I completely missed the absolute non stop stallion that is Tambourine-guy on first watch. Now I've seen it about a dozen times and he's all I'm watching, lol You go Tambourine Man!!!!
Fun performing? ... check out Leo P on the bari sax from Too Many Zooz. Dunno what that guy's been smoking but you need to practically peel him off the ceiling after a performance. I keep wishing PMJ would do a cover with him.
I love PMJ for the music, musicians, vocalists and Tambourine Guy. The visual performances are just icing, and this video was great and gave the same vibe as what I'd expect back when MTV played music videos. Smells Like Teen Spirit, Buddy Holly (Weezer), Basket Case, etc. were good videos that weren't performed live, but they were fun.
I prefer the old videos; much more raw and emotion-evoking than the cold, clinical feel of the production of this video (i.e. the wind machines, intro and outro, and so forth).
I agree with you, honestly that intro was so boring , i have heard some saying that they are just changing , but they are great becuase of their music so they do not need to add anything to make the videos more special
As a self-proclaimed lover of all things music "except jazz" PMJ has had me questioning myself for years. I thought it was just envy of the oozing sexiness of the girls that I would love to embody, but this has just proven to me that it's actually about the pure perfection of adapting musical styles that has made PMJ a go-to of mine every time. Thank you for opening my eyes to the possibility of jazz and how men can ooze that ooziness too. Recently subscribed to Scottlee too. I'm recently separated from an 18 year relationship and your music used to make me feel sexy all alone in my kitchen. Now, it's my soundtrack to my newly found self-love and my budding new chance at love. Thank you so much 💖
There are a lot of different kinds of jazz, so most people are going to like at least some of it. I cannot stand the kind of meandering instrumental that never seems to end or go anywhere type of jazz, but some people live for it. I love this stuff though!
I fell in love with PMJ because their live one-take videos were incredible, the energy that the musicians put into the performance was irresistible. I aspire to be that type of performer! The editing/production of this somehow loses that magic. I can see how animated Casey and Scott are but I can't *feel it* in this format because the editing doesn't match the performance, I'm not as engaged or not drawn in like I was with Stacey's Mom, Creep, Duck Tales etc. We've lost that raw talent that the one-take gave us. I can't *see* how talented these musicians really are as it's lost in the format. I'm not a purist or against change (I'm happy to see you experimenting with content, I like the skit at the beginning) but the editing/format of the actual music section has lost the magic and power that I know PMJ can deliver. There's not many groups out there that create live one-take style content so, respectfully from a fan, I love the one-take style performances, it's what makes you special, please don't lose sight of that that!
The irony is that the entire point of the opening sketch is about that very thing. The other people are into a button that plays pre-recorded, heavily-edited music while Mr. Manbun is showing them live instruments in one take.
Charlie Vetsworth oh I see, you’re going around calling everyone with an opposing opinion to your own ‘toxic’. That’s not what that word means, calm down.
@Charlie Vetsworth Really? Is this really a necessary comment? I care, and clearly others do too. This is a massive step away from why a lot of us fell in love with the band. Your over the top reaction to someone else's opinion is pretty pathetic
I absolutely love this one as much as I love all other stuff from PMJ! I don’t care if looks too much of a production or if is not perfectly synced... I just enjoyed their version of the classic Toto song and I the way they highlight difference between electronic and instrument music...
I was thinking that's a in-joke. Perhaps guitar was banned from PMJ (at least in season 1), so they're poking fun at themselves -- and perhaps announcing that that ban has been lifted for S2. But that's all just speculation.
Drew Davis if they did ban it, it would have had to be after the Barbie Girl cover- I guess it's more like banned sounds like band? Or like you said, that they often don't use them?
The whole story joke was that this was set in the near future with "postPostmodern" instruments , that is basically buttons that played predeveloped series of sounds with no thought going into them. Guitar was probably banned in that time period because it was to radical or something. They were playing from the behind the counter stash. It's a fun dig at how electronic music could evolve but more importantly how awesome old school is. Everyone is getting all upset about what postmodern jukebox has always been about.
If they had a ban at all (and remember, I'm just speculating), I think it would just have been a humorous way to put their preferred styles. A "covers of pop/rock, but with no guitars!" kind of thing. Certainly they use them when they need to, especially the bass guitar. (No way to do Motown without one of those, with all due respect to their upright string bass players.)

