When I think of Marcus Aurelius’s teachings I always remember - Give me the SERENITY to ACCEPT the things that I can’t control, the COURAGE to CHANGE the things that I can, and the WISDOM to know the DIFFERENCE. ❤😊
The reason I love Marcus Aurelius so much is because I faced so many of the troubles he provides solutions too. I would get like halfway to his solution on my own, then negative thoughts would push out the wisdom before I’d have that “aha” moment. Hearing that someone from 2,000 years ago was facing essentially the exact same problems made me realize that my problems are not unique or so complex that I as a human don’t possess the skills to make my life better in the face of these problems. Was kind of like holding a mirror up to myself, but my reflection became a friend instead of a bully.
Hi, Ryan, wow, what a treasure. If you’d have find 52, there’ll be one for every week of the year to think about and work with… I’ll translate it into German and make a picture of it. I always admired the Stoics and they helped me a lot during my life. There are of course reasons I found them. My favourite was always EPIKTET, thank you I know now a lot more. Never too old to learn new skills. Love, Monika❣️
It is almost 6 month of war here in Ukraine. And my native city is right on the front line. All these missile strikes, artillery , etc. ruining places that were part of my life and killing people I knew made me to revise some thoughts on life priorities. Extreme situations like this kind of underline what is really important in your life. A food and water enough to be healthy and sometimes something tasty just for pleasure of tasting a good dish. Clean and warm bed to sleep. Possibility of having a walk in the park and watching birds, squirrels , etc. People you care are in safety and are healthy. An opportunity to work on things you want to master. This is actually it. Its actually what is enough. Situation brought me to something on the edge of stoicism and Nietzschean overcoming of yourself. And while googling on stoicism I came across with your channel. Just want to say - thank you. You are doing a great job sharing thoughts and spreading an ideas to people that need them!
Andrii. I follow the Ukraine War pretty much daily and wanna tell you how sorry I am that your country suffers this injustice. I think of you guys every day, praying for you to meet your sovereign objectives and for this nightmare to be over. Better days ahead, my friend! A lot of people in the world care about Ukraine❤️
Since I was a kid I have read stoicism, became so depressed under the pandemic and brought me back to stoicism, under the pandemic I had reviewed my entire lifetime,I had not find regrets on me,other than not getting my Hi School Diploma or GED.
Ryan, thank you for sharing the practical wisdom of the stoics. You do so in a very natural and powerful way. I greatly value how it supports my understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as binding with other faiths and paths of refinement. I am grateful to you and have been made better by your life's mission. Thank you!
I just realised I can totally use "the obstacle is the way" when teaching maths. We talk in education about how the struggle to understand something is actually so important to making it stick in your brain. Anything to keep up my persona as the "weird teacher" anyway lol.
HI Ryan, I want to say Thank you! I listen this video every morning, it basically lifts me up from a hopeless situation under extreme isolation and psychological torture. You are "Wow !!! "
Hi Ryan thank you so very much for these videos. You are inspiring me to be 1% better every day. Making healthier choices, sticking to a good fitness routine. And even doing one thing today to scare me by having a cold shower this morning after my high intensity training workout I had always feared cold water and I found myself looking up at the shower head and asking it" is this all you've got?" Next aims are to go to bed 15 minutes earlier at the start of each week and waking up 15 minutes earlier. Improving by 15 minutes every week. So I can get up and start journalling. 😊😊
"Everything you do, you chose to purchase with your life" This hit me so hard. I never thought of life/death, every moment that we have, useless things that i spent time on, this way. So profound, and awe-inspiring.
Thank you Ryan. I love your videos, very helpful to me. I very much appreciate that you have made such a precious ancient philosophy available to the viewers.
In a culture that sees asking for help as a sign of weakness, no single act carries the weight of true strength more than rejecting the entire culture by asking for that help.

