Love you Sam, but you need to look into the real causes of the Great Depression. It was government monetary policy out of WWI that led to it. The stock market crash was the result, not the cause.
Also, the government spending limped us along, but we didn't fully recover until WWII when we started sending supplies in 1939. After the war, we were on top because the rest of the world was economically devastated.
The stock market was recovering, then we instituted tariffs...... As far as bank collapses. Small banks bought regulation to prevent banks from having more than one branch (to keep the big banks out). Come the depression, and banks in failing areas ran out of money. The branched banks in Canada didn't fail. Also, the Fed, whose role was to stop bank failures, failed to act. The recovery occurred after the war. There was little commercial production during the war. it wasn't much better than during the depression. The demand was huge after the war. In addition, we produced a lot of what Europe and Asia needed to rebuild.

I find myself speaking much like you which is having to filter everything multiple times to try not to offend the drastically growing self identified groups and beliefs that have so many nuanced sensitivities.
No because it's the Socratic Method. When I taught students painting and drawing I would have to make contact with 20 student's, twice in a 3 hour class. I have to listen to the student and then cater my questions to that student. i would have to have 40 different answers to explain many connected Ideas. The problem is to remove your bias from the answers so the student doesn't get stuck in your thinking but in opening up the questioning in their own brain. It worked for me because I had over 90% retention in my classes with a high score on student evaluations and my peers feedback on when my students went on to other classes. Just to add some context to the abortion conversation. 1. Its important to note that every single significant prolife intuition and speaker has always advocated for terminating pregnancies if the life of the mother is in jeopardy. So in the case of the woman that was turned away and died it would be important to know the details of the situation to determine if its a case of medical providers following the letter of the law or what probably happened, which is medical mal practice. 2. to say that our country doesn't care about healthcare for women is totally wrong. Women have way more access to specialized healthcare than men, men have lower life expectancies and more cases of chronic illness. Spending in our country on womens healthcare dwarves that of mens. 3. If we took the same concern in this country that we showed towards women that die of pregnancy related deaths, and applied that to deaths by men in workplace accidents we wouldn't even have a cultural (or gender) divide on this issue. Men are 6 times more likely to die in a workplace accident than women to die due to a pregnancy complication. Just look at the data provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the CDC.
Just like most of the abortion argument this is just more misinformation from the Pro Abortion crowd. Amber Thurman died of medical malpractice. The pro abortion argument is that Georgia has banned D&Cs. This is not true. You can perform a D&C if there is no fetal heartbeat. In Amber Thurman's case it is unclear because the case details aren't being released however, she did take abortion pills days prior to going to the hospital with pain and bleeding. There was no legal reason not to perform the procedure in her case. Basically, nothing in the law preventing the hospital from providing the care she needed. Reading through the case notes it seems more like the wrong combination of blood pressure medications was given which caused complications that snowballed in a poorly staffed emergency room in the middle of the night.

It's easy to dismiss statements such as you'll cry my guns from my cold dead hands as civil war talk and invariably it would probably lead to a civil war. However it should be noted that various politicians have been elected on the premise of confiscating weapons and while not specifically rhetoric those kinds of campaign promises do Inspire such rhetoric from the other side but in context is not nearly as outlandish as you might feel it is.

