub, you are truly a teacher of history. Again, we can not say Thank- you enough to you and our brave Polish allies.
@CubeShimmy Absolutely! The Poles handing a defeat to Lenin led to The Winter War and subsequently to the 1939 invasion by Stalin. Tough, resilient strong people!
@anthonyeaton5153 Never to few! They could have rolled over and given in, but stood up in defiance to the enemy onslaught. That is courage and valor by any interpretation.
I'd like to personally thank our Polish allies for defending my country. You made it so the UK could fight another day "Never before have we owed so much by so many, to so few" 🇬🇧🇵🇱
This production quality is absolutely insane. The yarnhub team should be incredibly proud of themselves. I’ve yet to find any other channel that is able to bring such extraordinary detail to these war stories. Kudos Yarnhub.
Near the end of the war my dad was in the rear turret of a 61 Squadron Lancaster. It was the only op my dad mentioned and he said they were attacked by ME262's. A Lancaster from his Squadron was shot down and one from 50 Squadron too. But escorting Mustangs shot down four of the jets. It wasn't till only a few years ago and many years after my dad passed away that I found out the Mustangs were from 309 and 315 Polish Squadrons. Knocking down 4 of those jets is good going and has been forgotten by history. On that same op 617 Squadron dropped 2 22,000lb earthquake bombs as well tallboys. My dad never mentioned that either
I used to live at RAF Northolt, Used to walk past the memorial there to them all the time. I've always known about these brave men and give them ultimate respect.
Two things : 1. Wow. The 303rd, just like any other squadron during the war, were legends. The polish version of the Red Baron but formed into a squadron. 2. Congratulations on reaching 630K subscribers, here is to another 300 thousand. 🎉🎉
Fun fact, Manfred Von Richtofen, The Baron was born in what is now Wrocław Poland. So technically its not a Polish version of the baron, its ANOTHER Red Baron
Really interesting video as always. The quality of the animation is next level, awesome to see how far you've come! Love that it still feels unique to your style too.
My parents were Londoners during WW2 and had a couple of very narrow escapes with both normal bombings and V1 and V2 weapons. I would perhaps not be here today typing this if it was not for all the brave airmen who fought in the skies over our country, and London in particular in my case. Who is to say that Polish pilots did not help to shoot down a bomber or bombers that could have wiped out my parents and their own parents. I salute the Poles and all who protected our skies. Thank You ( Dziękuję bardzo)
My flight school teacher is actually Polish and he told us that his uncle flew Mosquitoes in the 303 Squadron, he didn't tell us anything more about that but it's awesome to see a video made on it. Btw the characters look amazingly detailed, and I can hear Advance Australia in the background.
No, just 60 polish kills out of 1883 luftwaffe and 10 Italian losses, so nowhere near decisive, or giving the slim margin of victory so often parroted. Don't believe all the crap taught to you back in Poland.
Seeing Yarmhubs animations from the start of their channel to now is amazing its nice to see a channel that doesn't just keep doing their craft but actually work to improve it going above and beyond just like the events in their videos
Yarnhub, I keep on becoming more and more astounded and grateful of the beautiful videos that you put up. If it wasn't for the likes of Polish, New Zeleanders, Africans, Czech's and so on we wouldn't have won the Battle of Britain. I remember watching the film and remembering how the British Air Staff - Dowding and heads of command looked down upon the Polish pilots and honestly why? They fought with real aggression and talent, we were losing several hundreds pilots a week due to sortie fatigue, being shot down by overwhelming Luftwaffe forces. The other nations that took part in the battle gave the RAF a much needed selection of pilots to choose. I remember watching 303 squadron and at the end the amount of times that I think about how much they sacrificed for us was overwhelming, we owe the Polish Pilots and the servicemen a massive debt of gratitude!
More overblown BS. I thought I'd create a simple "visual aid" in order to assist people learning about the history of the battle of Britain. There is much ongoing debate about the nationalities and proportions of RAF fighter pilots who took part in the battle, with occasionally a furtive aspect which attempts to portray the battle as a victory of "mostly foreign pilots". Below is a graphical representation of the proportion of pilot nationalities serving within RAF Fighter Command during the summer of 1940. Each flag is roughly equivalent to 30 pilots, The numbers after each nation are the ACTUAL number of aircrew from that country, and the approximate percentage of RAF Fighter Command's establishment in the summer of 1940 that they represented. The figures are taken from the RAF records of the awards of the highly coveted "Battle of Britain clasp" to the British 1939-45 Campaign Star. Which was SCRUPULOUSLY only awarded to RAF & Fleet Air Arm aircrew who flew at least one active sortie in the UK in any RAF fighter aircraft between 10th July 1940 and 31st Oct 1940. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 UK (2342) (80%) 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱 Poland (145) (5%) 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿 New Zealand (127) (4%) 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Canada (112) (4%) (1940 flag emoji not available) 🇨🇿🇨🇿🇨🇿 Czechoslovakia (88) (3%) 🇦🇺 Australia (32) (1%) 🇧🇪 Belgium (28) (1%) 🇿🇦 S. Africa (25) (1%) (1940 flag emoji not available) 🇺🇳 Other nations (France (13), R o Ireland (10), USA (9), Rhodesia (3), Newfoundland (1), Jamaica (1), Barbados (1)) (1%) Just to detail the commonwealth units in Britain in Sept 1940. The 1st Canadian infantry Division stationed south of London around the Leatherhead area in Surrey, Then there was the "2nd Australian Imperial Force" (Australforce) which though nominally comprised of 2 brigades (the 18th & 25th) actually only had the combined strength of a single 8000 man Brigade stationed outside Basingstoke, and finally the "2nd New Zealand Expeditionary force" a grand sounding title that hide the fact that it was comprised of solely the NZ 2nd infantry division which was comprised of 2 understrength infantry Brigade (5th & 7th NZ Inf Brigades). Its two understrength brigades were bolstered by the addition of the BRITISH 1st motor machine gun brigade and was stationed near to Maidstone in Kent. By the time of the expected invasion in Sept 1940 the British army was fielding 2 British Armoured divisions 2 British Armoured tank brigades 15 British infantry divisions (full strength) 7 British infantry divisions (under strength). 7 British independent infantry Brigades 2 British motor machine gun Brigades 1 Canadian infantry division (full strength) (plus some small under equipped subordinate units of a 2nd division) 1 NZ infantry "division" (actually 2 understrength infantry Brigades but with an attached British motor machine gun brigade) 2 Australian infantry brigades (under strength & unequipped) In addition to these forces were the 1,500,000 million men of the British "Home Guard". As you can see, as well as being the ONLY country being threatened by nazism from July 1940 to April 1941, the defence of the UK was a +95% British affair at this early stage of the war. It was in the following years AFTER 1940 that the size of the British Commonwealth forces really started to grow. Glad to have been of help in unburdening you of your misunderstanding in regard of this topic.
