Mat Armstrong I fitted mine today! So happy with it and I wouldn’t have come by this if it wasn’t for your video! so thank you Matt! Being so affordable to me too I was able to buy it
Seen some negative comments here but I've literally just done this on my BMW E91 3 series (mine was a Mewant kit from eBay though) and the results look awesome - just needs to be done properly and it'll look amazing! Mat's 2 main mistakes here (sorry Mat, love your vids bro) were putting the cover on backwards and not using the double sided tape that comes with these kits, applying the tape to the bits by the wheel spokes is an absolute NECESSITY to stop the creases and bulges forming when you sew the stitching together as it's a very tight fit. Another top tip to make this 100 times easier is just take the steering wheel off and do this from the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is disconnect the battery, remove the airbag (actually super easy), disconnect the 2 connectors for the steering wheel buttons and remove the single bolt holding the wheel on. This means you don't have to be sat in the drivers seat for many, many hours doing this (I did mine watching some TV after work!) and also means that you can make the stitching so much more even and neat - honestly it might take you 20/30 mins max to remove the wheel but will save several hours overall and will give a much, much better result!
i just done mine, came out really nice kept it standard looking but wheel feels brand new and abit thicker. i used spray adhesive, worked really well to keep it from going baggy
Reason why it looks creased on the sides is due to the wrap being for a M-Sport steering wheel which are a little thicker then the sport steering wheel. But effort for trying and still looks better then standard.
GOTTA-11 wait till you drive one, as a former rx8 seriesII owner the 1er lays down G's thru corners and catches a slide just as well if not better. E39's are one of the best proportioned BMW IMHO.
Need a flat head screwdriver for the airbag dude it’s fidley but easy to do once you’ve got your head round what need to happen. It’s just a long spring bit of metal you push in as you pull the same side of the air bag then repeat on the other side I did it when I changed my steering wheel to Royals one with Alcantara and perforated leather on my M3
Big dawg, you've kept me entertained with the tt videos, the 1 series is good too! At least I have something else to look forward to in the new year!! Keep it up!!
Been watching your channel about the bmw 120d, I've got a 120i I have many cars in the past but the bmw 120i what a car it's got what I need what a good buy don't think I would change it its definitely a drives car
Just discovered the channel, binged watched your videos all evening. It's gotta be said, you look a little like Matt Watson from carwow haha. Keep it up, what makes you unique from a lot of car youtubers is that you know how to work on your cars
Same car but coupe 6spd msport in Monaco blue, running the same exact rims in 17" been enjoying, yellow stitch matching the calipers nice touch, happy new year
Looks good, bit on the rough side but overall looks good. I'm glad I just bought a E87 118i from 2011 with a M Steering wheel and M shifter. already looks great, and its leather lol
Hi new suber here, love the 1 Series videos, have u changed ur interior lights to leds, i want to do mine a video to watch would be good before hand? 😜
I did it on mine. But had problems. Seems like system having trouble to detect if its on or off, so sometimes it just shuts off on its own and doesn't turn on.
Hi there Mat. Can you please share a good place where i can buy that bumpers and halo lights. I only see 2 things on your website and the rest of your cars modification is not there.
hi dude i got BMW 123D coupe and i try to do ONE TOUCH Signal using BimmerCode its says critical error has been detected . so do u have any idea for that?
So what was wrong with how you fit it? (The trump meme bit) Did it just need to be the other way round? Guessing the excess fabric bit is supposed to go at the back as it's deeper there or something?
Good video but I got one question When you disconnected the multifunctional buttons from the steering wheel, did it result in some DTC's? Thanks in advance!
@@nikolamilutinovic7770 If you're worried, you can just unplug battery while doing it. As far as i remember, you can remove those buttons without removing/disconnecting airbag.
Hi Mat. I just noticed my 116i (f20) makes a whining noise when at the extreme ends of steering on both sides. If I steer either far left or right it whines. I checked and it seems she has an electric power steering, so nowhere to change lubricant or anything. What can I do about this??
That is just not going to last long with those creases in it, give it 1000 miles and it will be slipping around the wheel like crazy, pay to have it trimmed right or leave it IMO
These covers can be done well, I did mine and it lasted perfect for 6000 miles until I got rid of the car, id bet it's still on. He just did a really bad job
If you are like me and suck at stitching dont bother! I know you like to save money but this is in most cases just thrown away money. Its never perfect… i tried this with a real expesive set but not the result i wanted. Now I’ve bought the original m stearing wheel. Trust me dont do it.

I'm kinda scared of unplugging the battery ngl
That looks rough.
I'd rather pay for a refurb
It looks good when it's done properly...he's just done a shit job of it
From the @Phatbitsuk page on Instagram show that these covers look amazing! IF FITTED CORRECTLY. This is a no brainier in my opinion! Looks great 🙌🏼

Fast foward 4 years later.... it worked!
Great content mate, but that wheel looks terrible with that cover.
Reason why it looks creased on the sides is due to the wrap being for a M-Sport steering wheel which are a little thicker then the sport steering wheel. But effort for trying and still looks better then standard.
Might be an idea to cable tie the wrap to the wheel first then do the stitching. It may help keeping it in place and pulling it right making it easier
You could have sewn up them jeans as well mate. 😉 Soz. Couldn't resist.
ok boomer
@Dan Blyth chill
Put a bit of gentle heat on that and it will form better on those thumb grip areas 👍🏻
You are such a cool guy! You make me from a bmw 1 hater to a 1 lover and now I want one to replace my e39 🤣 love from France 💪

👏👏 where can I buy that forged carbon wrap, looks sick!!!

You’re suppose to clean the surface with alcohol and use double sided tape to help with the sagginess
Nice videos! Have the same car and I love it. Try installing an Android Navigation unit!
Should have just contacted royal steering wheels .. £150 job done

You could try heating the creases out
In the middle of doing this myself mate, did you turn it round after the start? Thanks
I think if you did every stitch instead of every other stitch it would look more tight and perhaps fix the wrinkles.
you need a 335i or 335d but if you wanna go audi, A5 3.0 tdi quattro
It’s coming on well bro
Can't wait to see what's the next project, hopefully is an Audi🤟🤟🤟
look soo soo goood !
Bring back the TT...🤔
He’s got a look of Matt Watson off Carwow TH-cam channel in fact I had to go and check it wasn’t the same person
Why don’t you just put an f30 wheel on look so much better
Onwards and upwards now💪🏼
Jo Mat where did you get those forged carbon parts?
Ain't you suppose to cut the stitching on the old cover and then stitch on the new one? If no then that will make the wheel to thick
These covers are all designed to go over the original steering wheel.
Good luck to you mate spending all that time👍😂
found it : D i loved this audi tt sad see it go. anyone know if this was sline or TTs ?
