Some people think, "vinho verde" gets this name because the grapes are harvested unripe, it is not, the grapes are harvested in mid september to ends of octuber just like any other brand of grapes. The word verde in portuguese means the color green but also every fruit or vegetable that is not ripe yet. "As laranjas ESTÃO verdes" = The oranges are unripe. "As laranjas SÃO verdes" = The oranges are green. Notice the verb changes in each sentence giving the sentence a different meaning.

This is great. We continue to learn more of the language and the culture. What we do see is a great sense of pride here in Portugal. The people at the restaurante who shared their tinto verde with us do so out of pride and the desire to connect.

Obrigado. That is correct and it is a relatively easy walk to the center of town. There seems to be possibly a city bus system, but have yet to locate any information about it. Enjoy your day.

Arroz de sarrabulho is a dish to eat in winter in cold and rainy days preferably at lunch and never at dinner.

I want some right now! The cuisine in Portugal is itself a lesson in history on a plate or in a bowl. Obrigado for your comment and support. Have fun today!

@@rasputindasilva858 friends of mine don't mind winter or summer and even lunch or dinner, they eat it all time. The only thing: there have to be many family and friends to eat with.

@@eusebio804 Sure, brits also eat beans, eggs and bacon at breakfast. Will you ? I wouldn't, so, advicing a foreigner to eat this dish in summer or at night... is not recommended. I am a "Limiano" born and raised in Ponte de Lima, I have a cottage I rent to several guests from different countries of Europe and America (not only USA) we also cook for them when requested and years of experience and feedback tells us to not cook this dish at night not at summer for them, of course if the guests are portuguese or spanish this doesn't apply.
