My best ever memory of On-U was going to some small pub in London where Keith Le Blanc was playing a solo drumming gig, no-one else - just him, and Sherwood was mixing it all up live from the mixing desk. It was a joy to watch him twiddling the knobs and all these amazing sounds came out. Unforgettable 😀
The Angel, Islington if it was the same one I went to. Was an incredible show. Can't remember the name of the pub though. I think On-U Sound artists did a few gigs there.
There was nothing like onu sound 40 years ago. I want "Blessed are those who struggle" played at my funeral - all the way through! That will freak out my relatives 😀
I wonder...if Sherwood was up and coming now, would he be slated for cultural appropriation etc. Don't want to be the old fart, maybe I'm just not in the loup anymore, but it seems that the curious and free independent spirit of 80/90s music and its instrument in breaking down the barriers has all but gone.
