UPDATE: Trump's brand of American fascism and turning conservatives into a white supremacist cult is over. Joe Biden took him down with the power of democracy. The American people voted and acted like WWII soldiers taking down the nazis for the good of their people. We can finally have a moment to see Trump and all of his supporters face consequences to his actions and we can all celebrate like it's 1945!
I'm surprised you haven't uploaded a video of you doing a victory dance yet.
thank you for making me remember a time when everyone agreed that Nazis were bad
I couldn't agree more Animat. These past four years have been nothing but hell in the U.S.
You should go thru the comments on this vid and ban all the Nazis who are outing themselves
Dont say Biden voters defeated the Nazis. No one from this generation has ever fought a Nazi, and to claim otherwise is stolen valor to those who actually did in WW2.
Just to clarify something quick: If you're someone who's not interested in the subject of politics or you'd rather want to avoid talking about politics, that's perfectly okay. You have your reasons and they are understandable. What I am against, however, is when people act they they are superior by not talking about the subject and try to force others to be silent about it by telling them "Stop talking about politics". That's when it doesn't become okay and those are the kind of people that should be looked down upon. No one has the right to tell other what they cannot talk about if it's something they don't like to hear about. Again, it's okay if you don't wanna talk about politics, just don't tell others to do the same.
Hear! Hear!
On the contrary, I think you should do more opinion pieces on different subjects. Don't censor your mind and if you feel like saying something, go ahead! Plus, I think politics are unavoidable at this point. From Zootopia to X-Men, they are loaded with political themes
Okay. Thanks.
I used to believe in politics in a brief period of time, but then COVID-19 hit and I wasn't invested anymore because I didn't want to hear people talk about the same thing over and over.
To all of you who say "Just vote to Third-Party!": Just know that somone bad will be elected and it will be because of you.
I searched American Krogan and this video came up
Same and I found the most freakishly delusional comment section I've ever seen.
And in Bioshock 2, Sofia Lamb thought that she could built a real life Utopian place, based on the comum good. The literial anthises of Rand's line of thought, show equelity as hamful. Seriouslly, Bioshock 2 is better then people given credit to it.

Never expected AniMat to make a vid about Bioschock Infinite, but hey, I’m definitely not complaining! Especially since it’s one of my favorite games to come from the PS3/Xbox 360 generation.
Never thought to ever see you talk about Bioshock.
Would you kindly change your mind? (See what I did there?)
But it sure was worth it.
never thought to see him talk about video games (aside from epic mickey)
Yeah for me, this is a first. He should talk of video games more often.
EDIT: Turns out he did a review on The Walking Dead Season 1 TellTale Series.
@@itsblitz4437 Personally, i'd like to see him review the game Toonstruck!
7:35 The same can actually be said about art and media, and those fanboys who become so attached to their favorite franchise that they become so convinced that their opinions are fact, and that their favorite franchise is THE best one out there.
And of course, I won't hesitate to say that Americans, for all their pride in being American, could really learn a thing or two from outside perspectives and influences. And I will more than readily admit that there have been MANY times in my life where I've been ashamed to be American, and this year gave me no shortage of reasons for that either.
Well said.
I wonder how much this will divide AniMat’s audience
Well... he doesn't like trump we know that.
Truthfully, this video will only upset those who are so wrapped up in the ideals that he lists in this video. Non-cultists won’t be offended.
For right now, the dislikes are slowly catching up to the likes.
@@KSCGGuy14 democrats are the real cult
Given how some of the most recent comments call it "the cringiest shit", or say he "doesn't understand fascism or objectivism", it's clear where the disagreement lies.
Didn’t ever think I’d see a man in a neon orange fedora spit so many facts
14:58 Ken Levine, the creator of the game himself, said in an interview in 2008, the first Bioshock was NOT an attack on Rand's philosophy:
"I'm fascinated by Objectivism. I think I gave it--I think the problem with any philosophy is that it's up to people to carry it out. It could have been Objectivism, it could have been anything. It's about what happens when ideals meet reality. If you had to sum up BioShock's story, that's what it is.
When philosophers write books, when they write fictional works like Atlas Shrugged, they put paragons in the books to carry out their ideals. I always wanted to tell a story of, what if a guy wasn't a paragon? What if his intentions were really good, but at the end of the day he was human? I think that's where the problem is.
It's not an attack on Objectivism, it's a fair look at humanity. We screw things up. We're very, very fallible. You have this beautiful, beautiful city, and then what happens when reality meets the ideals? The visual look of the city is the ideals, and the water coming in is reality. It could have been Objectivism, it could have been anything."
intent and interpretation can be pretty intriguing.
It might not have been an attack, but it definitely made the ideology a destructive and decaying feature in that game.
Why is this shit popping up wile I look up for American krogen's videos on bioshock 😒?
4:25 To quote Diva from Musical Hell, in her "Musicals 101" on 'Cabaret':
"We still have a choice. We can still step up and recognize that what we do can make a difference. What we CAN'T do is hide inside the KitKat Club and wait for it all to blow over, because by the time the fight comes to your doorstep, it's already too late."
It was that very video that made me subscribe to her and made me have a deeper appreciation of Cabaret. It’s nice that there are other that appreciate it as well and the words of that quote are so true. 👍🏾
Very good video, well done!

