      The u.s actually used the Enfield pattern 197 more than the Springfield 1903 during ww1.

    Lebels and Berthiers and difficult to come by these days as C&R collecting has increased in popularity. Those I have never shot

      I had a friend with an 8mm Label that swatted Him between the eyes hard enough to bleed, shooting uphill at some deer. Yup!

    the editors sure don't know the difference between a 1903 and a US Model 1917......1917 had longer sight radius and much better sights, also one more round in magazine. Cocked on closing which helped in rapid fire as it would not lock up when over heated like the 1903. yes, it did weigh more than the 1903, 9.187 lbs compared to 8.7 for the 1903....I bought my 1917 in 1968 and still love it after a few 52 years.

    Most time spent on US 1903 springfield. They did split off to several other nation's rifles. It was my understanding that at first the US was using French rifles due to lack of production. Us later had a more extensive military complex but they weren't that way when joining Ww1.

      1903 Springfields and American Enfields were produced in enough quantities for most of America's armed forces in WW1 or so I've been led to believe. French tanks, field artillery, aircraft, and machine guns were used by the USA however due to the reasons you cited.
      A good article is here:

      C&R Arsenal Othias described it as men first guns second. UK and France had industry surpluses of guns in the mid-war so it also part of that plan. Shipping logistics overseas is a big influencer.

      For the 5 minutes that America was in the war,most of the equipment they used was French.

    The M1903 Springfield was still standard issue in Workd War II especially during the early years where despite M1 Garands being available they were still used by many US troops.

    The SMLE is fast and has a high capacity, but it's not very accurate and has a high recoil.

    • @litoneup

      Hogwash. Shoot it first.

    • @Nooziterp1
      @Nooziterp1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was more than accurate enough for the ranges encountered in the war. And the recoil was certainly no worse than the Springfield or the Mauser. As Gary Piont says, shoot it first.

    Forgotten Weapons channel has a series of videos that is far more explanatory and has a far more tidy timeline than this (garbage) of when rifles came out and their purpose at the time of their invention. This was a pain to watch, even with the very fine filming and videography.

    Typical American program. The first 8 minutes 58 seconds were about the American Springfield everyone else got 3 minutes if they were lucky! Total one sided bias..... AGAIN

    I am sorry, but to describe a weapon designed specifically to kill as “beautiful” is not exactly how I see guns, effective,durable,well manufactured, easily maintained, accurate, ergonomically designed, but “beautiful”? No, sorry. 😔👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
