It might be time for the World of Outlaws to have a traveling safety/fire crew. Every major racing series in the US has this.

Everyone's biggest fear is fire. I've been to tracks where one guy will be standing in between one and two and another guy in between 3 and 4 with a half-ass pair of coveralls on and one fire bottle and think to myself it's just a matter of time. We see how professional Indycar's AMR safety team or the NHRA Safety Safari are. Granted, they are on a different level budget wise but the sanctioning bodies and the tracks need to step up on fire safety. Thank goodness Carson's horrible crash was at a track like Knoxville. The men and women that drive these cars and put people in the stands need to be protected. I hope this accident gets the right people's attention because it could've been so much worse.Set the national level aside and think about the weekend racer in his bomber or street stock at a local track and something happens. What then? Absolutely no disrespect to the men and women 1st responders at any of these tracks. Thank you for all you do! I'm talking about better equipment and proper training.

I have be involved in open wheel racing since the 70's. Race Director,Club President etc. Never has any driver or owner ever ask about fire trucks, ambulance service or even track insurance.. We had a fire extinguisher on a midget back in 1975 it wasn't mandatory. Indycar, Nascrap or F1 are no different than short track racing. Someone has to step up to the plate and take charge.

One of the worst wrecks I have witnessed in person. The safety crew was on track long before the cars even stopped. For Carson to have only the injuries he had, was nothing short of a miracle. Everyone, safety crew and fellow competitors did everything they could in the moment. I think most of us went home with a horrible pit in our stomach for Carson. Hopefully per Mr Jacobs, some changes come to help prevent this in the future. For those who mentioned they should have had something to cut the belts, maybe so, but there was no way any one could have got into that mangled mess of a chassis when it was fully engulfed. The only way was to get the fire out first. No easy task with that much fuel in the cell at that point in the race. Nor could anyone see anything with all the flame retardant that was in the air completely eliminating the crew's visibility. The key here will be what safety changes(plural) come from this.

I've seen people say the outlaws are too tight to spend the money on a travelling fire and safety crew.
The last 24 hours I've been thinking of how great it would be for a business to jump on board and throw some cash at it. How good would it be for a large corporate sponsor to have the outlaw safety crew wear their colours and be called the "walmart fire team" or even a smaller business that could afford to make it work. Split it somehow and have it called the "Southern Auto and Barry's Liquour Fire team" for example.
Would only take 4 people (one on smaller quad with a few extinguishers, and one in a mule style buggy full of powder each end) with which would be assisted by the current outlaw officials in their current roles and the track's supplied staff.
Small quad arrives at fire, rider jumps off with one extinguisher meanwhile other track staff or assisting racers can run out and grab a spare extinguisher off the quad.
As the bigger buggy is making its way to the scene ready to unleash its load.
Meanwhile the traveling outlaw fire team are making their way from the other end as well as the track's firetruck.
All sounds good in theory, i know.

Perhaps the World of Outlaws needs to take a page from NHRA, and have a fire fighting safety travel to all the races like the safety Safari crew does with NHRA does!
Yet I thought the Knoxville crew did a really good job under the circumstances, because they were on the track quick working on putting out the fire and working on removing the driver from the car.

The person closest to the scene of a car on fire is the driver in the car, therefore the car should have a fire system. However, if the system fails or the driver can't activate it because they are unconscious or injured in some other way, both tracks AND series need to have well trained personnel, and all the right equipment to put out a fire as quickly as possible.
Whatever you think about WOO getting a fire suppression system sponsor at the same time as making a rule mandating fire systems on cars, the fact is that fire systems have rightly been mandated. The argument against improving safety shouldn't be the price (there shouldn't be an argument against improving safety period), and someone shouldn't need to be seriously injured or die to justify safety equipment being mandated.

Piss on these 35-38 gallon tanks. Ever since Knoxville Nationals went to 50 laps with a stop in the middle, in 2010, it's been a better race. Nobody complains about it. Crew Chiefs get a second chance if they missed the set-up. Outlaws should learn from that format. Every feature should be 40 laps. 5-minute 1/2-way brake. Cars only have 20 gallon fuel cells. Cars are safer. *LOOK BETTER.* Drivers not as tired. A-Feature of Nationals hasn't had a serious crash, since they went with that format. The 1/2 way stop should be 1 lane on the extreme inside of the straight-a-way. It would become one of the highlights of the night. Let the fans watch them make adjustments, change gears, what not. Names of top crew chiefs would become as familiar as driver's name. Checkers become Chess. Driver's have less fatigue. Drivers can see (less likely to run out of tear-offs) Better product. Better sport. All-the-way-around.

The biggest problem there looked as though now one was in charge of the situation when drivers are waving for something to cut the driver out. Need guys with the right tools and know how to get to the driver quickly and safely then remove them. Those people need to get to the crash and take charge. I know easier said then done. There are a million things I could go on about. I think about safety stuff often. I have tons of ideas. Has anyone took a look at these systems and the Mickey Mouse clamps they use to mount these bottles to the car with? It's no wonder the bottle broke away from the car! The clamps are pathetic, at best.

Wake up call😵🤔. Spend the $$$ , the w00, should not drop another green flag until a travel safety team is trained and in place, to deal w/ methanol fires and knocked out drivers, simple. One life is worth way more than any expense needed for this. And if drivers would say , ain’t racing till it’s done, then it will get done quickly. There, I’ll crawl back under the bridge 🙄

Knoxville couldn’t even find a pair of belt cutters. Shameful.

It was *mostly* the WOO official (who was first on the scene) and Spencer Bayston who did the Macedo extraction. Both of them were in and out of the flames multiple times to pop belts and start getting him out.
Gio Scelzi was in there, too, but whoever was shooting the fire extinguisher sent burning fuel in him and the crew.
Brad Sweet looked like an animated chicken with it's head cut off.

There is no goddamned excuse for the lack of response. Hire real people with experience in fighting fire and rescue . Otherwise the drivers should just park there cars and give the organizers the finger. Entertaining the crowd isn’t worth the risk