I have probably read 100+ personal development books over the last 20 years and only just stumbled upon Stoicism this year. It has completely changed my world-view. My stress and anxiety has all but disappeared.
Just found your channel today. Went out and bought a journal and starting to implement this self reflection and allowing to be removed from things I can't control. I started the day feeling crappy. But feel more comfortable now. Thank you for all the great advice.
I absolutely get so much out of these videos and they have become my daily obsession. They enlighten me, and guide me towards my higher self. Thank you so much for all that you do! #Gratitude
I love stoicism so much. For the longest time I'd been independently "winging it" in terms of my mental health, throughout an extremely challenging and traumaric upbringing/young adulthood - and what I eventually ended up doing, what actually began to heal and improve me, was somehow developing views and behaviours thay follow the principles of stoicism. I wasn't aware of stoicism yet, and it wasn't a conscious/intentional thing I did - it's just how I eventually learned to cope with life in the best possible way that made me feel like i was improving myself and my life, and made living so much less distressful and upsetting and hopeless. I was beyond delighted when I discovered stoicism because it helped me identify these things I've been doing and improve upon them, and has also introduced me to tons more information/ideas/"rules" that I hadn't previously considered and can apply to my life. Applying principles of stoicism to my life has made an absolute world of difference. And I fully intend to continue working on these principles in a more conscious and intentional way, because I have experienced the benefits first-hand. Life feels so much more manageable. I don't fear the future, I dont fear anything that could happen. It feels like I can get through anything that may come my way. Good or bad, I just do whatever I can to make the best of any situation and try to behave/respond in a way I'm proud of. I have learned so much from the "bad" situations in my life and I wouldn't ever give that up. It has shaped me into the person I am today.
OMG - I’m enjoying this so much… I’m in my mid seventies now. I studied Eastern wisdom traditions most of my life: Buddhism, Zen, and Taoism, but I knew nothing at all about the Stoics. Over my 70+ years I had developed some personal ideas and outlooks that helped me along the way. Then… over the past few months because of these vids on TH-cam I have been introduced to the Stoics way of viewing life and I am stunned at how many of these ideas I had developed on my own without realizing there was a name for it or that there were ancient wisdom traditions based on that way of seeing things. So: THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this with the world here on YT. Now I want to read some of these wise words in book form to grok the back-story. Ever grateful.
Great video, Ryan. No. 10 on imagined troubles, and No. 48 The Obstacle is the Way, and making the best out of difficulties really resonate with me. Thank you for all of the wisdom you share :)
Found meditations book at a rummage sale and later found your book. Ryan just read The obstacle is the way. Changed my life. Thank you for the inspiration! ❤❤❤
Hey my friend, so many of these things resonate with me, things I've always tried to practice. I had no idea there was a philosophy practicing this called stoicism. I'm so excited to learn more about it. Thanks
A few years back I went through a very painful divorce and your book helped me out of my depression. I would listen to it as I was running training for a marathon... almost 5 years later I realize how that painful journey was the way to this current new stage of my life... it turns out my exwife was a few years later diagnosed with freak Early Onset Dementia... what I did not realize at the time is the weigh of that disease was not only bringing her down, but bringing our young sons and myself down with it... it was through the painful divorce that I freed myself from it, and was able to be the father my sons needed... now my sons and I are doing very well, and we are also caring for my exwife and being present for her accompanying her though her journey, but not being drowned by it... the painful divorce was the way for all of us to become greater and have a better life (for now -lol)

Dear Ryan, you're so young, how did you become so enlightened? And, thank you for sharing your insight with the world.
This is the real content and spread positivity all over the world. I am from india I share this video to all my friends because this rules is very impressive.
Almost 2 weeks plus I watched this video everyday to remind this rules 👍
The reason why I like Ryan holiday is not because of agreeing with stoicism but because of how passionate he is about stoicism
When I think of Marcus Aurelius’s teachings I always remember - Give me the SERENITY to ACCEPT the things that I can’t control, the COURAGE to CHANGE the things that I can, and the WISDOM to know the DIFFERENCE. ❤😊
Catholic prayer
@@Kitiwake I don’t think Marcus Aurelius was Catholic. 🤔. I rather think this would be before Catholics. 🙄
Thanks so very much for this. I am going to be watching this over and over again every morning while I get ready before my day starts!
So much wisdom in just 30 minutes. Thank you!
You are a great teacher and this is very selflessly done. Easy to understand and powerful. Thank you.
What a gem, one of the best videos I’ve watched!! This needs to be reviewed weekly at a minimum!! Wow ❤
Daily Stoic: has a mother proud: without false pride.❤😊
Love your passion for Stoicism Ryan. I enjoy your videos. Great "grounders" for anyone caught up in normal Earth stuff. Now to apply it!
Utterly, unbelievably and precisely great wisdom !!!!
THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS I HOPE U LIVE A GOOD LIFE
The reason I love Marcus Aurelius so much is because I faced so many of the troubles he provides solutions too.
Thank you
It is almost 6 month of war here in Ukraine.
🎯
May the force be with you my friend! You are surely also a hero!
Long live you and yours!
Long live ✨ 🇺🇦 Ukraine 🇺🇦 ✨!

