      I tried to pair a remote for a gas fireplace, but harmony said it dosen't use the same frequency (315mhz) I'm considering getting some sort of bridge for the 300-400mhz spectrum.. It would be awesome to link it to automatons for turning the tv on where the lights go out. You could have a temperature sensor in the room trigger the gas fireplace on as well if its below a certain threshold. Although i'm going a bit beyond using harmony alone I suspect.

      Smart Home Solver hello, great videos. How do you get your TV to turn on while on standby mode? I currently have a smart plug but it just turns it on to stand by mode. Please help thanks.

    So glad I came across this video, I have had my harmony hub disconnected for about a year now because it was not staying connected to wifi, so after watching your video, I got it out and it did a long software update, I also recently got 2 echo dots and one spot, so with all this new stuff, it is now working, thank you so much for making this video

    Great video! I've been using the hub with Alexa for a little over a year now, and it has been awesome. It definitely takes some time to set everything up on the front end, but after that it works great. My favorite thing is to have Alexa mute the tv or pause Netflix when I'm eating wings

    Just bought one and until now it works great. Simple LGe TV, Denon Receiver, Tele2 TV box. We use our Mi A2 Lite mobile phones. App on 3 family phones so the one who is at home can use it. Unfortunately it does not work with my LSC Wi-Fi lights or my Nefit easy thermostat. Maybe I will get a Google home speaker to test. Great video you made, thanks.
    Question:
    Netflix is on my TV as a smart option. But how to install a Netflix button? When An app is installed extra on the TV or removed the wrong app starts....

    My biggest problem with my Harmony hub is, getting "out of sync" with other things controlling devices. If Harmony turns on a light, and Smartthings via Alexa turns it off, Harmony still thinks its on.
    Also, any time a device or activity is added to any system, all attached systems need to be re set up, the "resync" doesn't seem to work at all.

    My biggest gripe about the Harmony Hub with both Alexa and Google Assistant is the lack of multi Harmony Hub per account. I have 3 Hubs (with Alexa) in my home, 2 others (with Google) in my condo and can only set up one Hub with each platform. As far as my research took me it looks like it's Harmony's support is only one Hub per account. Want to set up my other rooms!

  • @clellbritt3434
    @clellbritt3434 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got my Harmony Hub with the companion remote last Christmas and overall I love it. With the companion remote you have 3 main buttons that you can program to turn on sets of devices, but those buttons can be set for use as short press and long press. That make 6 routines that you can set. Then there are 4 light/plug buttons to control lights also with short press and long press feature. The lights can also be dimmed up and down from the remote too. ALL this without my phone even being used.
    I do have one issue with my TV. For some reason when I turn off the system (TV, Sound Bar, FireTV) a minute or two later the TV will come back on. Not sure whats going on. I'll turn it off manually and it might come back on again, not always.

    when we do have a movie night, would you suggest getting the harmony hub to be able turn on a ps4, log in as a specific user, go to the play store, buy the movie you want and turn on a media center?

    • @sulylunat
      @sulylunat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taran Agnew nope. Your first hurdle would be turning on the ps4. Sony only allows you to turn on the PS4 remotely with a controller, so you'd have to do that manually. The next hurdle would be getting it to find a movie you want. You can't program a step into the scene to prompt you to enter information and you wouldn't be able to voice prompt. The other steps are possible, however the whole activity as a whole would be really long winded. You would have several wait times before every step as you'd have to make sure that each step has enough time to complete before moving onto the next, and all in all your be wasting so much time just sat there watching the screen for a few minutes whilst the hub executes everything. From my useage, the hub is good at just doing standard TV controls. IE going to s specific TV channel (you would need to set it up in favourites) or going to a specific source, changing the volume, etc. I actually have a dedicated Netflix button on my standard remote for my TV, so I was able to set up a scene to watch Netflix that would turn on the TV and press the Netflix button to launch straight into the application.

    • @SmartHomeSolver

      @Barkingspider 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smart Home Solver are you sure? That would be awesome.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I wondered the same thing but I got a new router and it worked great. The only things to watch out for is to make sure the new router also has the 2.4Ghz turned on and it's not just 5Ghz. It's fine to have both but some smart home devices only work on the 2.4Ghz spectrum. Also turn off your old router and if your smart device doesn't connect right away just turn the smart device off and on and it should connect to the new router without needing to do anything.

    So I’ve been looking at smart things because i want to integrate some in my dorm. I was wondering what you thought would be the best. I want stuff relatively cheap because I’m in college lol but still functional. I’m mostly looking for something i can use maybe to turn on my desk top computer, a tv or game console, and maybe some led strips or lamps around my dorm with voice control or Ive seen some smart buttons that you don’t actually have to wire into an outlet because obviously i can’t do that in a dorm. If anyone has any suggestions on what i should get to start this project or some tips i should know I’m very new to this whole smart home thing and would love some help.

    I just noticed you also have a Sony TV. When I pair it as a TV at google home (in order home mini to cast music and videos directly) problems start, with what I think as overlapping commands. I also think that in your case when google assistant is increasing the volume of the TV is not through the hub! In my case: "increase the TV volume" and "Increase the volume on TV" have different outcome. Only the second one is via the Hub and controls my soundbar. The first one is via android TV and increases the TV volume. I have complained about all these glitches but no one has clear answers! Furthermore support between Google Home, Sony TV and Netflix is still like a joke. I would never imagine such a policy from google abandoning its own android TV

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi +Nik Fam thanks for the comment. I ran into an issue similar to what you described before when I was trying to cast my Arlo feed to my TV using chromecast. I made a video about it but in short, I never gave my TV a name in the Google Home app and when I would say "show Arlo on TV" it would play TH-cam videos. Now my TV is named "Family Room TV" in the Google Home app and I have to say turn up the volume on Family Room TV for Google Assistant to change the volume without the Harmony Hub. In the video, it is using the Harmony Hub to change the volume. If you haven't changed your TV name in the Google Home app, I would give that a try and see if it helps.

    Whats the point of light strips on the back of your tv? That just seems awfully distracting. When my tv turns on, all the nearby lights dim down and turn off.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Light strips behind the TV aren't for everyone because I could see how it could be distracting. It helps when watching TV at night so when the screen goes dark and then bright your eyes don't have to adjust. It puts less strain on your eyes and once you start watching the light just fades into the background.

      My wife's name is very close to "Siri" and my iPhone goes off every time I say "Hey, S***i" Very frustrating. Luckily I don't know any named Google so the Google Home is fine but it did go off because of this video.

    do i need a smart tv? or would any TV work

    • @clellbritt3434
      @clellbritt3434 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any TV will work that has a remote. Just about anything that has a remote. It uses an IR blaster just like the original remote, but it can also connect via BluTooth or RF or WiFi (I think).

  • @119Agent
    @119Agent 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    For Google Home to work correctly you need to name your TV something other than "TV". For example "OK Google, turn on ABC on Living Room TV".

  • @lukaslangenberg1221

    Does it go to any tv

    • @119Agent
      @119Agent 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will replace the REMOTE for any TV. In order to use Netflix or any other streaming app like TH-cam or HBOgo you need either a smart TV or a streaming device hooked up to your smart tv and then program the harmony hub to work with the tv and the streaming device.

  • @ZirusAlpha
    @ZirusAlpha 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    what sucks though is that having multiple harmony hubs can only control one tv to is full potential with alexa, you need secondary apps to control another tv and even then u can only turn it on..not switch chnls or other neat stuff =/ [unless someone knows a way to do with harmony /alexa only]

    I could never connect mine to Alexa through the skills. It kept on saying I didn't have any hubs set up when I did. This thing is worthless.