4:21 Is nobody going to mention the guy in the chef outfit who walked in, took a big bite of raw spaghetti, shot some confetti out of a tube, and left?
To those of you who are commenting on Casey's singing, the vocals (Toto) were originally sung by two different members. One with a high range, and one with a low range. Not many people have that diverse of a range. Frankie Valli had an extensive range, as does Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Steve Martin from The Left Banke.
Love the three goofy dudes, Casey's cool vocals and glorious hair, Adam on the bass, Scott on the piano, tambourine man, the dancers, random chef with the confetti - this video is a celebration of PMJ and I am into it!
Not quite sure about this one. I always loved the simplicity of the one camera + musicians. I do like the arrangement (great arrangement!) and music-wise no complaint from my side, but the video ... Funny and perfectly well executed ... I can't quite grasp it. I miss something. Perhaps it is just some kind of "good old days"-stupidity on my side. Anyways, I'm off now to buy "Blue mirror" and will check the upcoming tour dates. ;)
Calm down there Charlie, you're being far more toxic than anyone else here. Some people certainly are overreacting to this, but simply saying that this one didn't work for them is hardly "not letting PMJ try new things".
I apparently am one of the few who love this video and have watched/listened to it over a dozen times. The intro was hilarious, stinkin hipsters, and the singing had a raw quality to it that I don't often hear. The music was classic PMJ and it all came together quite well.
- "We're gonna need someone to do a guitar solo on this track." - "What about that guy who composed the main theme for 'The West Wing'?" - "...That was the first dude that came to your mind?" - "Yup."
Good thing: the MV style allows close up to everyone in the video, giving a chance for people to see all the musicians. Less good thing: it loses the live singing feel that we all love about PMJ videos. Oh well, we can't expect them to stay exactly the same forever, they will want to evolve and try different thing at some point. So, we'll see where this goes. P/S: Casey Abrams and Tambourine Guy in one video were everything!
Love that PMJ is back, and Casey Abrams is the best forever. That said... UGH. I really hope this is a one-off and every new video doesn't come with 1:30 of 'comedy' in front. Also the idea that there's REAL music and there's electronic music is deeply unnecessary. Many different kinds of music can exist! And for eff's sake, Africa... if only the internet could get over this song already. This is one of the better covers, but it could have been anything else...
Wow, surprised at the hate. I thought it was a lot of fun! It's obviously a special "We're back from break" video and I assume they'll go back to their standard format after this.
@@justanotherself3916 You said it there. The only issue is: routine kills art. If PMJ actually _do_ stop trying new stuff they'll fade... and all the people who whined about every new experiment will be complaining that they suck now, but won't be able to articulate _why_. If Scott stuck to repeating the popular without experimenting... PMJ wouldn't even exist.
People acting like criticism is a personal attack. Ironic someone makes a snowflake comment while themselves being upset by opinions. His voice doesnt suit the song. The intro was cringe and tonedeaf Ita not hate its just opinions so feel free to grow up
+Gonk What's fake about this? They just wanted to do something special for the new season. This isn't going to be a regular thing, and it certainly doesn't warrant the level of vitriol that's been generated by so-called fans.
Just because you think it was poorly executed doesn't make it fake. They wanted to try something new. They're allowed to do that. If you didn't like it you can say so without attacking their integrity.
I didn't attack their integrity I simply pointed out something the mass consensus everyine hears and see's so next time they can improve on this new thing if they do it again.
So, if I can be totally honest here, I fucking LOVE these guys and will listen to their songs over and over. But, this is one of the first ones that I don't think I will watch more than once. I love Casey and Scott and pretty much every other cover PMJ has done, but this was too different for me. It's cool that they tried something new, and there is promise here, but I hope they arent moving away from their live format because I feel that really puts a lot of the heart and soul into what they do
6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
Also audio was out of sync in many places. Kind of ruins the experience, but I liked it a lot.
I think part of the problem here is that the high harmony in the original was really what made the song. Those harmonies were the very "hook" of the song. It's sort of like making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich . . . without the peanut butter . . . i'm with you. Totally love PMJ but this one just doesn't work for me.