I've noticed that the characters (I'll say generally) have been improved once again by your team. It looks very good and I'm very impressed! Technological progress and personal growth, sir. New Unreal Engine alone is really a thing. But if you combine it with skill development you have breathtaking outcome.
The Battle of Britain is one of my favorite topics of WW2 that I have researched. Also great touch with adding the music from the final battle of the movie Battle of Britain, and War Thunder's Soviet Union Victory Theme.
Wow the graphics are more realistic than ever before! Even the textures of their faces seem unimaginably rendered beautifully. Kudos Yarnhub for these marvelous improvements!
I live in Kent, and despite the RAF having hundreds of airbases across the UK, Kent got nicknamed "Hellfire Corner" for how much it was bombed and shelled. I have a deep respect for the RAF, and I thank all the allied airmen who defended it, as well as the country To our Polish allies, thank you very much for defending my country "Never before, have we owed so much by so many, to so few" -Winston Churchill 🇬🇧🇵🇱
The graphics in this one are insanely good! The faces, expressions, lighting, scenery... seriously, top top TOP job well done! Definitely Sandwich's Seal Of Aproval! :)
05:25 If I recall correctly, 303's first kill was a BF-110, not Bf-109. Also, You missed on Josef Frantisek, a Czech and Honorary Pole in 303, and it's Ace of Aces during battle of Britain.
To clarify first actual kill while a none operational Squadron was a BF110 (This was claimed as a Dornier DO17 in the pilot's combat report) first operational kill was a BF109. Good call with Frantisek he certainly deserves a mention although the Poles let him do his own thing as he was a bit of a lone wolf and a very successful one in terms of his victory tally. Dowding's " There is good shooting.....within sight of London " was aimed at Frantisek and some other Battle of Britain pilots as he often followed German aircraft over the Channel either towards or to France. Sadly that cost him his life.....nor was he the only Battle of Britain pilot to die that way.
Love the number 303. Significant both because of the number of this squadron and the .303 Lee-Enfield round. Also love it when there are a group of folks who, even to other allies are considered "foreign" and folks may be hesitant to accept them. But then the succeed in spite of any doubts. Reminds me a bit of the mostly-Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team who ended up being the most decorated US Army unit of the war.
Loved the video! You all are getting better and the details are becoming more refined! Thank you for making today even better than it was as today was my birthday!❤️❤️🎂
Fighter pilots in exile, flying from foreign land! When the story's been heard, tell of 303rd! Fighter pilots from Poland, in the Battle of Britain, guarding the skies of the Isle!
Out of the one thousand channels I am subscribed too. You guys are by far my favorite. The quality and storytelling of these videos is incredible. You deserve way more attention. And you're getting new people into history by talking about these amazing men and women
Beyond amazing, wonderful, and emotionally lovely for such a channel to tell us things we would never really have hear in our history books is absolutely amazing
One documentary called The Bloody Foreigners by National Geographic tells the story. By the way, superb animation! Thank you for your hard work to honour heroes.
I have been enjoying YarnHub since the beginning. With this amazing video covering the heroic contributions of the Polish Airmen of the 303rd, we have witnessed the next evolution in their incredible animation. Absolutely fantastic videos and they just keep getting better. The emotions not only in the faces of the characters but in their eyes adds another layer to already deep and informative content. I would be lying if I said the majority of YarnHub videos didn't make me tear up with pride, joy or grief.
Oh my goodness the quality of this video is perfect! Really, the animations are getting better and better! Also love the war thunder music in the background
And for all their heroism and all their sacrifice, the "Allies" sold them to the soviets for 30 pieces of silver. "Never have so many been betrayed by so few for so little". May God forgive us.
A truly epic video, always love to see this channel pumping out quality animation after animation, each video never failing to intrigue and fascinate me, well done, Yarnhub
On the 30th of August F/O Ludwik Paszkiewicz actually shot down a BF110 of 4./ZG 76. (This was incorrectly recorded as a Dornier Do 17) The crashed Bf 110 was excavated in 1982. Later during the Battle of Britain, it was found that the performance of the twin-engined Bf110 did not match that of the RAF's Hurricanes and Spitfires so they had to be escorted into battle by Bf109s! It is this fact that probably led to F/O Ludwik Paszkiewicz miss identifying the aircraft as he probably assumed it was a bomber that was being escorted by Bf109s and not a fighter. Thank you however for an excellent piece of work please keep this up.
'...Later during the Battle of Britain, it was found that the performance of the twin-engined Bf110 did not match that of the RAF's Hurricanes and Spitfires so they had to be escorted into battle by Bf109s!...' This is incorrect. The only Bf 110 unit that received fighter escort was the fighter-bomber unit Erprobungsgruppe 210, and they received escort because they were classed as 'bombers' and so received escort to get them to the target and unload their bombs. Most of the time their escort came from the Bf 110s of Zerstörergeschwader 26, and on other occasions from the Bf 110s of Zerstörergeschwader 76 and V.(Z)/LG1. Pure Bf 110 fighter units NEVER received Bf 109 escort - that is a myth!
In that melee on 15th September, Walerian Zak of 303 was shot down after scoring a victory of his own. His Hurricane RF*S came down near Cobham in Surrey. Although badly burned, this hero survived and made it through the war, dying in 1967. I have part of the engine of that plane.
10:20 I felt what the man's feeling...😔 In the morning before the mission, both of you were still drinking a cup of coffee, but in the middle of the night. You're only see his cap without his body beside you. Comrades, rest in peace...

