Suit up for classic comedy! Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take a chance on going freelance, de-haunting houses in a new ghost removal service. As soon as they open their doors, their first order of business becomes saving beautiful cellist Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) and nerdy Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), who’ve inadvertently opened the gates of hell… right in their own apartment building!
Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), (Egon Spengler) Harold Ramis, and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) take up their proton packs once more to battle the forces of evil in Manhattan! After waging a war on slime that cost New York City millions, the Ghostbusters find themselves out of business until an ancient tyrant, preparing a return to the Earthly domain through his portrait at the Manhattan Museum of Modern Art, sets his sights on Dana Barrett's baby as the new home for his wicked soul! With the help of the Museum's possessed curator, he plans to turn New York into a really scary place to live! Secretly one of my favorite scenes. Just a quiet conversation. The music gets dark and serious with the ambience of the traffic lights hitting Ray and Winston almost evoking lightening. A perfect scene and Ernie Hudson is excellent!

I would say that about the Ecto 1A. Not about the Ecto 1. But they used two batteries not one.. on both.

Few films are as original , or as iconic as Ghostbusters . The idea of sci fi ghost hunting , ghosts being serious but played for laughs , using a fire station as a base , A herse as an icon , THE PROTON PACKS , the simple brown overalls that are still recognisable . I really think these films are great

It definitely would’ve been a pretty cool and unique concept at the time the film first came out now that I think about it! In particular you probably wouldn’t have seen much comedy about ghosts or the like outside of horror movie spoofs.

2.54 on this video... When I was a kid with vhs in the 80s(i seen batman and Gb2 in cinemas in 89) a kid in Dublin I fell in love with the shot of Ecto on the bridge. Early morning..that vista of NYC.... Wow I love it. I've been to America a few times but never to NYC.

All those times Ecto-1 pulls up to the curb my first thought is, "Try parallel parking that battleship..."
The whole set up to the beginning of Ecto-1 is epic and nostalgic.
Best moment at 2:50 - this is the essence of New York in the movie.

The idea of a cluncky 1950's Ambulance/hearse having to speed around the NY bouroghs , the weight alone would strain the suspension and shock absorbers especially with the added weight on the roof and the proton packs, also NY has tight roads in some areas I'm sure the Ghostbusters spent alot more than what Ray predicted at the start throughout their calls. That's why I love it, it's so daft and believable that Ray would buy this than the latest Van or stationwagon.
The scene of Ecto tearing out of the Firehouse was actually done with an under/over-cranked camera.

Sony Pictures did a nut and bolt restoration on it a few years ago. It looks absolutely brand spanking new now. it had sat for like 20 years in a warehouse. Theres a video on this channel I believe documenting the resto.

at the start yes they were illegally burning through new york without clearence from the authorities however not much a police officer can do as they are not imprsonating police/fire/paramedic. later in the movie when they were getting recognized by the media the NYPD didnt get involved and let them carry on. after the coming of Goza the Mayor gave them legal ability to evade traffic laws while on a call. This continued until the lawsuit that stopped them from being paranormal investigators in GB2 - Source GB wiki and various books on the lore of the GB universe
While everyone is talking about the sirens and the ghostbusters, I personally admire the car itself and what it is even without all the work done to it.
LOVE THIS MOVIE TOTAL CLASSIC.
You know when I saw Ghostbusters for the first time in 1987 - I kept thinking to myself why they put Police Light's on ECTO-1.

I agree. Of all the classics, I love 50s and 60s Cadillacs. My dream car would be a 1954 Eldorado convertible in Ferrari Red. In perfect condition, those can auction for almost $160,000!

I absolutely love this car. Both Ecto-1 and 1A. The siren is also what does it for me. I would readily (if I legally can) I'd drive with it on and off the highway lol. I'd get this car long before I'd get the Delorean Time Machine and KITT if I could.

@youngsandwich967 I think if the siren and lights are off, you can, and if you drive it rarely, then tickets should be non-existent or minimal. Just depends on the officer.

See even back in the day when GB2 was filmed they knew 2020 was going to be disastrous since the # to call them on Ecto1a is JL5-2020(which was going to be GB3 release date).
I remember when my brother and I raced home with a copy of the film from the local Blockbuster to watch it. We saw the phone number and tried it. It connected to somewhere in New York and a woman named Lauren answered the phone! My brother freaked, snatched the phone from me and hung up. It was a bizarre experience.

What I find astonishing, and a bit sad, is that Ecto-1 is the only car in this video that still exists. All the other cars you see around it are more than definitely long gone.

@@largol33t1 : Sony Pictures still owns the Ecto 1 and it sits on display outside the offices of Ghost Corps (the production company Dan Aykroyd and the late Ivan Reitman set up to continue making Ghostbusters projects). The car used as Ecto 1A in Ghostbusters II was refitted to look like Ecto 1 from the first movie and used in filming both Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
The car and the siren sound are so unique. Probably the only sound that make you recognize what movie car is.
I am well overdue for a rewatch...
