I'm just jealous. No yacht anymore, circumstances. Nice to see this. You guys know your limits by experience. Last video I saw was abandoning yacht (Dove 2) after the main sheet broke. I wasn't there, but I think that skipper got a kind of panic attack. Good thing is, they got rescued (man, wife and two young children). But really, letting go such a great yacht, I am sure you would have sailed it home and he didn't. I must respect his choice, again I wasn't there, who am I? Sailing a family, losing your rudder, getting wife and children rescued, would you try sailing solo using an emergency rudder? Depends on the ship and the trip ahead, I guess.
Fantastic video. I am very impressed how the First 42 handled these conditions under a small headsail alone. And very pleased to see that the cockpit drains were working!
I had to turn back when I was sailing my Cutlass 32 from Kirkwall Orkney to Walls on Shetland and onward to the Faroe Islands. My bottle had gone due to the increase in wind knots. I never ever made it to the Faroe Islands. A cracking video of how bad it can get.
the sole fact that you spent time and energy setting up the cameras in such conditions is reason to give you credit. plus: awesome result, great sailing
Fantastic!! :-) Have sailed over there a few times myself. From Leirvik. One was close to that weather. Had to repair a sail on Shetland. He would not have any money for the job. He had seen me come in ;-) Wonderful people. Nice movie. Thanks!!
That's a bimini, you got the wrong word. And what's wrong with naturism? All that emphasis on swimming garments is so Victorian Century. Get rid of that nonsense. Those years are the past.
Awesome video! It’s actually about sailing. So many of them are about the people, their baby, and the dog. The boat is almost an afterthought. And good on them if that’s what you like, but this is what I want to sea. I sail with a friend on his 32’ sloop but I can’t get used to the boat listing hard over like that. You’re so up-close to those waves you could kiss them. There was a couple of 5:58 times there when the ocean almost kissed you back! Thanks for sharing your experience with the rest of us. Fair winds and following seas! 🌊🌊🌊⛵️🌊🌊🌊⛵️🌊🌊🌊
The Benetau 42s are nice--sailed one down in the Leeward Islands last year. You were hauling ass with just that small rag up front. but those beam seas can be nasty. Good on you for making that run in the winter! (good thing you had those big balls for ballast)
Admiring this crew, their professionnalism and courage ! Very interesting video ! The most astonishing is that they seem to have pleasure by sailing in these rough conditions ! Congratulations from Canada, Quebec
I have learned to ride a motorcycle and I wish to experience the seas. I will now learn to sail. I will soon purchase a boat and I will sail the world with my dog. Mr bean.
raymond myhre hi this is great . Isit possible for a boat to ever turn upside down when in rough conditions ? I would so love to travel the world and buy a boat
Great sailing skills !!!! On the first time i was quite angry with you cause i thought that you was solo !!!! But after i saw the rest of the crew and i said to myself : OK these real seamans!!!!!
Most of the time it is bad at the North sea special in winter . I have seen breaking waves you do not believe they exist , it is a very shallow sea , that make it so dangerous .
Slashley gibbins don’t think so... saw few accidents videos in much less risky waters. in my book this was russian roulette but he is tough as s nail to deal with it coz I would shit bricks
Alright boys, here’s the plan: we’re going to sail like Vikings to an island where we can act like Vikings and then sail like Vikings some more! Those were some gnarly conditions and everyone acted like it was a day sail on the bay. You guys are hard core.
Man this video brings me back so many years... During our holiday many years ago(I think 1991, at least before we had GPS) our family crossed the north sea from Denmark to Norway in similar conditions. My brother got seasick, puking his guts out and my mother was crying and whimpering that we all were going to die... Meanwhile my dad and I were stearing, handling the sail and manually navigating. I think we were both internally shouting:"Yeah bring it on!" lol Those were good times and like some comments say: too bad the camera doesn't do any justice. Great video man!
🇬🇧 Absolute quality 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 BTW that wave 06:23, trust me I know when I say there's no better feeling than that 😂😂😂😂 that's (part of) what it all about & I can tell you loved it. 🇬🇧
Other than fu**ing cold not really so bad. Nothing like being in late November crossing the Stream on the way South on a 1935 wooden 68Fter going bare poles and still going 10-15 knots and dealing with truly mountainous seas in the middle of the night. Nice video all the same.
Strange, whenever you see a small sailboat sailing in these kind of weather it's most likely a crazy Norwegian behind the rudder! Ser gøy ut.... her fra sofaen 😁
My kind of sailing as well, No ladies and kids onboard, just pure fun in the waves. I park my kids and wife back home when go sailing as they got seasick just watch the water in the toilet. Wonderful movie, love your sailing.
Great video, thanks for posting. What a horrible place the North Sea can be! I've sailed across the Southern Ocean but have never been as sick as I was in the North Sea coming back from Holland to England during a winter storm. Very nasty seas. Good on ya and fair winds!
This video really brings back memories. I never sailed in the North Sea, but spent plenty of time singlehanding in the Southern Ocean and the North Atlantic (Iceland and the Faroe Islands). The waves never look as big on video as they do in real life.
I'm in awe of proper yahts men and women. A skipper once advised me to try a long night sail from firth of forth into north sea to see how I'd manage on a longer trip with his crew....... didn't end up crewing for them 😅 Its a very underestimated skill.
You guys are crazy. I hope everyone was strapped in at all times. God forbid someone slips and goes overboard, in this weather, no guarantee youll find them. The worst ive sailed was 45 knot sustained winds, cant imagine what this feel like after a few days non stop.
thanks we are not so crazy but this is sailing for us, we are trained to sail in such conditions, for us it is always safety first. and we are strapped
Great video.........… I've sailed in conditions similar to this. Until you've done it you have no idea how difficult it can be. Loss of concentration or one bad move at the wrong time and you're toast.
Stupid question. All of my sailing has been coastal British Columbia and Haiti. There is flotsam aplenty and at times heavy timbers that may punch the hull. Also Orcas and seals however they are curious and nonaggressive. Sometimes scary! At sea have you had the occasion to be imperilled by floating obstacles or large sea life? Hats off to your skills, bravery and acquired knowledge. The early Norsmen and Pacific Islanders would accept you as an equal.
I agree, every ancient boats are better, mine is 30 yeas old, nowadays s/v are built for clients who go from pontoons to pontoons in summer and never sail at night, not for sailors.

