Questions and feedback are welcomed in the comments!
darn it.. i watched this and bought three new adventures..............stop it Mongoose! *I want a new character walkthrough.. those were fun*
Ugh. I completely agree about your comments about spaceship construction in the basic rules. I'm a little cranky about looking into buying the 2.1 publication, but your review really helped. You stuttered a bit in the descriptions, but I generally rate videos by a ratio of how often I right click versus total length. As I measure videos practically, this is a GREAT video. It needs more views.
noice & yes I welcome ANY Traveller content
agree about Agent of Imperium ... just finished it a couple of weeks ago... was great reading how Miller saw the 3I
Sweet! New Ardwulf Traveller!
Please consider doing some new character creation videos, specifically for a prisoner and a psion. There are no examples of either that I could find on TH-cam. Appreciate it!
Thanks to you I have spent hundreds of dollars converting over to Mongoose Traveller! Thanks Ardwulf.
Love the Traveller content!
Thanks for the flipthrough!
Pretty sure the Psion career was also in the original Mongoose Core v2 book. In it's own section near the rear IIRC. Haven't messed with it yet. I wonder if they added any more Psi abilities in this updated version.
Oh, it was, if that wasn't clear.
Always happy to see more Traveller content
Thanks very much for all the various Traveller content, keep it coming.
Great video. Enable scrolling makes is smoother to follow along you jumping around from page to page.
Mongoose should pay you a commission - I've been looking for "the" right Traveller version for me (I already have the Classic bundle) and this sounds just right for me. Thanks for the in-depth look.
Yay! I've been looking forward to seeing more from you on this, as I'm teetering on which of this kind of scifi rpg to play (I plan on soloing it). I'm leaning towards this version due to all the online products and support. I love the online map site.
I would quite enjoy seeing how someone, anyone, solo's Traveller. 100% would watch
Looking forward to your overview of the Pirates Of Drinax campaign.
Would love to see more character creation content.
The 2008 version is really superb as far as capturing the Classic Traveller vibe and plays really clean. The new books are quite pricey since they have a Paizo vibe for colorful art.
15:31 They still haven't fixed the 6-year-old Space Encounters D66 chart, that mentions how encounters in bold cannot be ignored.
Out of curiosity, does this "complete toolkit for scifi" thing mean the starship construction rules offer options for other sets of tech assumptions than the classic LBB ones? Eg FTL options beyond the stupidly fuel-hungry J-drive, STL drives that require reaction mass and all the attendant issues that creates, FTL communications, semi-autonomous weapon & sensor platforms like 2300's Star Cruiser uses, defensive shields beyond the rare and exotic Black Globes...that sort of stuff.
Interestingly the PDF version he is showing has more content than the actual book. I have the hardcopy book and my page 100 shows everything down to Vacc Suit and doesn't give any data on the Hostile Environment Vacc Suit or Battle Dress; however it it does show the notation on battle dress being able to support it's own weight and that I doesn't count against encumbrance.
Obviously I'll need to take a look at that.
Good to see white pages. White text on black pages is tiring for me to read.
Dude - I just rolled up a new char for a campaign and my guy went to prison after a mishap and ended up 16 years inside before I got parole. Looking forward to playing him though.
It is not possible to put everything Traveller related in one book. A Core Rulebook should, as the name implies, contain the core rules. This should comprise everything that you need in order to play any published adventure and maybe some things you need to create your own adventures as well. While the construction of spaceships is an integral part of Traveller, it is not something you need right away in order to play. I think that's the reason why the old Core Rulebook for 2nd edition did not have these construction rules. The Core Rulebook gives enough ships to get you started. I really don't mind that they put construction rules for vehicles, spaceships and robots into seperate handbooks/supplements. It is just too much material to include in the Core Rulebook IMHO. To my understanding the spaceship construction rules in the Core Rulebook 2022 are not complete, so you would like to buy the Highguard Update 2022 as well anyway.
As for the Aslan and Vagr, I think it would have been better to leave them out of the Core Rulebook. It does not give nearly enough information to enable players to play a Traveller from these races anyway. If you check out Aliens of Charted Space Vol.1 you will see what I mean.
How does this handle XP / skill advancement?
I have the mongoose 1e rulebook. Rules for advancement are sparse and lacking clarity
Prisonner was in 2ne edition as well.
And in TNE!
@@ardwulfslair I'm surprised! I owned the main TNE rulebook, but I can't remember rules for prisoners. However, I lost all my Traveller stuff in the mid-'90s, so I haven't seen any of it (CT, MT and TNE) in about 27 years (though I got a Starter Traveller PDF last year).
No, the Robot Handbook isn't out yet.
The PDF of the Robot Handbook was released June 24th, 2022. The printed book is scheduled for the end of 2022.
how different is the 2e vs the 1E? So different that 1e is obsolete?
Not very different. The major change is just the reformat, plus including some stuff that was originally in other books, but which is normally part of Traveller core rules. I would not feel obliged to upgrade if I had the older core book plus High Guard.
Why does everyone say nice cover? It is clearly ugly. Copy paste art.
You're the only one who thinks this. Just think on that.
