You're not required to have experience to take the test or get certified. Tableau gives suggested amounts of experience though. Three+ months for desktop specialists, 5+ months for associate, and 12+ months for professional. Based on what's in the actual exams, they must expect that you progressively are doing more advanced things in tableau over that time.