@nickmiller0371 the hunter Biden laptop story affected the outcome of the election. There were 20 million more people that voted in 2020 that just vanished in 2024. (You can search the numbers online). He doesn't mention the fbi agents that incited j6 as well as Nancy saying we got him after the riot started and after denying more cops. He said youtube is where the fake news is. Has he seen cnn, msnbc and view. Not to mention he is on youtube. I love the thinking and the conversations he has on this channel but he missed on this one.
Trump lied about the election being stolen. He launched the plan of fake electors. He pressured Mike Pence to take unconstitutional action. He invited his supporters to the capital on the day of the certification and had them march to the capital. He did everything but put a gun in their hand.
I appreciate the conversations, but you're way off. Roe was shakey case law. The national guard confiscated guns during Katrina. The great depression wasn't fixed because of the new deal, it was ww2.
One thing I'd counter on his Jan 6th take is that the 2020 cycle was unique due to covid. My biggest issue is that you had judges and election boards changing election laws outside of the state legislatures. From my understanding, those were the majority of Trump's lawsuits but were drowned out by his election fraud narrative. In terms of Trump's culpability for the riot, I'd say his rhetoric leading up it stoked it but i don't think he would have predicted what happened.
"I like you. You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid." The beginning of the end was when we started listening to kids in the 60's. I was one of those kids.
Sam, you deserve a lot of credit for figuring out a way to dodge the difficult abortion question - At age 73 I know of not a single person who’s against abortion in the case of life of the mother, rape or incest…The prescient question can be reduced to whether abortion should be used as a remedy for casual sex, especially when other methods are quite readily available…So in this sense, abortion has really seldom to due with either ‘women's healthcare’ or as you put it ‘the [unfair male] patriarchy’… I would submit that a far better approach to this difficult question would be to apply the Socratic method of critical thinking, thereby providing one the logical tools to work out the truth on their on… In my view, It’s high time for folks to exit this abjectly failed idealogical partitioning (aka, slice & dice intersectionalism…) offered by post-modernist philosophy… Very Respectfully; know too that overall I do very much appreciate your typically fine approach, and the personal investment you make in our younger generation :) !!
I think it was Benjamin Franklin that said something to the effect, "A republic, if you can keep it.” --Benjamin Franklin's response to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"
Love this channel. Jan 6th was an embarrassing spectacle, so I had to dive into it. I haven’t seen much evidence proving trump’s claim, but the mail-in/absentee ballots were essentially brand new to the masses in 2020 and democrats received far more than republicans. We saw in the current election it was much more even and there was a much different result… obviously, there are quite a few more factors at play, but the 2020 absentee vote disparity is worth looking into.
Regarding tariffs, Trump has said he wants an even playing field with countries that put tariffs on American products and countries, like China, that aim to destroy other countries industries.
The Republicans had a record turn out as well, ~9 million more. I suspect Google was a significant factor: th-cam.com/video/7zi_VcNXCKA/w-d-xo.html This year, Google was monitored, and the Republican's didn't need any help.
California has approximately 100 gun laws, the most of any state, and comes out with four or five new ones each year. Many of the new laws are unconstitutional, but it takes years to overturn these unconstitutional laws. I’d say, right now, the politicians in California are trying to take away the right to own a gun or buy ammunition from as many people as possible and to make it too expensive to sell guns in California.
I think Sam is off on the Jan. 6 stuff and this alleged mocking of a disabled reporter (he's done those gestures many times! just unfortunate this one instance lined up in terms of IMAGE with the physical disabilities of the reporter ) , but, still, I think Sam is incredibly fair to Trump on a lot of topics.
Sam, please add Actual Justice Warrior to your TH-cam watch list, and then watch his video on Trump mocking journalists. You will get a new perspective.
Sam. You said you didn't vote for anyone. But i would like clarification on that. Did you vote for a principle belief and not a specific individual? Or did u not vote at all? That statement wasn't clear. Secondly ..In your opinion was this the most important election of your life?
When he states he didn't vote "for" anyone, it seems clear he was implying he was voting >against< someone. From that position, it would be easy to fill in the blanks with the appropriate names.
@@Littlemans It doesn’t take long to discern, even excluding those context clues, where Sam stands by listening to some of his other talks. He’s a wet white libby noodle lol pause video at 7:13 and you’ll get it
Because someone titled something a border bill doesnt mean it is about the Mexico/US border. That border bill would have sent more money to Ukraine than the southern border of the US.
I am a little surprised he didn't touch on breast cancer awareness when discussing women's issues. As an over 50 woman, I have never had an issue getting quality healthcare.
Nobody criticizes Laurie just because she is a woman. The real reason is her obvious bias, her negative influence on the discussion and - to be completely honest - simply because she is somehow annoying. At least in this setting. Sorry. Of course it's a lot easier and more comfortable to pretend the reason is that she 's a woman, but if you're honest you know just as good as everybody else that it has absolutely nothing to do with that.
Unfortunately, there will always be a hierarchy of some kind in the world. A meritocracy would be best. But, in some instances, you would value strength or nurturing abilities over other attributes. As for reproductive rights, both women and men deserve the same rights. If a woman isn’t held liable for the responsibilities of a child, a man shouldn’t be either. This is equality.
This is the reason I don't regret turning down scholarships in the US. As an Asian person with a vast experience of extreme poverty and the gap of rich and poor? I would easily walk out of his class. For one as a teacher you teach. If you want to present your opinion do so. But stand firm to your belief even it's the answer the other does not want to here. Here you can see he flip flops and that's not a good sign. Yes it's true his a man not a woman, so he cannot have the same emotions and thinking of one. But even as a man or woman, we understand one thing in life a natural truth. END OF LIFE. It shows he does not have a firm stand because his conflicted with his moral values and todays University culture. If the way he answer is not to hurt the feelings of others. Then his pretentious not genuine.
