On-U Sound System.... it was an entire sub universe of English art, unto itself. Nothing like it.
I saw Clail + Tackhead + Sherwood playing the desk, twice in Australia.
Skip McDonald and Doug Wimbish (guitar & bass) looked like they must have born with the instruments already attached. Rounded out with the drummer Keith LeBlanc, they were just brilliant.

Music is less "promoted" if its content is not "compliant" enough.
Smooth in the ear - and friction-free out of the other ... space for the next product. The term is "format radio", listener-friendly produced music, "audio concepts" coordinated with algorithms, the "shallow" text is added, even automated.

Gary said what he felt, shame more musicians were not like him instead of "formula" music that is filling the charts today, listen to the charts now and you could lift the lyrics from and song and drop them on another and you wouldn't notice any difference (if that makes sense to you)

    @hanasia2011 Lyrics part 1:
One law for the rich and another for the poor
Like a love that's worth smashing down doors
One law for the rich and another for the poor
(these things are worth fighting for)
When I look into the face of those I adore
(these things are worth fighting for)
And I hear a voice within me roar
One law for the rich and another for the poor
Like a love that's worth smashing down doors
    (no longer)

  • @chucku00
    @chucku00 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Mind if i reassemble the different parts of the lyrics, Ohno ? I think not, so here we go :
One law for the rich and another for the poor
Like a love that's worth smashing down doors
One law for the rich and another for the poor
(these things are worth fighting for)
When I look into the face of those I adore
(these things are worth fighting for)
And I hear a voice within me roar
One law for the rich and another for the poor
Like a love that's worth smashing down doors
    (no longer)
One law for the rich and another for the poor
(these things are worth fighting for)
When I look into the face of those I adore
(these things are worth fighting for)
And I hear a voice within me roar
    (are worth fighting for)
    Honesty, dignity, self respect
(are worth fighting for) (are worth fighting for)
I bet you don't talk to your neighbours no more
I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope for so much more
Call me naive but I hope, I hope, I hope
I hope, I hope, I hope for so much more
Those responsible for crimes against this world must be held accountable
No longer, no longer one law for the rich and another for the poor
    It's unacceptable
(these things are worth fighting for)
To unite for justice and equality for all
(these things are worth fighting for)
When will we see the trial of the real criminals?
(these things are worth fighting for)
When I look into the face of those I adore
(these things are worth fighting for)
And I hear a voice within me roar
(these things are worth fighting for)
    Honesty, dignity, self respect
    (are worth fighting for)
    (are worth fighting for)
    (are worth fighting for)
(these things are worth fighting for)
    (are worth fighting for)
    (are worth fighting for)
    (are worth fighting for)

his END OF THE CENTURY PARTY release of 1991 was huge on the radio in Boston. This song came out in 1993 and is as fantastic, if not more, but we never got it here stateside. The EndofCenturyParty is out of print and all but impossible, even to order on line. Here is a talent largely buried in the US - maybe due to his overt leftist sentiments?
