  • Sound of Metal is a film that says a lot by saying a little. It's an ingenius telling of a drummer who tragically begins to lose his hearing and how he deals with that. Defintely a very interesting film and it was easily one of my favourite's of 2020.. So I thought it was worth making a video about but it desereved more than just your average "SOUND OF METAL MOVIE REVIEW" video - I wanted to take a deep dive so this is a little video essay type thing discussing the meaning behind the film and more specifically talking about the main character in Ruben himself and focusing on his character development regarding how he deals with loss. (So spoilers ahead guys, this video is for people who have seen the movie or do not mind finding out what happens by the end of Sound of Metal)

My name's Jack Fitzpatrick @LetsCrashThisParade, I'm a 20-something-year-old guy who just loves to dabble in creativity. Film is an art form, one of which that I love to give my opinion on. But really, in a less a douchey way of explaining who I am; I'm a self-made and described film critic who strives for authenticity and professional level editing... I'm also someone who focuses on critiquing on an emotional level; I like story. I like characters, so I think you'll find that while I might not give a movie a bad name based on poor lighting or it's score or more technical details like that, I'll defintely tell you what I thought about it's logic and writing;... Though, I sometimes may have opinions on those extra details as well lol... I love, live and breathe movies and I'm here to talk about them.

I loved the rehab people in the film. So when Ruben had to leave I almost cried

Loved this film and I agree it definitely would of made my top 5 favorite films of 2020 for sure! I thought the beginning of the film was terrifying just putting yourself in the position of not knowing what was going on and how the thing that he was so passionate about he couldn't pursue anymore. Great performances all around and great video man, always love your video essays

That's the part I really resonated with: having is passion taken away from him. That hits harder than anything for me. Just so unfortunate.. But it may have turned out to almost be a good thing by the end of the film which is really beautiful in a way. And thankyou I always want to do more videos like this but they don't always perform the best since youd have to have seen the film prior (I think that's part of why anyway) But I'm definitely proud of this one and wanna do more like it. Glad there's people like yourself who appreciate 'em

I made this 2 years ago, I don't remember what you're even talking about sorry 😂

Oh sorry so I just looked back and I see it was at the start of the video lol - Patterson was the first example, the one with Adam Driver in it. Pretty similar to Inside Llewyn Davis as it's about a bus driver who writes poetry. I actually have a video about that movie too