Exactly, Sam’s become a bit of a ‘pearl clincher’ - pandering to destructive leftism is precisely why the West has lost it’s way…Just check the nihilism of America’s most prestigious vassal state, the EU…
Interesting the he says that it is stupid to say "you can take my gun from my cold, dead hands", and then says that if the government were to try to do that, there would be a civil war. That is exactly what "you can take my gun from my cold, dead hands" means - civil war
This is just oof @7:18 He's basically saying don't try to fight for your country or freedom. Just imagine what our founding fathers would have said to that or our leaders from the civil we had previously.
Trump as a 3rd party is ridiculous. He would have got hammered and undermined by all sides. No chance if he started a 3rd party. He would have been impeached and Pence would be pres.
Many people have looked into that and she was publicly doxxed with little compassion and no warning about being Baby Roe until that point. She had said she won't be used by either side though she said she had a good life as an adopted child. Jane Roe, Norma McCovery. ended up recognizing that she was used by her lawyers and the pro- choice cause. For short while, she joined the pro- life cause but decided she didn't belong with them either. She ended up confirming several times during the years that she thought abortion should be legal but only in the first trimester.
90% of this was completely biased and not based in any fact. 1 of 2 things happened. No research was done into the matters before speaking or it was intentional.
The professor needs a little education on roe verse wade. It was a ruling by the Supreme Court, it was not a LAW passed by congress and signed by a president I truly hope she understands the difference
Do the unborn have the right to life or not❓ Add to that is…Generally, the life of the mother isn’t on the line. It isn’t a complex issue. If the child has a right to life, the mother nor the father have the right to usurp the child’s life. Simple as that.
Talking about the amazing achievement, that the USA despite of all the atrocities happened there, experience only one civil war, is kind of premature. Compared to other major Nations, the USA is an infant considering it is just 200-300 years old. There are Nations, which have 500 years of peace without a civil war.
Support for Kamala is almost exclusively self-serving. It just doesn’t feel that way with the Trump supporters I know. I could be wrong. I do try to not live in an echo chamber though so hopefully that has been helping my perspective be less biased.
This was such a good conversation. I literally cried 😭 The story about driving past the abortion clinic hit me so hard because I feel that every time I drive past my local one. it's just so sad.
There have been much better conversations but that story was telling. Too bad Prof. Sam didn't take 10 minutes to read about the medical neglect the woman he mentioned suffered. She should have been treated and by law, could have been. Doctors choose to not treat her.
Calm down bro. No need to get so effing emotional all the time. You're meant to be a teacher, not a performer of psychic bullying or foregrounding. It's a class, not a performance. What exactly are you teaching?
The prof is talking about his decades more of life, yet he still believes mainstream media tells the truth, ever. Kind of sad that someone is so inquisitive and yet so easily duped by bad liars.
Unfortunately, some politicians have publicly advocated taking guns from citizens. Also, many economists think that government intervention and the New Deal actually prolonged the Great Depression. Also, many people erroneously think that WW2 ended the depression. I am surprised that people think deaths of hundreds of thousands of young, healthy working age men and the destruction of $billions dollars of material (bombs, bullets, tanks, etc.) HELPED the economy? Really?
WW2 put the US manufacturing and food production into overdrive. Unemployment dropped by half. I believe, Women employment doubled. Yeah, I think WW2 helped us out of the depression.
50:44 fact check... he did not know... Quote "“I merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago. If Mr. Kovaleski is handicapped, I would not know because I do not know what he looks like. If I did know, I would definitely not say anything about his appearance.”
One woman died, versus how many babies this year? Thats the question you all should be considering. Abortion should be illegal when its intention is just birth cobtrol. Period.
I appreciate Sam's comments on how even "grab'em by the p*****" and Trump's mocking of the NYTimes reporter didn't move the needle on his support. (Especially when anyone else would be out of a job and lose their career under the same circumstances) I've wondered about that for YEARS. Sam doesn't know other than something bigger is at play. Historical forces. What a time we live in. I wonder what sociologists will say about this 100 years from now. (Hi from NC 🇺🇸 love your channel)
Yes, when you’re a superstar (politician/athlete/billionaire) women will throw themselves at you for vanity or your money or to promote their careers. Sort of reminds me of Clinton hitting on anything that moved. (Except Hillary). Didn’t seem to damage his career or popularity amongst Dems.
48:30 Sam was 100% wrong about the disabled reporter. You can clearly find evidence on youtube of Trump mocking anybody he considered flustered (videos of him mocking himself, Ted Cruz, and many others the same way) and doing it in the same exact manner as he mocked the reporter. It is entirely just an unfortunate coincidence that the dude's disability looked like the way Trump mocked him. Brandon Straka started the #WalkAway campaign and "left the left" after he saw the videos disproving this very thing.
If anyone is confused as to why nothing ever seems affect Trump's popularity, its because none of these things ever turn out to be True. Pretty much every smear ever told about him turns out to be false or completely out of context. For instance, he never said he actually grabs women's privates. He merely commented on what women will allow you to do when you're a celebrity. He also never mocked a disabled reporter. He also never said white supremacists were "good people". The fact that people repeat these lies to this day shows how effective negative propaganda can be.
Professor, you are way too butthurt by the election results to be teaching these kids anything right now. Take a two year sabbatical, maybe working on a Nebraska ranch, get outside your safe little State College bubble. Then never go back to teaching again.
@4850937 yes...he was commenting on the fact that these types of women would let famous men or rich men do anything to them, even grabbing them by the pussy! 🙄