Ye I don’t know what it is, I think the original is so smooth and this is very sticatto so maybe sounds off. I also feel like this version doesn’t sound as full which this song needs
I Absolutely LOVED IT!! If they were to do it on every video then yeah it would get boring. But as a promo? Its frickin genius. Well done PMJ. I love you guys.
Thank you. Yes it was terrific. Everything has to be Oscar-winning performance? I don't think so. We love our groups. I see them in March 2020 in Orlando. I am damn ready.
UP! Maybe the acting a bit creep but the intro is a mirror for the nowadays music and the full clip want to show us real instruments are the best. It's totally ok here, it can send the message.
I liked the arraignment, not much you can do with Africa, it is what it is. However Casey just did not hit the buttons for me. I love Casey and PMJ so I thought this would have been a slam dunk for me. I like it for what it was, but its not QUITE there for me. Good job to PMJ, love the style and can't wait for the next ones.
Don't make me get your father here Jesus. This is not the kind of place for that language. He will be very mad when he omnisciently finds out you posted this.
For me it's just the pretentious atitude of that intro, making fun of people who produce and create music from their computers. Like I'm a musician, and I went down that path of hating people who made beats with their computers and made music because I thought it was dumb and that it made them stupid because they didn't need the cordination of playing an instrument. But i can tell you after workng with producers and people who do that shit, its a hard process too, "making beats" is honestly just a hard of a process creating as writing the music and preforming it. So the intro really rubbed me the wrong way and really tried to look down on those type of people
@@antoinephan622 Im a jazz drumset player, trust me I understand that jazz music is no longer in the mainstream, and the "It's cool" was entirely sarcastic. But I think that if you want to show people that jazz is a cool style of music, its probably best to just play it and show how cool it is, not belittle other styles of music.
I thought it was subpar. Just didn't like the sound. The vocalist wasn't suited for this particular song nor the "'50s"-style of music it was played in. I didn't find the orchestration very interesting either.
@@porsche911sbs Exactly, and most importantly after watching and listening to the Leap Frog cover of the same song. That's far more interesting (to me at least). Not hating Casey and PMJ at all, I was on 3 of their shows even when they were playing the first few times in Europe an the closest show to us was 2 countries away.
I know some people have a problem with the production of this video, but overall, I really enjoy it. I’ve watched it multiple times. It makes me happy.
Just like to say I love this cover holmes... I love the fact it plays like a 70s musical. I love the vocals. I love the acting and the characters.. Lead singer rocks.. looks like animal from the muppets.. Legit.. Love it! 👍👍🏽🤪
I adore the cover, and appreciate the step up in production quality, but honestly I think the 'sketch' at the start was kinda unnecessary and wasn't very amusing
Yeah it was REALLY painfully pretentious and reeked of "muh real music is dead because new stuff isn't the way *I* like it and *my* music taste is the only good one so they must be talentless hacks"
Mr. Bradlee, Please just keep making great music and videos. Please don't shove yourself up inside your own ass. Sincerely, One dude who likes you just the way are, big guy.
I think people in comment section are missing the point of this video. Getting to live music, learning how to play an instrument and mastering the ski!l. There was a time when some one in the neighborhood gave piano, drum, guitar, voice lessons. Now everything is digital and auto tuned, there isn't passion to learn how to read and play music as much. I'm not saying digital beat making isn't a skill or an art form ,but it's nothing like the real thing. This video is sending that message. This is a great promo video for the jukebox.😍

Tambourine guy and the Chef! My 2 favs!
Great music, and singing by Casey Abrams, with some humour thrown in. Classic Casey Abrams, Loved it.
Love the three goofy dudes, Casey's cool vocals and glorious hair, Adam on the bass, Scott on the piano, tambourine man, the dancers, random chef with the confetti - this video is a celebration of PMJ and I am into it!
Piano man is giving it his all. Kudos!!
That intro was kinda unnecessary. I prefer the live recording setup to be honest.

I think this is just their way of saying “We’re back for season 2”
@@matthew8153 i feel like this is like tripping over your own two feet right out of the gate.
First feeling was cringe.
Second feeling was awkwardness.
Third feeling was enlightenment.
In the words of eric andre, what in the god damn hell are you talking about?
