I think anchor doesn't use any instruments, but ofc vocal effects and layering. It's a great song, especially those lyrics!

They will always have that barebones acapella core, but it's fun to see them do other things as well. But I can totally see personally preferring one sound over the other. Thankfully, with how much music they've done, how long they've been going and how much they seem set on continuing, there will be enough music for all of our tastes, I would think! Because they also released My heart with you recently which is just stripped back 5 part harmony. So we get it all!

Mitch's vocals on this album in particular are beautiful and haunting at times. The lyrics to all of the songs are pure story telling (in a good way!) and I believe a large part of why their original music is so engaging, is the meaningful lyrics behind the incredible music. I would recommend you purchase this album for your own enjoyment!

Midnight in Tokyo has a video and its a collab with the Japanese girl group Little Glee Monster. There are a couple of videos for the song A Little Space. One was made for the LMNT water brand and one was with Korean group ATEEZ. Its another upbeat fun song from The Lucky Ones. I think you'd really like Petals, but you'd have to react to the visualizer (or a lyric video) since there is no official video. The Kirstie led Love Me When I Don't is awesome and there is a video for it. Really, the entire The Lucky Ones Deluxe is amazing and I highly recommend the download. The songs that have videos are: Coffee In Bed, Love Me When I Don't, Happy Now, A Little Space (two versions), Be My Eyes (also Kirstie led), and both Coffee In Bed and The Lucky Ones have live versions from late night talk shows (one is from Jimmy Kimmel for sure but I am not sure about the other). The Lucky Ones (the song) is probably my favorite because it is literally their story. They did a lot of experimenting with layering, effects, and strategic addition of instrumentation on The Lucky Ones. For some, it takes away from the OG PTX vibe, but I am okay with a group that has proven time and again they can do it all live stepping outside their boundaries and trying new things. I'd rather they try new things to keep their creative juices flowing than have it become so rote that they dial it in or give up on it all together.

This album is their 10th Anniversary celebratory album that came out in 2021. So many good songs, PTX originals, including the title track The Lucky Ones, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don't Bored, Never Gonna Cry Again, Bored and Happy Now. You already did Coffee in Bed. The songs are all very different. For those with no music video great idea you have to show the lyrics. Please show the lyrics for Never Gonna Cry Again - you need to hear every word in that song. Have fun with Midnight in Tokyo! If you like EDM you will like Messer.
I think they did some layering where there are more than just 5 voices at one time on the track, but it is still acapella. The whole album has more layers than they typically do.

This was written by Mitch and a couple of other songwriters -- Maureen McDonald (who co-wrote "Wrecking Ball") and Jesse Shatkin (who co-wrote and produced "Chandelier" and many other songs for major pop stars). Shatkin also produced this song. I suspect that Pentatonix are tired of not getting the radio play that we Pentaholics think they deserve and are trying to get out from under the "a capella" label. Also probably the reason they are switching labels.
Of all the songs added as part of the "deluxe" reissue of this album, I think Petals is my favorite. However, that said, I am obsessed with Exit Signs as well. One of my favorite Kirstie songs.

Another way older EDM style original song written by Kevin and Avi is “Show You How To Love”. It was some of their first experimentation with EDM that found its way on PTX Vol. 1 back in 2012. If you listen to this one, you can really see how they were trying to find their lane and niché in the music industry. Then they just decided to do whatever they felt like and the rest is history/herstory!! 😄

Anchor is my favorite off it, along with Petals, and Never Gonna Cry Again. there are 18 songs on the Deluxe edition of TLO and i WOULD love to see you react to all of them if you're up for it!! the songs on it are not all strictly acapella - TLO was an opportunity for them to experiment and they used quite a bit of layering, production, and occasionally real instruments. really cool stuff that i hope they do more of, tbh. this album has a really unique sound that i think fits them very well. looking forward to what's next from you!!
PTX released the Lucky Ones then a few months later they released the deluxe version. Deluxe has some very cool songs. Anchor is my most favorite song ever I think!❤️. Many fans lobbied PTX to release an official video for this but they were involved with Evergreen and it never happened. THANKS so much!!!

While I tend to prefer their stripped down stuff, I love that they continue to be brave and creative with seeing how far they can stretch the envelope. Just finished rewatching their Sing Off season again, and the same mix of drive and willingness to risk it all to create something new that helped them win is still evident today. I would much rather they continue to be themselves and feel rewarded and stay together than conform to some box they can't breathe in ❤ (We'll be their anchor?!) That said, I'm a total Mitch fan, and I love, love this song and the last one you reacted to, "Coffee in Bed" - "Superfruit writing for PTX" is how they both strike me.