Yarnhub constantly outdoes himself. His 3D animation skills are as big as the courage of those brave Poles.
Respect!
My late Mother served with 303 Squadron as a WAAF in WW2. She told me they were the Maddest & Most Committed 'Gentlemen'. Any 303 Squadron follower should read the book 'For Your Freedom And Ours'.
I have lived in the USA for 52 years. I purchased this book 15 years ago.
This animation is sooo good! Seeing them go from 2D to this in the span of 3/4 years is astounding.
Legendary man, telling untold stories so the world watches and learns, true respect for also using war thunder soundtracks!!
i believe there are Blazing Angels soundtrack as well
Technically War Thunder got the music piece from somewhere else but I have to say I was immediately transported to my hangar haha

Beautifully said!
1920 as well ;)
@CubeShimmy Absolutely! The Poles handing a defeat to Lenin led to The Winter War and subsequently to the 1939 invasion by Stalin. Tough, resilient strong people!
You are over stating Polands part in the war. Yes wonderful fighters on land and in the air but they were too few to make that much difference.
@anthonyeaton5153 Never to few! They could have rolled over and given in, but stood up in defiance to the enemy onslaught. That is courage and valor by any interpretation.
Yarnhub wielkie dzięki za ten odcinek, wreszcie się doczekałem o Polskich pilotach
The storytelling in this video is insane. I found myself shedding a tear multiple times.
303 Squadron! Looking forward to this one 🇵🇱
🇵🇱🇨🇿❤️
I'd like to personally thank our Polish allies for defending my country. You made it so the UK could fight another day
"Never before have we owed so much by so many, to so few" 🇬🇧🇵🇱
This production quality is absolutely insane. The yarnhub team should be incredibly proud of themselves. I’ve yet to find any other channel that is able to bring such extraordinary detail to these war stories.
Kudos Yarnhub.
Nearly 6am in Australia. Perfect way to start the day! Thanks Yarnhub!
Wowzaz mate 8pm in england 🤣
My dad never mentioned that either
jestem Polakiem ale nie wiedziałem o tym :( sprawdziłem w internecie i rzeczywiście to prawda :) pozdrawiam z południa Polski z miasta Sosnowiec :)
I used to live at RAF Northolt, Used to walk past the memorial there to them all the time. I've always known about these brave men and give them ultimate respect.
Two things :