I think this is just a one-off season intro. I'm sure they will perform it live on tour and knock it out of the park.
@@sporf_sporf I know it's 6 years later, but he's hardly toxic...
*Here comes Season Two!*
Yes, season two. Spot on!
Ok so the sheer awesomeness of a great gutair solo is truly shown at 4:16 and I'd have to say it's one of the coolest things I've seen in a minute 🤘🤘
I LOVED it! Real music! With instruments and everything!!! AMEN!
I said it once and I'll say it again. I think this is fantastic from the story, to the set, to the playing, to the singing. Great video.
Will you say it one more time? My wife didn't hear it and she asked if she could hear you say it.
@@danroberts9050 Of course, anything for her. This video was fantastic in every way. Pass on my love to her, and tell her that I think of her often.
@@XDSDDLord I will. Thank you!
Ничего общего с гениальной композицией Великого Тото Кутуньо!?
I apparently am one of the few who love this video and have watched/listened to it over a dozen times. The intro was hilarious, stinkin hipsters, and the singing had a raw quality to it that I don't often hear. The music was classic PMJ and it all came together quite well.
I hereby declare this the coolest band on the planet!
I swear i have listened to the song 100 times. Love the creativity and the fun of this version.
I want Casey to cover every single song that was ever made
I want to see him with Robyn %)
I wish Him to be more recognisable because he definitely deserve it...
Ja również Olu. Nie miałbym jednak nic przeciwko temu, aby Haley Reinhart śpiewała razem Z Casey'm ;)
- "We're gonna need someone to do a guitar solo on this track."
- "What about that guy who composed the main theme for 'The West Wing'?"
- "...That was the first dude that came to your mind?"
- "Yup."
I guess if that's the only reason you knew him it would be a weird choice.
Que grande el colo Mc Allister la rompe en todo lo que hace 😂, tremenda versión 👏👏👏
Tambourine Guy makes everything twice as good!
Edit: 100x better 😍😘
How do we keep the focus on Casey with tambourine guy in the background?
PMJ: Editing.
Holy Pat Riley! Who knew he could play guitar?
I loved this song anyway but this just made it perfect. The whole story around it is brilliant and I could listen to Casey Abrams all day every day.
AMEN to the comment about the so-called "comedy" at the beginning. I'm here for the music not high production.
2:31 and a smile is immediately on my lips for tambourine guy
Nobody ever brings up 4:37 .
One of the best videos from Postmodern Jukebox!
Wow, surprised at the hate. I thought it was a lot of fun! It's obviously a special "We're back from break" video and I assume they'll go back to their standard format after this.
People like routine
welcome to white america, a snowflake's finger is just sitting on the trigger, waiting to show the world what a narcissistic idiot he is
gisforgary what?
@@justanotherself3916 You said it there. The only issue is: routine kills art.
If PMJ actually _do_ stop trying new stuff they'll fade... and all the people who whined about every new experiment will be complaining that they suck now, but won't be able to articulate _why_.
If Scott stuck to repeating the popular without experimenting... PMJ wouldn't even exist.
People acting like criticism is a personal attack.
Ironic someone makes a snowflake comment while themselves being upset by opinions.
His voice doesnt suit the song.
The intro was cringe and tonedeaf
Ita not hate its just opinions so feel free to grow up
How to achieve total happiness and bliss: Get a tambourine.
Slaktmaskin lmao! The way he just fking pops out! Hahahahaha
can't believe i hadn't seen this before. awesome video. great arrangement. excellent dance.
Walter nailed that solo!
I can understand the "purists" not holding this as their favorite, but I liked it. It's cool. Gave it a big thumbs up.
Some ppl like fake some ppl don't.
+Gonk What's fake about this? They just wanted to do something special for the new season. This isn't going to be a regular thing, and it certainly doesn't warrant the level of vitriol that's been generated by so-called fans.
k it's just not done well and the singing didn't sound good, double negative is all which warants the vitriol.
It's cool that they tried something new, and there is promise here, but I hope they arent moving away from their live format because I feel that really puts a lot of the heart and soul into what they do
Also audio was out of sync in many places. Kind of ruins the experience, but I liked it a lot.
@ I enjoyed the clip, but it was the first time I've noticed the lip-synching. Have they always done that? It did detract from the experience.