Columbia reminds me of Main Street USA so much so that I want Main Street USA to play the music from Bioshock Infinite
As a student of history, I think that a society functions best when there is a common understanding about how patriotism (which emphasizes achievement in spite of a nation's flaws) and nationalism (which refuses to acknowledges a nation's flaws and pretends that a nation is infallible) are different things, and the former is more desirable, while the latter tends to lead to destruction!
Both definitions are wrong... If you are studying pay attention, liberals tend to create their own little realities inside their heads. I'm going to tell you something your teachers wont: Your idea its wrong, your definition its stupid and arbitrary and you just think this because it makes you feal better about yourself.

Ooooh the ignorance in this

BioShock Infinite's theme of American Nationalism Gone Wrong aged like milk huh
you know Bioshock Infinite has mastered satire when even the audience it's clearly calling out treats the obvious bad guys as a martyr
(case in point, conservatives using the god and country mural)
I've played Bioshock Infinite!
Not as far deep but it's still amazing!
I got the original game too!
Such a deep series to explore!
Hey BioShock fans out there, you guys should make a fan-made BioShock CGI-animated prequel series call: BioShock: The Before Times that takes place decades before the events of the first BioShock game. The quality of BioShock: The Before Times also needs to be SO incredible to look at than your usual low-budgeted fan-made projects these days, it'll genuinely make you believe that you're actually watching a official BioShock CGI-animated prequel series.
Well after all these executive orders that "fascism" stuff you were spouting looks pretty strange huh?
Ooohhh, This is good! It makes me want to finish Infinite!
Question Animat, Are you planning on doing more of these types of video game videos in the future?
If you beleive Trump is Fascist, you don't understand what Trump or Fascism stands for.

To this guy not needing a vaccine passport to leave your house is fascism
People shouldn't worship trump like a god. None of us should treat people of power like that because the point of the video because it leads down a slippery slope and its easier to corrupt others. When people take there beliefs too far it becomes an issue

When I replay Infinite at some point, I will keep your video in mind
Kinda upsetting that politic is only thing similar thing with bioshock and not the sky city, the giant robot man or the bottle that can give you superpowers , what sense does that make it
The whole reason patriotism exists is because people need something to stand with. Blood, Country, ,History. There wouldn't be any point in living if there wasn't something to get behind. If you're not surviving and fighting to pass on your genes or help your own kind pass there's on, what's the point in anything? Consumerism? Depressing.
If you need the state to force a identity on you because you can’t find one yourself, then that’s a you problem.
Read the pin. Didn't bother watching the video. Buzzwords and boogeyman, just laughably delusional.
Bioshock Infinite: the American Evangelicalism simulator
I loved Bioshock 2. It's my favourite. Infinite's DLC ruins infinite and retroactively pisses on bioshock 1.
Bioshock infinite dlc was just the Ken leaving bioshock and making sure they can't make spinoffs about Elizabeth or both city's
Then don't buy the DLC... It's a pretty simple solution to your non-issue :P
I’ve actually never played Bioshock myself, but I do think that the subject matter you discuss is very interesting and informative, especially when you delve deeper into the psychology and reasoning behind extremists. Thank you for making this video, I think it was a fantastic move on your end.
All I can say now is that I better starting checking out Bioshock for myself.
You would be pretty extreme too if people were allowed in your house, telling your children that you are racist. Then walks out with your belongings while your child is screaming at you for being a racist bc you didnt want the stranger in your home.
The irony is that the white ethnostate of Columbia has more in common than the nation of Israel than the United States.
I really enjoyed and appreciate you making this video. It’s so on point and timely, I immediately shared your video with my daughter who has been a big fan of this game from the beginning and when she described it to me a few years ago, it sounded like so much more like a grand epic worthy of a cable series and the storylines pulled me in.☮️
I have to agree with you on this, Animat, but also point out that several large groups of Liberals have also gone down this rabbit hole. The difference being that they replace their deadly pride, or hubris, for their country with hubris for their BELIEFS, and no, not just religious beliefs. These include gender rights, racism, and xenophobia, where THEY push their platforms and beliefs to the point where they believe that, depsite logic and evidence to the contrary, their ideas are the ONLY rhetoric we're allowed to follow. While many people cover these extremists under the umbrella of so called "wokeism", they are very diverse. So this problem exists on both sides of the politcal spectrum. If we could just find a common ground between them, our world would be so much better off
Why should I listen to man telling people there is no choice after he just told us a man chooses, a slave obeys
The real question who is really the slave for is it not a slave that is told he has no choice?
While it is frightening to look into the dangerous similarities between BioShock Infinite's Columbia and Trump's America, thankfully, there is a way to fight against the cultism in the real world and save not only the United States, but most of humanity as well. If you live in America and are at the age of 18 or more, then you must VOTE, but not just vote, you must vote for Joe Biden. The only way to restore peace in the country and to help wake most Republicans up from their delusional Jonestown-style cult mentality is to get rid of their dictator-like leader that destroying America from within like how nationalism did to Columbia in the game. Trump and McConnell's brand of conservatism is killing the US' integrity and legacy from within, and it's up to you to take these people down in the same way soldiers took far-right people like them down back in WWII.
Glad I voted and Vote for Blue. Thanks, Animat. Trump's America can't be made again.
A great video by the way.
@Georgia Neale Democratic Party.
Excuse me? Are you saying that I should vote for Joe Biden to restore peace to my country that I live in?
I'm proud of you for taking a stand.