thanx
No stupid music also...
Gatekeeping sailing... Good lord.
Great sailing !!!!!
I like bikinis
THIS is what I wanna see when I search, “Sailing videos”!
Bravo!
Your viking ancestors would be proud of your skill and courage. Great video. As far as I'm concerned, that's sailing!
thanx :)

Sweet sound of the wind and the sunder of waves ? That's the music !

Cäm??
there is someone with him bro
Those waves are huge! In person they look 3 times bigger than on camera. Awesome video!

I have to admit Raymond I'm really impressed, I absolutely envy people like you guy's...thanks for the vid I enjoyed it, really well done.

Anders Jakobsen thanx
We admire you and your companion sailing the north sea. It is only N. S. You are so brave and strong. Thanks
Finally! A real sailing video. Thank you!
That's the best sailing I've seen of all yachting (so far)...They never show their yachts going through heavy seas. That's what I want to see
thanx
the best sailing video in rough seas that I have seen!
Thanx
❤️ We Loved ❤️ the music of the Wind ! ! 🇨🇦🙏🏽
...and the howling breeze is the icing on the cake...grt stuff.
The First 42 seems to be a seaworthy vessel. Great shots, thanks for sharing!
Great footage for me to watch. One of my preparations for a solo circumnavigation will be the North Sea in winter - thanks for sharing.
thanx
Oh my!
At last,a real sailing video.
Fantastic.
thanx
This is amazing! I want there to be more sailing videos like this!
Finally a sailing video on TH-cam that’s not BS. Beau travail les gars.
Awesome!
Must be difficult to have your croissants and coffee on the cockpit table, in those conditions, in the morning! 😐
Cheers, Rich.
haha yes it was, but we managed to drink coffee :)
That was awesome 😎. Massive swells and waves. Good video too. Thanks and best from HKG 🇭🇰
Ah, a proper sailing video. Thank you for sharing this 👍
Guys, Now that is a Kick Ass Video, real Sailing in Real weather, First I have found on TH-cam. Thank you and God Bless!!

Hi Haa ! Nice Swell indeed ! :) Refreshing after watching all those cute couples fighting for their lives in 20knot gale on 8ft rogue waves... LOL !
this is great sailing! really liked this video...real sailing. thanks guys! post more please
where is the girl in the bikini, dont all boats have one
Sorry pal, does not apply to North Sea in the middle of the winter :P
No sorry it’s the mans boat lol

You do it big. Others go to hawaii you go to the artic lol. No kicking back in the sun there. That's real deal sailing.

I have learned to ride a motorcycle and I wish to experience the seas.
I will now learn to sail. I will soon purchase a boat and I will sail the world with my dog. Mr bean.
I stopped with a motorcycle because it was too dangerous and more focused on sailing, great to start sailing instead

Soaking wet, freezing cold, caked in salt, and seasick. What could be more fun?
2:00 I like the red and green wrapping on the helm pedestal, just in case the helmsman forgets which side of the boat is which... :-)
That's why I watch NBJS channel!!! Great sailing
While it looks really bad, the boat handled those conditions no problem. Great helmsman.

I’m look to sign on to do 3 legs of the Clipper Round The World Race, doing most of the southern ocean stretch. This look like serious high adventure,
great plan! nothing can prepare you for the southern ocean but sailing to the Faroes via the Shetlands is a good prep...
Tell me about the boat! The cockpit drains wonderfully. No wind vane? Constant hand steering? Ouch. Excellent job though!!!
thanx, benatu first 42 1992 mod .No wind vane Constant hand steering autopilot damage before crossing
It’s a wonder you didn’t capsize with those gigantic balls you have 👍
newer capsize in this boat :)
Chris Hanford - hahaha :D
his balls prevent the boat capsizing
The heavy keel keeps the ship in balance, as well as good steering.
He has twice as many balls as I have.
well-done guys. no main, just a bit of jib and you guys must be doing 15knts... good job
