I think it depends on the type of people with Autism and ADHD as those with High functioning Autism could be a benefit to certain areas of the British army. I remember from five years ago when I was a learning support assistant there was a student I was supporting who was quite intelligent and always wanted to join the army but due to his High functioning Autism back then was not allowed to join the army. I think the Gov and MOD need to start really thinking what benefits they can provide to those who choose to serve.
Here's my shit dit on the matter. I joined the army in 2016 and went infantry, did 6 years, and then got out in 2022. Started dating my now wife in 2022, and she eventually pointed out that I have both minor Autism and ADHD which I had never known that I had. After consulting doctor with the NHS, I was officially diagnosed earlier this year. I placed in the top 3rd consistently through my 6 years and completed FTCC in Brecon just fine. This isn't anything new. All militaries since dawn of time had people with minor learning disabilities and most of whom would have been totally unaware of it like myself. I have also noticed most gym rats I know are massive nerds with a touch of the tism, myself included. One guy in my training platoon was vocal about having Autism (more obvious than mine anyway), and he wasn't discharged or backtrooped. Yes, we took the piss out of him, but he took it well, and he put in more effort than any of us, and got through fine. Hope that rests some people's concerns at ease.

Theres a lot of undiagnosed tisums going on in the army and from my experiences/observations its probably the best place for many of these guys. The amout of learning support and just general life support you get in the army is immense. There are so many systems in place to support anyone with anything they might need. I worked maintenance and construction for 15 years before i joined (Yes joined very late), and the level of support you get in the army is just amazing compared to whats out there in civvy street. I think people of the spectrum can have a lot to offer but i am vwry dubious about letting people in with chronic fatigue and issues like this. Able bodied people can struggle especially by the time you get further on. Training is just the start and in my opinion dosnt really set you up for life at unit so its gonna be shit for someone with physical issues.
I applied on the 6.02.24 at the age of 35. Due to needing further medical evidence from the NHS, who kept cancelling my appointment for about 4 months my application was put on hold. I eventually got to Pirbright for assessment in September and passed….on deferral with a known issue my regarding my ear. Apparently 13 of us had the same issue. I then had to get another opinion about my ear. Basically my right ear is slightly less of hearing but enough to keep me out of the Army. I was then given the all clear but at this point I turned 36. So I then had to wait for a Colonel in my chosen Corps to accept me. I finally have my start date of 5.01.25 for Pirbright. As you can imagine I am relieved. It’s basically taken 11 months for my application and even then it’s been one big appeal to get there. *Along with the fact I had to go private and pay to get a doctor to sign me off with something I’m grateful for the Army in believing in me and giving me this opportunity. And I look forward to basic training. I do think however some aspects of the medical DEFINITELY need to be looked at.
Good luck! I rejoined at 35 (reserves though). There will be times you feel ancient and you're statistically at a greater risk of injury, but I am still one of the fittest in batalion (infantry), and the age and life experience only make you more mentally resilient.

That's ironic. Because 3 years ago I tried to join the army when i was 18. Passed my selection. They told me I can't Because of my autism. And now that I'm 21. They have the audacity to pull this. It makes me laugh and furious all at once.
Mate there has been lots of people in the army with adhd and autism the crucial aspect is the level of such conditions, the others aspects you mentioned are more the crux!
I was rejected in 2020 for a misdiagnosis of ADHD when I was 14. I appealed it with a document from a psychiatrist which disputed my diagnosis and they still wouldn’t let me join. I’m currently trying again 4 years later.
I agree if the individual wants to serve and their medical condition is not severe they should be allowed. I think lowering the standards just to fill numbers is not the answer, but that said I’m surprised our government has not announced mandatory conscription.
Too many non-British* people, it would cause absolute uproar in some communities. *(I'm making the distinction between those who are British citizens but were born elsewhere or self-identify with their heritage countries).
Serious question im contemplating joining but i have a strange heat/cold/water allergy 🤷 in this scenario u think they will take me ? Besides that im way more fit than other 30 year old smokers or 30 year olds in general
I agree with the thought, but there are some diseases that even if you have a minor case you shouldn't serve. ME is definitely one of them - if a soldier hits the wall when they have ME they're down for the count for possibly days.
Surely if they want to get the numbers up, they can. Loads of people apply but its just too slow and then they make up loads of reasons to not let people in. They could probably do it without lowering the standards though but medicals have become ridiculous so this is possibly a good move.
Having cold hands and cold feet makes you medically unfit to serve. But yet everyone will have that in their lifetime. like many others have said it’s capital that’s the problem.my decision was decided by a doctor that’s working from home and rejects anyone. Cushy well paid job these capita doctors have if you ask me.
One of my Sons is in the RAF, stationed in the Falklands at the moment. He is twenty and loving the life. As a close family we will miss him at Xmas, however, we will do it again when he comes back to the UK in January. My Son and I have both come to the conclusion that the Gurkha regiment should be expanded. We need a fighting force, not a defensive force. Improve the living conditions on some bases, and keep their salaries attractive. Incidentally, The Gurkhas are in the Falklands at the moment mountain training.
The standards of recruits in general is abysmal and staff at depots are being told to get them through no matter what, if they ever have to go to war the majority of them either won’t be fit to fight, or will refuse to fight the Army is in a shambles and it all leads back to the woke policies of successive governments.
ADHD and Autism I get my head around you can understand as a case by case basis chronic fatigue problems I'm not sure about. Someone who's physically fit to be a rugby player could be physically fit to be in the army BMI measurement is silly. Recruitment should go back to the MoD to the relative surface branch should have control over recruitment.
In college, i asked at the open day if I could join, I was told by somebody in the military that criminal records are a stain on my application. Is that true? I'm 32 now, so older and moved on from the idea. But I was surprised that I was told assault charges meant that I wasn't what they were looking for, which is ironic, because assault is bad but murder in uniform is allowed.

This was a really good assessment of the situation. Personally, I think the recruitment offices should just take back control of the process. Those that serve know what they're looking for, can get a good sense of someone and may have a good idea of where you'd belong quite quickly on, you get the situation explained well, they can encourage actions like joining exercise groups etc. (Plus it's a possible career path/role for those serving, who fancy a few months office work to decompress. 🤷♂)

I agree the BMI is utter crap but like your previous video the application process is far to long and also the pay is a disgrace to pay soldiers what they earn to go to war needs to be looked at should be a starting point after training of 30,000k per year
let's get this nailed down once and for all letting the difficulty lower we will get less actual decent fighting soldiers. what about the fighting age males in hotels across the UK, Wales Scotland and Ireland what happens with them blokes i would love a video or a video about this but i will wait as i imagine you won't answer or do a video
Drop the enlistment age to 14
