I was worried upon seeing the title, but I do agree. It's been a fantastic year for *games*, but for *gaming* it has been a turbulent year. I'm hoping 2024 may bring some ease and resolve to many issues the industry is facing.
Thanks for checking out the video anyway. Yeah I hope so, too - the gaming industry is doing well financially, but the overall condition with the layoffs and stuff is alarming.
My personal theory: - Streaming services (Twitch/TH-cam) are free advertising, but also can deter people from buying/playing a game themselves. If people see a game is pandering, unfinished, etc, they'll be even more less likely to buy it and play it. Let someone else (a streamer) buy it and play it for you without you ever having to touch your bank account. - Money and creativity can be like oil and water in this day and age. While a game may be creative, it may not make money. Nostalgia is like a drug people snort and it is an instant dopamine hit. That makes easy money. One is lucky to make enough back after developing something new and creative. - While the video mentions making art, devs also try and compete with the art of making movies. Movie budgets on video games mixed with the top two examples I mentioned are more likely to leave a dev studio with less money than they put into any given work.
Thanks dude. It's crazy. I really hope that people who are responsible for this mess will lose their power soon! If creativity was the main focus again gaming would be a whole other thing - a better one I believe.
Great video, I started playing more indies around 2019/2020 and have really enjoyed the experience when compared to AAA games recently. I'd say that indie devs are keeping the art form intact. Thank you for this perspective, I look forward to your videos in the future! 🙂
It's kinda wrong to say that 2023 is the worst year for GAMING, it's the worst year for PvP games FOR SURE, but honestly I kinda left the pvp scene because it's filled with toxicity or just 100€ games *caughs in COD* not worth it. Cheaters and Sweaters ruining normal queues are no exception. So, instead of wasting time there I just rather go on PvE games and just chill out with some titles I heavily enjoy (For example: Borderlands - 7 Days to die - Minecraft - random rogues likes on the internet).
I see your point, however where i thinj many disagree is the fact that you are saying this is the wors year, simply because plenty of games came out which are lif changing for the industry even jf a lot of talent is displaced in many cases itll just relocare to a different peoject.
I disagree that this can be remotely considered a good year for gaming at all. "Oh how could you say that, didn´t you see the scores?" all bought and paid for... there´s little art and experimentation anymore. Even Indie devs used to be quite a bit bolder, pushing as far as they could go with the limitations given. nowadays, no one is passionate enough to dare to tackle projects in C much less assembly...therefore being easy preys for unity... oh well 🤷
@@thomasffrench3639 well...so what? The critics have an opinion, but if they overlook that the game is guiding them by the nose to increase playtime doing chores, can´t i call them biased? Even Witcher 3 feels samey after a while, don´t tell me you don´t notice it.
maybe I am really alone in this, but I really think 2023 was a bad year for gaming, not just behind the scenes, but in games themselfs. idk, so many games people praise to the heavens that came out htis yyear are just so....mediocre? stuff like tears of the kingdom which is basicaly just breath of the wild: nut's and bolts, the completly overhyped hogwards legacy, or some indie games that came and went within a week and nobody cares for anymore. I really feel like there are like 2 or 3 good games this year, but alot of complete bullshit like the gollum game, rise of kong, redfall, forspoken or right now the day before. so much shit has been released
Well I don't think we can ignore what happens in the industry. Yes the Games this year are amazing, like I said in the video, but if the industry doesn't change in the future we won't get good games in the future anymore. Besides that's not clickbait my friend. Clickbait is when the hook of a title & thumbnail combination promises something the video won't provide. That's not what I did. 😎
Not all games are bad in 2023, just look at Final Fantasy 16, Hogwarts Legacy, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1. Those are at least fun to play.
This isn't clickbait. Clickbait is when the hook of the video doesn't lead somewhere. It's clickbait when I would tease something that I don't provide an answer to.
What are your favorite games of 2023?
Definitely Sea of Stars and Blasphemous 2 for me
@@manuelpalacios4413 totally! I loved both of them.
@@feiitogaming Baldur's Gate 3 was great and having a blast with Tears of the Kingdom!
As someone who just started a TH-cam channel, I love when the algorithm recommends small channels with awesome content. Keep it up +sub
Awesome! I'm happy you like my content. I'll check out your channel, too. 😎

Yep, I agree with all you said!
A creative game can make money, but the problem is that it has to have low production costs to make money
Fantastic video Luca, it's unreal what's been happening with the games industry!!!
Thanks dude.

Very interesting take on this year's game line-up. High quality as always, and I'm glad this video is doing well for you man!
Thanks for these kind words mate. 😊

Well, shadow gambit was reviewed rly well, just didnt sell good enought to make it worth all the stress
I'd say Lies of P was the one game that blew my weener off, it was so good.
happy you enjoyed it. I hope your weener is alright. 😂
We got very high highs and a lot of low lows.
Great video and I agree developers need to get back to creating not just producing. That's another pod topic I guess?
Haha everything can be a Podcast topic if we want. 😎

What's the game at 5:33?
That's Eiyuden Chronicles 100 Heroes. It's coming out on 23th April If I remember correctly.

Luckily Unity’s crazy idea was cancelled
Haha they pretty much announced that at the exact same time I uploaded my video.
It's a good thing they cancelled that stupid plan.
Yeah it’s been amazing games this year. Best year in gaming, fuck the clickbait ass title.
