    Yup .. that there's a genuine old-time sound, all right .. close your eyes, and one could well imagine being instantly transported back in time to the hills, in the 30s & 40s. A great tempo .. & that lovely no-fuss old-style banjo has a distinct ring to it ... not shared by any kind of more modern-day instruments or music.

    This is real old time folk music, it precedes and supersedes this "technique" that you talk of, there is no right and no wrong with folk music, and the way that he is playing is probably the method used by whoever passed down their playing style.

      TheGhost5600 ADADE fifth string to first. Double C tuning but a whole tone higher. He's playing a shorter scale neck, hence no capo.