Seeing your animations change on the last 4 years is crazy with how much attention to detail you put in,you are always amazing to watch
11:11 warthunder players cant let that background music go unnoticed
My flight school teacher is actually Polish and he told us that his uncle flew Mosquitoes in the 303 Squadron, he didn't tell us anything more about that but it's awesome to see a video made on it. Btw the characters look amazingly detailed, and I can hear Advance Australia in the background.
Truly fanatastic animation, Yarnhub! The brave Polish fighters where the silm margin that won the battle of Britain for the free forces of Europe
No, just 60 polish kills out of 1883 luftwaffe and 10 Italian losses, so nowhere near decisive, or giving the slim margin of victory so often parroted.
Don't believe all the crap taught to you back in Poland.
I have to say, the character models in this one have taken leaps and bounds, as have the backgrounds. Incredible as always Yarnhub team!
Love from the UK ❤ Thank you for all the brave souls RIP
Great job for including the Polish writing and especially the voice.
Seeing Yarmhubs animations from the start of their channel to now is amazing its nice to see a channel that doesn't just keep doing their craft but actually work to improve it going above and beyond just like the events in their videos
WOW! It‘s amazing to see how far your animations have come. Keep it up!

Fantastic video. Being Polish that really makes me proud
I love how your animations keep getting better and better.
Started out with your video of the 21 Sikh and now I'm addicted to your channel. Thank you for producing such amazing content for all of us to enjoy!

Just to detail the commonwealth units in Britain in Sept 1940.
By the time of the expected invasion in Sept 1940 the British army was fielding
2 British Armoured divisions
2 British Armoured tank brigades
15 British infantry divisions (full strength)
7 British infantry divisions (under strength).
7 British independent infantry Brigades
2 British motor machine gun Brigades
1 Canadian infantry division (full strength) (plus some small under equipped subordinate units of a 2nd division)
1 NZ infantry "division" (actually 2 understrength infantry Brigades but with an attached British motor machine gun brigade)
2 Australian infantry brigades (under strength & unequipped)
In addition to these forces were the 1,500,000 million men of the British "Home Guard".
The quality of the character models really blew my mind. The hair especially
yeah they really step it up on the hair and uniform department
I noticed too
05:25 If I recall correctly, 303's first kill was a BF-110, not Bf-109.
I absolutely love the quality of these pieces of history recounting
Love the number 303. Significant both because of the number of this squadron and the .303 Lee-Enfield round. Also love it when there are a group of folks who, even to other allies are considered "foreign" and folks may be hesitant to accept them. But then the succeed in spite of any doubts. Reminds me a bit of the mostly-Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team who ended up being the most decorated US Army unit of the war.
Oh my goodness these animations never stop getting better. At this rate Yarnhub could start making videogame graphics.

Yarnhubs evolution of animation quality is absolutely fantastic. Easily one of my favorite channels.

In that melee on 15th September, Walerian Zak of 303 was shot down after scoring a victory of his own. His Hurricane RF*S came down near Cobham in Surrey. Although badly burned, this hero survived and made it through the war, dying in 1967. I have part of the engine of that plane.