Interesting comment.
"I like you. You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid."
The beginning of the end was when we started listening to kids in the 60's. I was one of those kids.
Sam, you deserve a lot of credit for figuring out a way to dodge the difficult abortion question - At age 73 I know of not a single person who’s against abortion in the case of life of the mother, rape or incest…The prescient question can be reduced to whether abortion should be used as a remedy for casual sex, especially when other methods are quite readily available…So in this sense, abortion has really seldom to due with either ‘women's healthcare’ or as you put it ‘the [unfair male] patriarchy’…
I would submit that a far better approach to this difficult question would be to apply the Socratic method of critical thinking, thereby providing one the logical tools to work out the truth on their on…
In my view, It’s high time for folks to exit this abjectly failed idealogical partitioning (aka, slice & dice intersectionalism…) offered by post-modernist philosophy…
Very Respectfully; know too that overall I do very much appreciate your typically fine approach, and the personal investment you make in our younger generation :) !!
I think it was Benjamin Franklin that said something to the effect, "A republic, if you can keep it.”
--Benjamin Franklin's response to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question: "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?"
Only question I have is why there were so many more voters in 2020?
Strange isn’t it! Democracy, etc, etc were hanging in the balance and yet 18 million Dem voters failed to show up. 🤔
Democracy hung in the balance and yet 18 million Dem votes failed to show up
@@glasshalffull2930 "Largest voter turnout ever".
81 million votes. For sleepy Joe. Yeah, sure...
The Republicans had a record turn out as well, ~9 million more. I suspect Google was a significant factor:

