You just talked me into buying a Logitech Harmony Ultimate Remote and Hub. They are currently on sale @ Best Buy. I purchased 2 Echo Dots for my home this weekend and want my television to be fully automated like yours. Thank you for always being kind enough to do these tech reviews in a pleasant speaking voice. Also, for being very easy on the eyes. ;-)
I found this amusing. I am also setting up a Harmony hub. While you were setting yours up and you tested it, my TV responded and did everything you said while I just watched.
I cancelled my order for the Harmony Hub and got the Logitech Harmony Smart Remote Control with hub at Walmart for $58 instead ($22 cheaper than just the hub alone). Really glad I did because I actually really like the little remote. It works sooooo much better than the large universal remote I was using. Voice control with our Echos is perfect for our needs. I also ordered a Kiwi battery base. Watching your videos is getting expensive, lol.
Thank you so much! Just got Alexa to turn off and on my TV. Your video was great! I've had much difficulty attempting to do this myself before discovering your video, but I was unable to do so. The video was very thorough. 5/5.
caroline you convince me to get one becouse i was so frustated with my phone and echo just trying with the anymote app that i just surender until i saw your video thank you for the work and helping others to get things done baby keep it up
Great video, thanks very much. A couple of questions: If your TV is set to watch over-the-air channels, can you say, "Alexa, change channel to two dash one" if you want channel 2-1? Second question: can you set up scheduling of channels? My mother-in-law has some favorite shows that she watches on weekdays, so it would be nice if I could set a schedule like channel 2-1 at 9AM, channel 4-1 at 2PM, channel 9-1 at 6:30PM, etc., so her channels change automatically and she doesn't have to remember what stations to turn to.
Yeah you can (to both questions u asked). It doenst matter if you get the channels from a cable box or over-the-air channels, if u can get to set your tv remote to the hub then thats all. i get channels from a cable box and the volume from the tv, so if i say "alexa, volume up" alexa knows its the volumen from the tv and if i say change channel alexa knows its the channels from the cable box.
I'm trying set mine up right now and mines is not going that smoothly and how do you get it to turn on TV and go to Netflix and able to go to your profile on the Netflix app because I share mine with my family , I'm getting frustrated because it's getting Complicated
Do you have to connect the tv to the hub? Or can it be like a stand alone? My tv is wall mounted so I dont really want the hub to be sticking out or anything. Thanks!
Great video, thanks. I was actually wondering about this and was looking for one to do a review on. I have been setting up different rooms with Smart Light Switches and love the Alexa and Google home voice commands.
Hi Caroline! I'm a long time follower of your channel and you always do a wonderful job illustrating (especially with Alexa). I was wondering what emulator you used for this on screen video recording in 2017. There many emulators and I've had some issues with some keeping the device in sync with the on screen emulator. In your video things always stay in sync (either wireless or wired) and I'd like to know if it's real or if it's the work of video editing. In Camtasia, I want to talk and capture what is being shown in real-time on my pc but I don't want the emulator laggy with virtualization enabled and 16gb ram.
Great video. Just ordered the Harmony hub without the remote. Does the hub have an ir emitter or do you have to use the ir blaster? How do you like that battery base for your dot? Does it interfere with the speaker audio at all? I've been using mine with usb power banks but that battery base looks like a nicer option.
The battery base for my Dot is awesome. I use it all of the time. It does not interfere with the speaker, IMO. I received the battery base as a gift here - th-cam.com/video/dcYEAMHpe4I/w-d-xo.html I setup the IR blaster on my Harmony Ultimate.
Although I have never tested it, according to what I have read, the Harmony Hub is also an IR blaster. That being said, there is no good reason not to use the mini ir blaster(s) as well as the hub. The hub has connections for two mini blasters. I use them both.
Do you know if this will work in the UK with a Samsung tv and sky services by the way you are Greet I love your videos you have helped me a lot. Thank you. Till next time from the UK.
Ok, had a few issues with my set up, despite being on the phone twice to Amazon help people my issue remained unresolved....until I discovered that the Harmony Hub downloads it's TV channels into "Scenes"....So if you link the hub to the Alexa more than once, it re-downloads those channels and you end up with duplicates. Also I had to change the name of the hub from TV as Alexa was telling me it had two TV set ups.
You make this look so easy but when I did all the things you did it worked great. Turned the TV off and turned it back on later to "hmmmm, can't reach Harmony." REPLY
Hi well explained keep it up. One question do not take it personal. I see always wearing black dress? But it suit you and you look gorgeous and always smile while explaining. God Bless you
Hi Caroline, Great video and very useful information. I recommend a better microphone for parts of the video. Your very well spoken with a clear and calming voice, the mic you are using now does not to your voice justice :-)
Thanks for watching. Yes, you are right, I don't have a good microphone for my computer when I am recording my screen. If someone could PLEASE get me a new microphone, I'd really appreciate it. I have 2 reasonably priced mics on my wishlist. a.co/csjQJYb
Really strange, while listening to this video my Samsung turned off when she instructed my echo dot to do so. For the only time ever, my Samsung responded and can on when she instructed it to .... this without the hub. I'm awaiting its arrival. Tried to recreate and failed.
Great video. I wish I would have seen this sooner. I have a similar setup but have you found a way to do a voice search on our Roku through Alexa? I am scouring the web for that functionality.
It pisses me off that I have the Harmony remote but need the hub to work with Alexa. You would think Alexa could just turn the TV on if it’s on the same network
Doesn't have it built in but when you get Dish now it does come with an Echo Dot and have the software integrated into the Hopper. From what I have heard from friends you don't have the problems with it that come up with harmony. I have DirecTv but am changing soon to get this feature.