The United States was made when people from different countries needed a place that generations would call a free country. No matter if you're Black, Mexican, Asian, or even Muslim, you deserve to be treated with respect and care from those who look after each other, not by themselves. Our bridges from the rest of the world are broken, but we, united as one, can rebuild them. We need to evolve and become stronger with these depressing times of destruction and death. We need to let go of how some of our countries' rules and regulations use to operate in the past. Cause if we don't, then we will continue to make enemies and foes. We need to remind ourselves the moments in American history that made our families and ancestors better and reliable to every single citizen. Ask yourself, who would you want to run the White House next?
Somebosy who puts America First, along with all Blacks, White and Muslims you mentioned, but they must be using our social system as *legal citizens*
American Krogan did a lot better job on this Tikkun Olam.
Bioshock Infinite is my favorite 1st person shooter game, and when it came out I just thought the Cult of Columbia was satire and social commentary.. but NOW, seeing how some politicians have indeed gone to a cult mentality, America 1st and even people online worshipping Trump as a 2nd Messiah, and gone as far as to send death threats to anyone for having different political views, oh boy does it make the game feel like it was a prediction of things to come and our current social state.
Of course even when the game 1st came out, Fox News took the logo for a segment on the "Greatness of America" and even some politicians took the in-game Columbia racist propaganda (the one with Washington as Jesus Christ with minorities painted as dirty sinners and hiding) as legit art to represent their values, not realizing it was SATIRE.
13:40 YES THAT ONE! Glad you brought it up!
Looking back at it is just terrifying how Columbia is looking at too similar to some stuff today downright to the intense racial divide and many politicians expressing their desire for a total police state to silence any protest and violence looking as the only response.
Seriously this game now more than ever deserves a revisit and something to show people that, No people aren't suddenly now being political all of a sudden, being "sjws" or hating Trump cause it's popular, no we have always try to warn against extreme political views and the total fanaticism of America and racist views even way back before nationalism became a group.
Did you know there was a stab at Herman Cain? In Finkton there is an African American worker who says 9 9 9. That was Cains tax policy during the 2012 Republican primary. "You may not care about politics, but politics certainly cares about you.", unquote.
‘’Indeed, conceit, arrogance and egotism are the essentials of patriotism. Let me illustrate: patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who have had the fortune of being born on some particular spot consider themselves nobler, better, grander, more intelligent than those living beings inhabiting any other spot. It is, therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all the others.’’ - Emma Goldman

The series has always been about cultism of utopian ideas and how our humanity corrupts good intentions. The left and right wings are both cults, each rejecting reality for their own images as to what is happening and morally correct. I always encourage reading and learning from all because the more ideas you have, the more balanced perspective you can obtain.

Also Christianity was outlawed in Columbia
Which is fair.
@@daelen.cclark ok
Bioshock is not even an attack on Ayn Rand. Ken Levine (the creator of the game) said it himself. His criticism of Rand's philosophy isn't that it's an evil ideology or anything. His criticism is that it requires perfect people to carry it out. So he created a story full of fallible characters who don't follow the philosophy through and through. Everyone in Rapture is a hypocrite, especially Andrew Ryan.

