- It’s Nathaniel’s lucky day. He pairs our Blonde ‘58 Stratocaster with a ‘57 Princeton Tweed and the rest, they say, is history as he takes us on a tour through time beginning with The Everly Brothers’ classic, “All I Have To Do Is Dream”, released in April 1958.
Hey guys! Nathaniel here at Chicago Music Exchange and it's my pleasure to be introducing you to a 1958 Stratocaster. This one comes in a very rare Blonde finish. Lots of wear and tear on it as you can see in the back, I love that. The neck is from 1957 and because it is from '57 it does have that very subtle and coveted V-neck profile. The body is from 58. Pots from 57. The serial number is from 57/58 also. Around that time there were Mary Kaye spec Stratocasters as well with the gold hardware as you can see, we got the nickel hardware. If this was a Mary Kaye spec with the gold hardware it would be twice the price. Quite a lot!

chicagomusicexchange but... he’s on here and many people get to see him and enjoy him and I’m not sure, but he works for you? And that’s a great thing in itself at least for me it is. That’s how I look at it.

@@chicagomusicexchangethe neck pickup is something else. I own a fantastic custom shop Stratocaster, which I love, but that openness and brightness from the neck pickup... It only seems to come from the really good old one's

Nathaniel, you can't be old enough to have even heard these songs let alone play them like you've done 4 sets a night 6 nights a week in a cover band circa 1974. Great playing and the sound thru the Princeton was fabulous!

That is absolutely a magnificent early Fender Stratocaster and Princeton. Such beautiful, beautiful tone. You would not be able to put that set up down. Wonderful choice of songs and pickup selection.

I was impressed by the playing, but I wonder, is there some kind soul out there who can explain: What is the benefit of playing different pieces of music for each pickup position when demoing a guitar? I just don’t understand this practice. How does it aid comparison? Wouldn’t it be more useful to just play an open G in each position, followed by playing a quick riff in each position (same riff each time). What am I missing? Someone please enlighten me!
These videos are less about comparing the sounds of pickup positions, and more about demoing what the guitar is capable of.

That pickguard/backplate don't look 60+ years old
It's abs and it doesn't really discolor compared to celluloid they used in the 60s.

Sounds average at best. These old vintage strats where actually put together by Mexican labourers in the 50’s looks great tho