This year, Google was monitored, and the Republican's didn't need any help.
This sounds like a funeral for an uncle you hate. Praying for these kids.
can't believe i can watch this channel from my living room in Korea. Thanks for all these insightful talks.
💯🎯
I think Sam is off on the Jan. 6 stuff and this alleged mocking of a disabled reporter (he's done those gestures many times! just unfortunate this one instance lined up in terms of IMAGE with the physical disabilities of the reporter ) , but, still, I think Sam is incredibly fair to Trump on a lot of topics.
What part is he off about?
@@Chaos31all of it
@@Fillosophah_king I was watching the event when he made the retarded gestures about that guy. So that’s kind of accurate.

I didn’t realize that Sam is such a leftist. Guess it makes sense. 🤷♂️
How’d you miss it??
This is a class? It's a frickin' colosseum of people!
Sam, please add Actual Justice Warrior to your TH-cam watch list, and then watch his video on Trump mocking journalists. You will get a new perspective.
Why are kids in class, not taking notes?
Best episode yet. I loved the thoughtful answers, but even more so, it felt like he opened up and we got to know him a little better.
Yep and it might be his downfall
Overall I think the professor has a good grasp on reality compared to prominent voices on the left, but believes the news way too much.

It doesn’t take long to discern, even excluding those context clues, where Sam stands by listening to some of his other talks.
I disagree...The government prolonged the depression. Markets will correct without excessive regulation.
Where was this professor when I was in college? Sam and his wife are amazing people.
The only thing that got us out of the depression was WW2.
BTW- India has 22 nuclear power plants and has an additional 18 reactors planned.

Different kind of slavery? Could you elaborate?
Nobody criticizes Laurie just because she is a woman. The real reason is her obvious bias, her negative influence on the discussion and - to be completely honest - simply because she is somehow annoying. At least in this setting. Sorry.
Of course it's a lot easier and more comfortable to pretend the reason is that she 's a woman, but if you're honest you know just as good as everybody else that it has absolutely nothing to do with that.
Surprised the class didn't want to stay the extra 15 minutes, I'd love have this class and listen all day long
Unfortunately, there will always be a hierarchy of some kind in the world. A meritocracy would be best. But, in some instances, you would value strength or nurturing abilities over other attributes.
As for reproductive rights, both women and men deserve the same rights. If a woman isn’t held liable for the responsibilities of a child, a man shouldn’t be either. This is equality.
I like sam but the constant virtue signaling and self flagulation as a "privileged white man" is nauseating
This is just oof
@7:18
He's basically saying don't try to fight for your country or freedom. Just imagine what our founding fathers would have said to that or our leaders from the civil we had previously.
He’s just a teacher
Trump as a 3rd party is ridiculous. He would have got hammered and undermined by all sides. No chance if he started a 3rd party. He would have been impeached and Pence would be pres.
I wonder if the roe v Wade baby is pro choice or not? lol bet nobody has looked into that
Many people have looked into that and she was publicly doxxed with little compassion and no warning about being Baby Roe until that point.
Complete and utter nonsense.
Many subjects the professor does well/balanced
When it comes to subjects about women, he does not look at the full picture and shows a partisan-bias
Very few countries have a continuous government or that haven’t been conquered.
Can you name one nation that has existed as one contiguous government without a civil war or change?
Support for Kamala is almost exclusively self-serving. It just doesn’t feel that way with the Trump supporters I know. I could be wrong. I do try to not live in an echo chamber though so hopefully that has been helping my perspective be less biased.
I don't think ranked choice is the answer to the two party system. There are states that use it and we still get dems vs repubs.
I linked this to a few places. I really appreciate the talk on this
This was such a good conversation.
What about health care for children and unborn kids.
is there not health care for children and unborn kids where you live?

The prof is talking about his decades more of life, yet he still believes mainstream media tells the truth, ever. Kind of sad that someone is so inquisitive and yet so easily duped by bad liars.
Its a pity that he has to censor himself repeatedly during this recording.
Personally, I think trump was 95% responsible for jan6, it's just not remotely what it's being made out to be.

Time will tell.
Ahh, because it's not about him nor his flaws. His "support" is looking beyond him to policies, outcomes, and critical decisions.
RIP Pnut and Rico
Lol very complex way hilarious

What does moving to Nebraska ranch have to do with uploading 3d renderings on youtube?
