This was great, thank you! I'm new to the industry and was looking for something exactly like this to help get up to speed. Looking forward to the next parts!

Good stuff. Alarming about nuclear U235 exhaustion. Don't we need a very high capacity energy storage device to bridge the times when there is no wind or sun? Hydrogen? Are you in Formosa now or just designing from UK? I think you mis-spoke at 30 mins: "three square meters will create quadruple that".

Thanks! You are right, I did misspeak. I wouldn't be too alarmed about U235 exhaustion because the potential benefits of breeder reactors and reprocessing means that it would last for hundreds or even thousands of years if we needed it to. Effectively we use it at very low efficiency at the moment.
Your point about storage is very valid and is to some extent an elephant in the room that no energy company has wanted to address. However it may not be as critical as I once thought. For instance, with proper home insulation we can store energy as heat in our buildings, meaning that some degree of load control could be used. Effectively we turn off home heating for a few hours. Equally, the rise of electric cars means that, where they are plugged in, they would be capable of operating as storage devices. Interconnectors mean energy can be bought from elsewhere and if all else fails we could fire up gas turbines. So yes, we definably need storage but I don't think we need as much as I once feared. I'll go over it in the final section.
Finally yes, I am on the Island of Formosa at the moment. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I have a mortgage and I would rather not have a mortgage. I'll hopefully be back in a year or so.