The stoic rules are in themselves a revelation, but your commentary on them just amplifies them!!
Since I was a kid I have read stoicism, became so depressed under the pandemic and brought me back to stoicism, under the pandemic I had reviewed my entire lifetime,I had not find regrets on me,other than not getting my Hi School Diploma or GED.
This channel is youtube at it's best- the information helps the viewers become better and wiser people.
Thank you!
I am turning my eldest son onto the stoic philosophy and we use this guy 95% if the time.
I am grateful to have found this channel and the things you teach. It brings a sense of calm to me.
This video is priceless Ryan. Everyone should watch this regularly and apply as much as they can to their life. Thank you for uploading.
Wise far beyond your years. Love your book, “the obstacle is the way”. Simple concepts I can act upon today.
🌹✌😀🫂💖😁
🤔 -- there's a book!
@Joe Kuhn - Are you an obstacle?
I so appreciate your channel ❤ 💛 💕 ♥ 💓
Wow, there's a lot of quality information packed into these 26 minutes. Thanks man! Your videos are among the best on TH-cam!
This man is changing the world

Love from a small channel💙
Hi Ryan. You have inspired me to study stoicism. It has changed my life! I am forever grateful for your work. Thank you very much! Carpe diem.
Really Worth Listening...
Thanks For The Good Work...
Keep The Good Work Continuing...
Life changing advice! Well spoken my friend!
I hope this video gets a million views because it deserves it. So much wisdom in one TH-cam video.
This guy is really something else. Thank you for trying to make our life better.❤️🔥
Easily one of the best video on internet.
Thank you for these nuggets of wisdom. This needs to be shared everywhere.
Medicine via your ears . Thank you always Ryan for awsome content.
In a culture that sees asking for help as a sign of weakness, no single act carries the weight of true strength more than rejecting the entire culture by asking for that help.
The clarity of this. Please teach these principles.
God bless you Ryan!! Please continue to help us becoming better!!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I love the writings of the stoics. Your video allows me to send my entire family an enriching summary of their wisdom!!!
never clicked on a video so quickly, Thank you for this gem of a video Ryan!

Dont know how many times l have listen to this. Thank you!
Thank you for keeping it short Ryan, I feel like this could be useful to listen to daily in the morning.
I agree all rules except the one that says don't forget yourself, I would say in return be tolerant to yourself and life will be much easier!
Ever grateful.
you are realy like my wise father who continually teaches me art of how to live I appreciate your work
Great video, Ryan. No. 10 on imagined troubles, and No. 48 The Obstacle is the Way, and making the best out of difficulties really resonate with me. Thank you for all of the wisdom you share :)
Also, I found No 42 interesting 'If someone offends you, realize you are complicit in taking offense', very relvant to the current culture.
Thank you for this amazing lessons. I believe it will change my life tremendously.
Ryan is always on point...
The Rules are clear and ready to be implemented if determined.
Definitely will make you better and give you the edge.
Found meditations book at a rummage sale and later found your book. Ryan just read The obstacle is the way. Changed my life. Thank you for the inspiration! ❤❤❤
Thank you for this. I lost my way for a bit not following one of the most important rules, and Im working my way back...so this was a nice reminder :)
I enjoy reading Ryan's books but I love listening to this video while I labor away doing house chores ..thanks for posting!
House chores a really the perfect time for listening to audiobooks, I always am so focused on the content when doing this
Hey my friend, so many of these things resonate with me, things I've always tried to practice. I had no idea there was a philosophy practicing this called stoicism. I'm so excited to learn more about it. Thanks
Just listen to this on my first run of the year on Jan 1, 2023.
Powerful wisdom in 26 minutes Ryan Holiday is true gem of our time
I'm going to be playing this video every day as a great reminder ;)
Stoic. If I am ever in a situation like this, I hope I can live up to this.
You are a beautiful person for the way that you dealt with a time that was clearly very distressing. You sound like a great example to your family! Your actions are very inspiring. 👍🏽😊
BS. I talked to ur “ex” and she said she’s never even met u.
@@johnbags2525 very classy. Your attempt of joke lacks class. I wonder why you are reading these deep thought post and then responding like this? Anyway, work on your humor. Trying to hurt other people is never funny.
@@johnbags2525 in keeping with the tradition of “The Obstacle Is The Way” Your negative post gave me the opportunity to paste a message I wrote to my ex-wife because today would have been our 29th wedding anniversary:
.
A note to my ex-wife
In the day of our anniversary.
It has been
- [ ] 29 years since we got married and I promised to take care of you until death do us apart.
- [ ] 31 years since you stole my heart with your sweet kiss when we first met
- [ ] 7 years since we divorced.
- [ ] 4 years since you were diagnosed with Early Onset Dementia and I took you back to care for you.
My heart is broken in 1000 pieces and dark. Yet, somehow I managed to learn to love better than I had ever loved before.
Your sweetness is incomparable. Your pureness is indescribable.
I am still in awe!
Yet, I suffer immeasurable grief for seeing you go through the Alzheimer’s experience. My pain is matched with deep gratitude for having the opportunity to serve you selflessly, and to take care of our two beautiful and strong sons.
I will always love you selflessly and eternally, because you deserve it. I see the pure sweetness of God displayed in you every second of every day.
Thank you for making me better and for giving me the opportunity to care for you.
Iam very Greatful to your video 🙏 . It really motivates me