@@mattcarroll2725 I dont think its lip syncing, you just notmally record audio separately then sync
@ aah, I see. Just the audio and video a little out of sync. That's reassuring. Thanks.
Did anyone think the mix sounded a bit off on this one?
Casey's vocals seemed quiet or muffled. It felt a little off. But I'll allow it because they're experimenting. :)
Ye I don’t know what it is, I think the original is so smooth and this is very sticatto so maybe sounds off. I also feel like this version doesn’t sound as full which this song needs
yeah I had trouble discerning most of the instruments. I didn't hear the tambourine guy at all
Yessssss
The vocals just sounded off to me, like they didn't match the video but it wasn't a sync issue.
Vocals were also off for me, emotionally off. Might of just been the 50s style they were going for but it feel very bland.
The vocalist has got some lovely Lloyd Price tonality going on. Very good!
I Absolutely LOVED IT!!
If they were to do it on every video then yeah it would get boring.
But as a promo? Its frickin genius.
Well done PMJ. I love you guys.
Really, it is not that great, it is ok.
RIght there with you, Natalie.
1:38 to skip to the song
Thank you. That was painful.
Why in the fuck
Thank you
Why would anyone do that? The entire video is epochal!
@@Nostaljack people dont care about that shiet
Hahaha as a musician and hobbyist producer that intro cracked me up so bad. And God this song rocks. You guys continue to amaze me. I love it
We caught PMJ last night in Chattanooga, TN. It was the most thrilling show I've ever seen!
I appreciated the risk taking and trying to move things forward, but I'm sad to say this didn't float my boat .
@Curiosity This. I couldn't have said it better. They can't all hit the bulls-eye with everyone...this was a miss for me.

I was just wandering through TH-cam and found this band. My jaw dropped and the next day started my collection their tunes. Thank God for this band
Tambourine Guy, I love you. Come upfront
Each and every one ingenious, from start to end: simply ingenious… Wal is wowy
2:30 YOOOOO, Tambourine Man!
Goosebumps 😍 I love those songs recorded in vintage style!

Sorry I don't, but he is great and full of energy!!
I could watch those ladies dance all day long. And I dug the song as well. Tho I may have been influenced by the dancing... :)
I don't get all the hating. I´m loving it.
Sure, it´s over the top. But definitly on purpose.
Keep going PMJ!
I've yet to find a hateful comment. Contructively negative? Yes. Hateful? No.
OMFG!!! I love all the Scott's work! Every piece is really awesome! Every piece is a new surprise!
Simply... I love Postmodern Jukebox
I know some people have a problem with the production of this video, but overall, I really enjoy it. I’ve watched it multiple times.
It makes me happy.
Fun to the max on a classic from my childhood. Loved it. Thank you
Tamborine guy is having the time of his life
Just like to say I love this cover holmes... I love the fact it plays like a 70s musical. I love the vocals. I love the acting and the characters.. Lead singer rocks.. looks like animal from the muppets.. Legit.. Love it! 👍👍🏽🤪
😝
There's a lot of good music out there, but this goes back to the basics: brass, beat & strings. Fantastic!
Like drum, keyboard and bass?
@@yihos5199 :-) Yeah... but maybe brass, drums, and guitar/bass. I love that combination.
Starts at 1:38
I adore the cover, and appreciate the step up in production quality, but honestly I think the 'sketch' at the start was kinda unnecessary and wasn't very amusing
Yeah it was REALLY painfully pretentious and reeked of "muh real music is dead because new stuff isn't the way *I* like it and *my* music taste is the only good one so they must be talentless hacks"

Dont care. Once i saw Happy Tamburine Guy in the video i have to like this!
Over-enthusiast tambourine guy FTW.

You are absolutely great, this is so awesome and surprising. Thanks a lot. Folks. Greats from Germany
I think people in comment section are missing the point of this video. Getting to live music, learning how to play an instrument and mastering the ski!l. There was a time when some one in the neighborhood gave
piano, drum, guitar, voice lessons. Now everything is digital and auto tuned, there isn't passion to learn how to read and play music as much. I'm not saying digital beat making isn't a skill or an art form ,but it's nothing like the real thing. This video is sending that message. This is a great promo video for the jukebox.😍
