Force or force engagements using MILES gear system has improved simulated combat training since it was introduced in the late 1970s. My experience was in my first unit in Germany in the late 80s. This forced unit commanders down to the small unit leaders to think and use their tactics wisely to avoid casualties as if on a real combat scenario. Individual soldiers start to think for themselves as taking cover, moving by using obstacles and terrain to their advantage to avoid getting hit emphasizing better combat drills and tactics. The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat. This type of training pays off in real combat with close to real world outcomes. Grenada, Panama, and Desert Storm were short conflicts but it had the least casualties but effective combat leadership under any worst case scenarios. Somalia had the same stressful situation too. Iraq and Afghanistan where US Forces fought the longest since Vietnam didn't have the same casualties with two different theatres of combat and terrain. Small unit leadership was key role in combat. This is not Call of Duty using a TV screen and a controller, this is putting on real equipment with food, water, and blank ammunition to go on a simulated combat training to see if all your training was worth it. It's not LARPING because you might not know it in the future that you will go into combat with the training you did.
To whatever army/DOD reviewer and PAO is watching this to ensure compliance - this is real and exactly the kind of video that needs to be shown to future recruits, especially infantryman. I hope that these motivators are promoted, not reprimanded, for keeping it real on camera.

Side note: That 1SG is a real one! It's crazy how different the military can be depending on where you're at. I've never had leadership like him before. Happy to see his troops have amazing leadership to look up to. Shout out to that drone SSG, the OPFOR LT, and the OPFOR CPT as well. Unfortunately, I've only ever had people like that full bird and the two star. I understand the logic and reasoning behind it, but those kinds of leaders just make people get out.
I hope they do a follow up segment with Fletcher particularly when it comes time for retirement
I don't say this lightly: Sgt. Fletcher is a national treasure.
Love these videos. As an Army vet. They never show the police call or bullshit details there’s joes will do after training 😂
AGREED.
Yea buddy kitchen police all evening! 😂
Love these videos as well, its fascinating to me as an outsider, not mentioning the comments! I feel I am starting to get the jokes in HellDivers 2, this video is pretty much what they played on those monitors while in the battleship, and its crazy to realize they were not exaggerating 🤣
Man I've seen like 100 documentaries about army stuff but the fact this shows real personalities makes this one of the top 5 I've ever seen. Please keep making these - so awesome! Even if its about another exercise like this one would be awesome!
it’s great to see these exercises and combat scenarios. especially as joint readiness with other nations.
I want to give credits to the chemistry between the camera person and the producers for getting those guys to open up and make this worth watching
This is the FIRST time I’ve ever seen media capture the true culture of the infantry. Catching the ins and outs of REGULAR infantry troops in an environment such as this. It’s like seeing my own guys on TV. This is absolutely without a doubt some of the best recent embedded journalism I can think of.
I used to enjoy playing army as a child. This is the ultimate playing army with real weapons and lots of other goodies. I never got to do this while in the army myself, but the trainIng would have rocked.
Im currently enlisting in the Army, 11b, I hope to God I can meet up with number 23 in my lifetime

New Zealand artillery has proved themselves in battles from WW2, Korean War and Vietnam. Great allies.
Next you should check our the Cold Weather Combat Survival school in Alaska and JPMRC-Alaska at the Northern Warfare Center. Much slower paced - larger area and less hospitable weather - but I think it'd be a good follow up.
Or if you want to stick around the jungle climate, there's also JRTC at Tiger Land, Fort Polk, Louisiana. I think that one is a bigger scale than JPMRC-Hawaii.

I appreciate SPC Morales' efforts to take the training seriously, but what he will come to learn when he picks up stripes is that often the goal of these exercises is not to see "who won" but to see how the evaluated unit responds to worst case scenarios. He and his squad did their job taking out that squad of OPFOR, but for the sake of training, OPFOR might tell you to go down so the rest of the platoon can respond and get their training in.

I don't think they have virtually unlimited rounds per magazine.

It's great to see the Army focusing on small commercial drones, heard DJI drones mentioned a couple times.

Probably the best documentary on a Military FTX. You definitely captured the hurry up and wait and sheer bordem in shitty and unusual places service members deal with.
*Thailand training with both the US and China* - “I’m playing both sides so I always win”
Sgt. Fletcher is the GOAT. The man can't be stopped. #23 back at it again.
LOL @ having random civilian contractors flying scout drones in this operation. It’s like a bunch of kids in an epic backyard battle, and your uncle shows up with a cool remote-control helicopter to help spy
This is the best documentary/inside look into the military I’ve seen. Absolutely incredible
1SG Fletcher is the 1SG I want in combat. I had one with a similar personality, but a bit older. Cool, chill, funny, and lovvvvveeeeddd his guys. You want guys like 1SG Fletcher fighting our wars.
But are you one of the guys that he wants you in his platoon/company tho? it goes two ways; you need people who are already in the same wavelength and putting their weight & more when asked too
Gotta love Fletcher! Figures he's a skater from the 90's. Makes perfect sense.
That 1SG is a straight gigachad
And they are using DJI which is a Chinese drone 😂
You uh think the PRC doesnt use TH-cam chief?
@@nmvidro the PRC doesn't use yt, but some people inside the the PRC do. There's a difference. The US does not conventionally use dji for example, but some people in the USA do
They don't use DJI. They use something even cooler that they won't show you in these videos.

Good job capturing the spirit of combat arms troops. - former combat medic Hawaii
Most Americans think the Army just occupies ground the Marines take. Of course, that’s not the job of Army infantry and combat arms, which fight offensively and close with and kill the enemy on the ground. But for some reason this narrative that the Army only defends and doesn’t attack is very prevalent. I like docs like this that show what the Army is actually training for.
This shit is so sick. This is one of my favorite videos on the interwebs.
awesome work, this isn 't just another youtube video it's an elite level documentary! I especially liked 1st Sgt. Fletchers narrative and the trajectory he appears to be on moving forward, great stuff!
1SG Fletcher, don't worry about what you will do after retirement. That's when you get to decide what YOU want to do.
Do something that involves your hobby. Hell open a skate shop somewhere and mentor young kids through it.
21:10 bro had the villain smirk and laugh. 😂😂😂
General Flynn got a star on his CIB. Let that sink in.

Whats wrong with those drones? They are used extensively in every theater right now usually with an artillery round strapped to them