I love how excited you get when stuff works. Very sincere personality.
Thank you so much! Just got Alexa to turn off and on my TV.

The video was very thorough. 5/5.
Probably one of the easiest tutorials I’ve watched...Cheers 😊
You seem like such an awesome person. You are always nice and smiling in your videos. Keep up the good work and thank you for all the tips!

Your step by step process helped me setup my TV, DirecTV receiver and Echo dot perfectly.
One of the better videos for the basics.
I have a Harmony Hub, I need to hook it up. Thanks for the video. Do u use ur remote on ur Harmony ? I am not sure if I need one. What do u think ?
What a great how to Caroline, thanks for doing it
Do you need the remote? Or can just the hub work if your using Alexa only to control things?? Thanks great video
Hi Caroline. You're doing great with pairing these devices.
I'm trying set mine up right now and mines is not going that smoothly and how do you get it to turn on TV and go to Netflix and able to go to your profile on the Netflix app because I share mine with my family , I'm getting frustrated because it's getting Complicated

Very thorough tutorial. Nice job

Also Caroline I was wondering....if you have dish TV why aren't you using their software that already does all this for you???
Excellent job Caroline. Thank you!

Do i need the remote or is it possible only with the hub?

Yes the hub does has an IR blaster built in. Mine came with 1 mini IR blaster, which I have to use in order to control everything in my setup.

Hello there. Great video and great commentary. Are you from Georgia?
Does it has to be a smart tv

Can you set up recordings with Alexa as well?
What's the difference between the tp link smart plug and the harmony hub?
with a smart plug u can just turn on/off, with the hub u go beyond that, change channels, volumen, inputs, etc.

PapaGeorge
what if you have more than one harmony TV systems in the house?
awesome video ty
can this change the input too? i mean can i say: "alexa, change input to hdmi 3"?
Another great video! Thanks!
Are these things necessary
Really strange, while listening to this video my Samsung turned off when she instructed my echo dot to do so. For the only time ever, my Samsung responded and can on when she instructed it to .... this without the hub. I'm awaiting its arrival. Tried to recreate and failed.
I like it
Actually you do not have to have the remote. You can do it with just the harmony hub.
So I need a laptop to get this done?
Nope, u can do it from the cell phone app too
Great video. I wish I would have seen this sooner. I have a similar setup but have you found a way to do a voice search on our Roku through Alexa? I am scouring the web for that functionality.
Great video. We all hate Samsung does not include Smart TV in Smartthings Skill...
How could you change the channel on Joey right before he was gonna drop a “how youu doinnnn”
When you go to discover devices is it Hub or TV?
A woman who can actually operate remote controls. Impressive !
It pisses me off that I have the Harmony remote but need the hub to work with Alexa. You would think Alexa could just turn the TV on if it’s on the same network
too many settings ... hope it works well
Great!
Love ya!
I have echo plus do I still need a harmony remote?

Dish network have alexa built-in now.
