Dang, that 55 runs! Love the control saw idea. Unfortunately for me I’ve never ran a 346 but it’s still a good idea that gives me a little perspective. You guys are going to make me send one of my little Makitas off to someone! lol 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video! I have a 55 that looks like that. It has been a very reliable little firewood saw for the past 16 years. Last year I had it rebuilt and a working saw port job with a muffler mod done to it by New England Saw Works. Much more torque, I can lean into it a bit more than I eased to. He did a great job, super nice guy. He also rebuilt and work saw ported my stihl 460 about three or four years ago. Same thing, more torque and idles forever. I’m a ported saw convert for sure.

There’s definitely some crazy awesome 55 Husqvarna saw’s going to that race!!!! It’s definitely going to be crazy interesting to see what happens and then see what it’s doing inside to make it work that well!!! I’m still confused about what.325 chain is faster cutting then 3/8 RS?
Nice build Joe. An auto-tune saw is nice for a baseline, saves tume tuning for conditions. Cole was using a 550mk2, not sure what he uses now. The stand looks great. Do you like the chains over straps?
"Definitely not a saw you're gonna go cut firewood with" Why is that? I many times hear people say that about very sporty powerful saws and I would like to hear the reasoning. Is it that the saw is potentially gonna overheat? Just wear out too quickly? Something else?
You can use them for fire wood but you have to have extra chains and swap them out the second it's dull. When you build a saw that screams, they over rev and burn up when dull. Some saws also get hot if used for long periods of time because of the extra compression.
This one has epoxy holding the intake block on. Any extra heat will crack the epoxy and cause an air leak. Also the heat transfers into the carb really bad. Vs a runber boot which isolates the carb much better
At 7.06 you can here it revs higher than the previous rev tests with the same carb settings. What is the reason for this. I have a saw that does this and it positively doesent have an airleak
Blowdown doesnt matter as much for rpm as exhaust height does. Mine has a 97° roof and revs past 15k but doesnt pull anywhere close to that. I imagine Joe has optimized the cylinder to feed and scavenge better and crankcase to pressurize charge better.
The exhaust is at 99* and medium blowdown. All the ports have to compliment each other to really get things working well. Time,, area, shape all play a part
Is Joe east of the Mississippi? Because he never cuts big wood. Saws that can handle 16-20" bars need to be tested in 16-20" wood. Otherwise they're just whistlin Dixie.

Joe, you’ve got that 55 VERY lean compared to that 346x. You need to work more on making your “like to like” comparison.
The 346 definitely could have went a bit leaner, I know that 55 does not care for being rich at all

what is the exhaust at on that saw? do u need a short or long blowdown to get the saw to rev high like that?

I haven't watched in a little while do you like to work on the bigger saws 72cc-120cc stuff.
I prefer 50cc+ but tend to port most all sizes

Yeh, I'm east of the Mississippi.. just cut what I have access to. Which tends to be big stuff or smaller stuff.
