Planet Coaster - Gambit (Part 1) - GCI Wooden Coaster (Timelapse + POV)

  • Gambit is an attempt to make a Great Coasters International wooden coaster in Planet Coaster. GCI has a unique track shaping and layout design, so aside from reasons of practice for myself, I wanted to make this coaster to test the extend to which you can recreate specific track shaping and coaster manufacturer quirks in the game. It's far from perfect, but I'm quite happy with the final result (even if it took a long time to get there...).
    I made this coaster a long time ago - so back then there was no option for lower friction settings yet. Hence the layout slows down much quicker than one would in real life, but the focus of the coaster is on track shaping and achieving an overall GCI 'feel'.

    The things that makes GCIs difficult to create, especially without force analyzation, is that banking transitions have constant roll rate and nearly every airtime hill holds constant 0G.

    Just letting you know, if your trying to get a realistic GCI layout, have a shed for the brake run. Every GCI has it, maybe with a few exceptions.

    • @CoolioJoe100
      @CoolioJoe100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The shed would be for the storage/transfer tracks which is another straight segment separate from the terminal brake run. He needs to have that in addition to the brake run he has.

    GCI uniquely has this way of switching directions on the fly with almost no bank, yet the lats are well within normal bounds. No other woodie manufacturer seems to do it like GCI. That said, if you don't take care of their coasters...they become a nightmare to ride because of those lats. I'm looking at you Apocalypse at SFMM...

    I'm SUPER excited. We're getting our first GCI wooden coaster here in the UK! It's located at Alton Towers and is set to open early 2018. It's currently going by the codename "SW8" (rumors say it's official name will be "Wicker Man") and from the plans, it's quite a short coaster. But should be great nonetheless.

    My favorite pure woodie is absolutely GCI's Thunderhead at Dollywood. She's very rough now compared to how she used to be, but god I loved that coaster when I first went on it. Still do. Also, Thunderhead most certainly does go under curved sections of it's own track... then again... Thunderhead is mostly curves sooooo..... XD

    Yeah Silv I think you got the essence of a GCI coaster down in this layout. I have known about the Wood Coaster in China for some time now and to me it looks like it would be one of the most intense coasters to ever ride. That thing hauls! You never get the sense that you're slowing down and because the track layout is so atypical you never have time to anticipate what is coming next. Everything is a surprise and the airtime hops continue the whole way through. I loved the explanation about how the designers work in plan, elevation, and section separately. One would think the final layout would be quite uncomfortable, but it is these very inconsistencies that lend to the greatness of these coasters. Love the coaster especially during the second half of the track, because you get a sense of the GCI experience. I wonder if you have started to play with the new in game friction slider for this coaster. It would be interesting to have a comparision video of a coaster with regular friction compared to the same track with 90% or 80% of the standard in game friction.

    One thing to note is that GCI does sometimes leave their "comfort zone", so to speak, and will occasionally design something that's more similar to a Gravity Group coaster while still using their own transition profiling. White Lightning at Fun Spot Orlando is one such ride, due to the narrow space the layout had to fit into.

    GCIs are so amazing. My local park has one, Renegade at Valleyfair, and it's currently my favorite coaster I've ridden...although I am only at like 20 credits. Better than the RMC Goliath at Six Flags Great America, IMO.

    I watched this and then went to watch an on-ride POV of Troy and immediately thought "Wow, this reminds me of the old wooden coaster at Six Flags where I used to live -- I wonder if that one was built by GCI?"
    Sure enough, the Roar at Six Flags America in Maryland USA is a GCI wooden coaster. They're definitely fantastic coasters.

  • @AJClarke0912
    @AJClarke0912 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great job for attempting this. I have two immediate criticisms, but I think both of these could be solved by one move. The first drop is far too flat in shape and not parabolic enough to be going straight that long before the curve. Your ride also seems a tad on the slow side (may be hard to judge without a locked camera POV). You could solve both of these by raising the lift a decent bit and reshaping it to arc downward more. Other than that, this is really great for Planet Coaster. It will be cool to see this finished.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! This is exactly the sort of criticism I long for. I chalk the slow speed up to the game's friction, which was way too high at the time of building this (although we can now adjust it... Maybe with that and some trim brakes it can be better,), the first drop I'm definitely not happy with. Unfortunately using the 4m method means you can't adjust track shaping after you've made the track, so it's hard to get the shaping right. I may tackle the curve a little though, and right now I gave the park file to FreetheBear to work on - he's doing supports as we speak, and he has reshaped the lifthill and first drop crest a little already. Feels weird to say this about my own projects but I can't wait to see how it turns out.