19:47 Well, when the idea of centrism (especially in this day and age) is to basically be apathetic and borderline selfish, depending on who they end up aiding regardless of how directly it may be, and only arbitrarily be for having things being balanced, despite pretty much showing how much lop-sided bullshit there is, I'm not really surprised why people arguably see centrism as a worse mentality than that of the opressor.
Because essentially, if the oppressor is like the guy that actively tries to set their house on fire, and the centrist is like the guy that sees that their house is on fire, but doesn't bother to put out the flames, it's pretty clear that despite whatever motivations or philosophies those people end up running on, in the end, the result is ultimately the same.

I think that this is a short stage in mankind's existence. Believe it or not; rapid access to internet has shaped our societies in ways unimaginable to past generations. It seems as if we're living in an age of ignorance because we've never witnessed such a phenomenon, but a world where people abandon their archaic weaknesses for more minimized versions is slowly creeping towards us.
But I will be honest, mankind will continue to suffer many mundane anomalies of his own making for as long as he is mortal. Mortality makes us fumble, it makes us desperate to live well and feel well for as long as we can, that's why Hollywood is full of happy endings.
It's nice to see Bioshock Infinite analysis again.
Very interesting review. I can tell you put a lot of time and thought into this. Well done AniMat. I saw the second and final presidential debate last night, and all I can say is, for the love of God, please get out there and vote.
I thought Trump would start WWII wish Russian and the DPRK? Oh that didn't happen, so now you switch the narrative to how theye working together. Make up your fucking minds.
Obama launched thousands of missiles at 'ISIL', accomplishes nothing. Trump gets in and they are history. But now that Bidens handlers conned his way to the Whitehouse we are hearing about more instability in the middle east.
I must say those are interesting points when it comes to Bioshock. Of how some people can be corrupted because they feel lost or felt invisible. So they boast so they will be remembered and not be forgotten.
Losing the hold of self righteousness and not seeing the world as populated by nasty or foolish people. I'm of how Ayn Rand's mind worked and it can be explained a little bit more in detail of what made her a certain path. Yet is only a nit pic
As I hear from the both sides, the best side is to fallow ones own path.
Gee bioshock infinite, it have been a super long time since I played the game
Infinite was supposed to be centered around the vox populi vs the founders after father Comstocks death. if it had stuck with that and left that "ending" out of it, I think it would have been way better. This analysis is intriguing. I'd like to bring up Three Houses for this topic. And major spoiler warnings to those who haven't played the game yet. So consider yourselves warned.
So each house leader has their own personal beliefs on how to reshape Fódlan into a better world. Their ideologies don't seem too farfetched from their own. And they have valid reasons why they think their way of thinking is the right one.
Edelgard sees the Church of Seiros as a tyrannical dictator to the people. She accused Rhea for demonizing the name of the Progenitor God and its entire religion. In Azure Moon, Verdant Wind and Silver Snow, she's portrayed as this mad tyrant who's willing to spill blood of innocent people to unify Fódlan. Or that's what I at least know. She sees crests as a parasite and nobles as disgusting humans. Given their status and the way they look down on others, she tries to abolish those sides as a way to unify the country from their control.
Dimitri is a bit more complex to understand. He wants to rule Faerghus as a wise and just king, but his trauma keeps standing in his way. He's a strong and honest warrior, but he may be a bit easy to manipulate. His father had ties to the kingdom of Duscur and both shared a good partnership for a while. Until one day, every innocent civilian was brutally slaughtered by the empire. His step sibling, closest friend and mortal enemy Edelgard claimed that she had nothing to do with the massacre. Because of that, the people of Duscur despise the Kingdom, except for one man. Dedue. He's the remaining survivor of the incident and loyal vassal to Dimitri. He was viewed as a different man than the others, but Dimitri only wanted to call Dedue as a friend. So that's what they became.
Anyway, Cornelia served the holy kingdom for 21 years now. And after carrying out Dimitri's sentence, he's named a walking corpse. His mind only craved for Edelgard's blood, and nothing else. But he came to understand her reasons as to why she started Fódlan's war. So he vowed to reach out for her hand, and hoping to have Edlegard reach out for his.
I think both sides are bad and thank god I'm a centrist
So what you are saying is that we all move to Canada.
Go watch John Doyle

One thing I will give Bioshock Infinite credit for is how it showed that even when "minorities" are given equal rights and the keys to the kingdom, they make the world uninhabitable for themselves and everyone around them.