I love this song so much. I think Kevin or someone said that this was written quite a while ago, but they never could figure out which album they should put it on. It makes me wonder if there are other gems that they written, but haven’t recorded yet.
I think they feel they have proven themselves as being an acapella group. They are adding more layering, vocal effects and such to try to compete with the "radio" music out there. I would listen to any of their stuff over some of what is being put on the radio currently. They really deserve radio play besides their Christmas music! They have been pigeonholed and are trying to compete. I don't blame them. They still say if they are using any "instruments" besides their voices, I just think the effects they are using are making it seem like something else. Before I forget, there are two very important performances that you should check out. Piggybacking off of how enthusiastic you were over love again. Some of the earlier dubstep / EDM vibe songs. The problem is I'm not sure which one is better the live or their studio version. 🤷🏿♀️ first is the swedish House Mafia mashup save the world/don't you worry child. That one is 🔥 studio version because Avi does some epic dubstep sounds at the end, can't recall if he does it live. My other suggestion of a more pop/house vibe mashup is the star Vista Singapore concert version of break Free / see through. Both are throwbacks but definitely worth the watch. It is just wonderful - the beat, the lyrics are hauntingly beautiful and the unmistakable voice of Mitch in the lead and with the backing and the ear candy. Yes, please do the entire album!! This album is their 10th Anniversary celebratory album that came out in 2021. So many good songs, PTX originals, including the title track The Lucky Ones, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don't Bored, Never Gonna Cry Again, Bored and Happy Now. You already did Coffee in Bed. The songs are all very different. For those with no music video great idea you have to show the lyrics. Please show the lyrics for Never Gonna Cry Again - you need to hear every word in that song. Have fun with Midnight in Tokyo! If you like EDM you will like Messer.
I think they did some layering where there are more than just 5 voices at one time on the track, but it is still acapella. The whole album has more layers than they typically do.

This was written by Mitch and a couple of other songwriters -- Maureen McDonald (who co-wrote "Wrecking Ball") and Jesse Shatkin (who co-wrote and produced "Chandelier" and many other songs for major pop stars). Shatkin also produced this song. I suspect that Pentatonix are tired of not getting the radio play that we Pentaholics think they deserve and are trying to get out from under the "a capella" label. Also probably the reason they are switching labels.

Of all the songs added as part of the "deluxe" reissue of this album, I think Petals is my favorite. However, that said, I am obsessed with Exit Signs as well. One of my favorite Kirstie songs.

Another way older EDM style original song written by Kevin and Avi is “Show You How To Love”. It was some of their first experimentation with EDM that found its way on PTX Vol. 1 back in 2012. If you listen to this one, you can really see how they were trying to find their lane and niché in the music industry. Then they just decided to do whatever they felt like and the rest is history/herstory!! 😄

Anchor is my favorite off it, along with Petals, and Never Gonna Cry Again. there are 18 songs on the Deluxe edition of TLO and i WOULD love to see you react to all of them if you're up for it!! the songs on it are not all strictly acapella - TLO was an opportunity for them to experiment and they used quite a bit of layering, production, and occasionally real instruments. really cool stuff that i hope they do more of, tbh. this album has a really unique sound that i think fits them very well. looking forward to what's next from you!!

PTX released the Lucky Ones then a few months later they released the deluxe version. Deluxe has some very cool songs. Anchor is my most favorite song ever I think!❤️. Many fans lobbied PTX to release an official video for this but they were involved with Evergreen and it never happened. THANKS so much!!!

While I tend to prefer their stripped down stuff, I love that they continue to be brave and creative with seeing how far they can stretch the envelope. Just finished rewatching their Sing Off season again, and the same mix of drive and willingness to risk it all to create something new that helped them win is still evident today. I would much rather they continue to be themselves and feel rewarded and stay together than conform to some box they can't breathe in ❤ (We'll be their anchor?!)
That said, I'm a total Mitch fan, and I love, love this song and the last one you reacted to, "Coffee in Bed" - "Superfruit writing for PTX" is how they both strike me.

I love this song so much. I think Kevin or someone said that this was written quite a while ago, but they never could figure out which album they should put it on. It makes me wonder if there are other gems that they written, but haven’t recorded yet.
Kirstin said it was 2014/2015 but Mitch corrected it as 2016ish - he said it was during his emo hair.

I think they feel they have proven themselves as being an acapella group. They are adding more layering, vocal effects and such to try to compete with the "radio" music out there. I would listen to any of their stuff over some of what is being put on the radio currently. They really deserve radio play besides their Christmas music! They have been pigeonholed and are trying to compete. I don't blame them. They still say if they are using any "instruments" besides their voices, I just think the effects they are using are making it seem like something else. Check out Bored or Never Gonna Cry Again for something really wonderful! Thank you for your reactions to these guys!

Before I forget, there are two very important performances that you should check out. Piggybacking off of how enthusiastic you were over love again.
Some of the earlier dubstep / EDM vibe songs. The problem is I'm not sure which one is better the live or their studio version. 🤷🏿♀️ first is the swedish House Mafia mashup save the world/don't you worry child. That one is 🔥 studio version because Avi does some epic dubstep sounds at the end, can't recall if he does it live. My other suggestion of a more pop/house vibe mashup is the star Vista Singapore concert version of break Free / see through. Both are throwbacks but definitely worth the watch. Also Yes you should just check out the full lucky ones deluxe album please and thank you 🥰🙏🏾

It really seems like an album that would fit well with what he seems to like, from what I've seen. So I agree, that it might be worth a full listen for him!
