Another great video! I must say battlecruisers were the best looking warships ever built.

Especially these two, they really are very good looking ships.

Very interesting. And a splendid production. I love how you were able to expose how Fisher had to resort to a bit of subterfuge, via letters requesting more supportive letters, to help his case with the Cabinet. We used to call it 'weasel wording' and it was an essential skill when trying to get something past the Treasury. "Isn't this just yet another sniper rifle?" they said. "Oh, not at all. It's an anti-mine and IED disrupter". So that was signed off, and we got another excellent sniper rifle (that could do other things!). It seems the only things that change are the media of communications - e-mail instead of letters, and Whatsapp messages instead of quiet chats in St James's park.

You’re a brave soul for watching these older videos. I really should bring back the battlecruiser revival series, they were very interesting to make!

Greetings and salutations, I'm super impressed with the channel. I've been working my way through the video catalogue and have been both entertained and educated immensely. Being proudly Australian, I'd love to see some content on the many and varied ships of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The story Scrap Iron Flotilla is one I'd love to see your take on or HMAS Melbourne, an aircraft carrier that sank more ships with its bow than its planes. Regardless, I look forward to seeing more content on whatever you do decide. Cheers mate!!

Thanks for the kind words! I’d love to do some videos on Australian ships! Do you have any book recommendations so I can read up on them before making a video. But, it probably wouldn’t be for a while there’s going to be quite a long series on the Gneisenau coming out here pretty soon!

Very interesting details, like originally being a 2 x twin turret design, thanks.
Now I'm going to look for more information on Fisher's Baltic idea.

Interestingly the Renown class were especially once refitted as Renown was a perfect foil for Panzerschiffe, the Scharnhorsts, the Kongos or even the Alaska class

Were the Alaskas 'Large Light Cruisers'?

Gonna start some fights in the comment section with that! I will steer clear of that minefield thank you very much.

@@ImportantNavalHistoryi agree that it could bring a few arguments. Borderline ship classes tend to agitate naval enthusiasts.

@@SwampCritter-df4od Large Cruiser was the official designation. Except for Britain no country used the term ‘battlecruiser’ anymore. Super heavy cruiser would have been the term best to classify them, since they lacked proper torpedo defense.

That's a good question .... didn't US navy call them large cruiser?

Geez! A 6 inch belt? Geez!!! Of course in the inter-.war years they scaled it up consistently.

Never really saw the point in battlecruisers especially the renown and repulse the RN should have built 16 QE class with small tube boilers giving them 28 knots and improved the speed of heavy cruisers to 33 knots as you could build 2-3 of these for one battlecruiser at this time and a heavy cruiser at this time would have 9.2 inch guns
