Amazing tutorial. I'm doing the unthinkable and recovering some old Dell Chromebooks 11 and installing Chrome OS Flex, just for fun. We'll see how it goes
How did it go? I have the Dell Chromebook 11 CB13C1 and it's not going well. I've been rather stuck for 3-4 days. I think I need to reset it back to ChromeOS first, but not sure how since my original bios rom flash failed to backup.
@@KyleRebstock Was in the same situation, I had used the firmware file backup I made on a usb drive and it failed to backup, I decided to use the chromebook recovery utility on the chrome web store and flash the recovery media for the chromebook model onto another usb, I used the firmware util script again and it worked for me
Worked exactly as intended, managed to get my Dell 11 chromebook 3189 working on Chrome OS Flex without any issues. Just follow the instructions exactly & its working perfect
I still have this chromebook. Are you getting sound out of it? I'm not getting any sound at all and the volume slider doesn't work. I regret doing this. 😖
You, my friend are a ducking lifesaver like one of the previous commenters I also have saved a very very very old chrome book from the scrap heap with your help thank you so much please keep up the excellent work
I'm saving up $60 for a screen replacement and a USB otherwise my Samsung Chromebook 3 hasn't been updated since 2022. My school laptop looks so cool because it's on a new version and everything changed.
I had Gallium Linux installed on my Chromebook. I had to reset it to Chrome OS before I could install Flex. Once I had it reset back to Chrome this video was perfect! Thanks for taking the time to share!
T H A N K YOU After my initial struggles to remove WP (not realising the screw I had looked at several times but ignored was in fact, the WP screw). Now my 2014 Toshiba CB30 Chromebook has been brought up to date and is no longer an awkward doorstop . Great instructions and it did exactly what it said on the tin 🤗
I followed your guide, i have the same Chromebook lenovo n42 but after chromeos flex being installed no sounds are coming either from speaker or headphones, any idea?
I did this install on an HP chromebook 11 g5 and everything works fine, except I have no audio from my speakers or headphone jack. I can use bluetooth, but it's very janky and I would like to use the built in speakers. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
cap, Thanks you! I've watched the same video from 10 different people. your video was the absolute best and showed the most information by videoing your computer from a camera, but I'm starting to think that my Chromebook 11 C1B13C doesn't support chromeos flex. I get your system is repairing itself. please wait. then it reboots and it does this in a loop over and over. very depressing. I guess linux or windows is the only bet.
I just got the Acer 314 spin 2 in 1 8gb ram 128gb storage 6000 intel processor and I'm enjoying it so far. Mine is supported until 2031. mine has touch screen and can turn into a tablet.
Any issues with sound after completing this. I have an Acer Chromebase and am afraid as i see others (not my model though) have sound issues with Flex.
Yes I have the same problem. The good news is that you should get sound through bluetooth headphones. It's not perfect but better than trying to go back to chrome OS
IK he said “no to the third” (which you should probably still push “n” on), but you should STILL keep a backup of your stock firmware. This is in case you want to revert back to ChromeOS or your Chromebook gets bricked.

Because lacros didn't exist to the majority of the public when I made this video. Also lacros only updates the chrome browser, so apps that need chrome OS (not the browser) to be on a newer version are still going to stop working, even if lacros keeps updating.

Thanks for the great tutorial this is one of the simpler ones.
Thank you Bro! So helpful, obsolete chromebooks are now working perfectly .

I love ducks 🦆
Me too, LOL. My Chromebook 11 3120 couldn’t install Chrome extensions, due to how dated it was, so the only thing I could do on it was browse the web.
Big thanks man, my Old Pixel Chromebook is alive again👏👍
I've done this on a Dell Chromebook 11 3120, and it works nicely!
This worked perfectly for me even on a really old Chromebook. Acer C720 ZHN. This thing only has 2GB of RAM and flex runs great so far.
I have the same system but mine responds with, "repairing itself..." It loops and does nothing.
Thanks, you've saved a Acer CB3-132 from the bin.
Do you have a link to the video making the USB with chrome OS flex on it please?
You are the best!!! Thanks for sharing you helped bring back a dey Chromebook ❤
Awesome video! Great instructions! Is there a way to put regular chrome back on the machine?

thank you so much your the only video i found so i could do this with my old chromebook :) you have a sub
Thank you, this worked nicely. Obviously, it's not necessary, but do you recommend putting the WP screw back in anyway?
no it will not let you boot
Thank you for this, as I planned putting the WPS back in after I finished.
Thank you so much for your information. My old Samsung Chromebook pro can install Chrome Os Flex. It works great. 감사합니다
your instructions were crystal clear. thank you so much. one last question. do i need to put the WP screw back on?
You do not! You can leave it out
Sure!

what did you do to reset it to Chrome OS first? My rom flash failed to save the first time so I don't have that bios backup anywhere. Am I stuck?

Try connecting speakers or headphones via bluetooth or hdmi cable

Thank you. And what is the way to return the system to the old one?
I have no idea how to do that, unless you had a backup of the stock firmware beforehand. However, there may be firmware versions online you could use.
Where you get chrome os flex? on your usb flash/ Thank you for answer

Technically you can do ctrl+d
Why do you want to do that? You'll lose your android system, just enable Lacros

there is no command
Do you mean the command you need to type in to install the custom firmware? Its in the description if you need it. Or do you mean its not working?
